  1. nothing stops the power its just like anything, once you start doing good numbers, you can design something that will suit the purpose better. As an example back in the 90's every hi-po vl was pushing 400rwkw from a 68mm ford throttle body. As another example at 10inches of water a 50mm round hole can flow 250cfm, a 65mm hole can flow 450cfm. Your intercooler will be a resriction well before a plenum or throttle body will; a good 300x600 core flows around 300cfm!!! However this said once you are doing the numbers, it can be improved on, mainly the fact the standard item is so heavy on the middle cylinders in airflow.... I have not seen any strong evidence to this day that will suggest the standard plenum has a limit on how much power it will support....but as I mentioned you can always improve on things so if you have built the motor, got a top notch management system, big turbo and the right auxillary's then look at some plenum upgrades.. Probably a waste of time till then Cheers
  2. Have made 460rwkw on a stock headed rb25/30 combo, sure cams would net me maybe more or help the car be more pleasant and help mid range torque but they arent not a nessessity... Oil cooler and remote filter, you buy them in kits and fit them up will drop oil temps at least 20c even on a hot day, this help engine life through better oil control on the bearing surfaces as the oil is usually more in its proper working range...
  3. This is the way I look at it... Some stuff from CHina is rubbish, but some of it, while not the highest quality product in the world will get the job done. For example I have seen various intercoolers made in china... the $130 units are absolute crap they are very thin and dont do the job the $350 units are good and I have personally had good results with them they do the job and they may not be asas good as a PWR or Jap brand you have to ask yourself how serious am I really?? If im racing professionally etc then sure buy the best... Now as another part of my response there is no way these items will compete with the big three who are the brakes on F1 cars through to nearly every form of top level motorsports from rally to sprint cars to v8 supercars... these companies spend money on R and D, x-ray test, metalurgy tests for heat disapation verse weight verse longevety and it goes on... their machining and manufacture process is perfect and you pay for this you have a product that is race proven and you never have to ask yourself " whats the quality like" or "will they always work" casue you know the answer. And yes alcons and ap's are ridiculously light for the size of the caliper, this relates to the manufacture process and the material they use, it all top class stuff. Saying this I can't see the aftermarket China ones being any worse than alot of factory fitted stuff, luckily Nissans have Sumitomo's and they are quite a good construct to start with. I don't think its a case of buyer beware the stuff has 1 year warranty, I think you just need to ask yourself can I get my standard stuff to out perform most road tires??? The answer is yes!! and secondly if I do upgrade do I do other stuff to make it worthwhile.. Cheers
  4. PWR radiator, regualar coolant changes header tank Tape up any hot pipes, ie exhaust, intercooler pipes. ANd fuel system upgrades.... These are all mentioned but that would be my priority based on your location. I said PWR to cause you get what you pay for, PWR cores are lifetime warranty and are substantially heavier and higher grade alloy than competitors offerings this will help with heat soak!!! Cheers
  5. no warranty on import spare parts as per Nissans national headquarters fax to me after I asked about the pump, as the car wasnt service or the part wasnt installed buy qualified nissan mechs there is no warranty on nearly all spare parts regardless of whether its a mechanical part or not!!
  6. I posted in the original thread but under the assumption it was exactly as funky said a socially acceptable thread much the same as a ralph or FHM mag. People did take it to far and the thread degenerated further towards smut with people seeing how far they could go... While I agree we are grown ups and should regulate our own actions and what we open or click on but the topic was a little misleading and even went off topic from the original purpose.... at the end of the day its the moderators jobs to do whats in the best in the interest of the group and this is the best solution as it's a car forum; and as most of us know there is plenty of porn on the rest of the internet to keep SAU clean of it. Cheers
  7. Between AP, Alcon and brembo, there is bugger all difference ask any supercar driver, they are running one of those three brands and they all pull up the same and they dont run control brake rotors or anything yet, but it will be in place shortly.... Just decide what you like in terms of the big three. I like Alcon the best but thats because I like dealing with PWR who are the importers for alcon... I havent heard of these other brakes might look into it for my street cars, Cheers Daniel
  8. I have had 2 r33 N1 pumps fail and both are street cars, one cracked the gear after only 300km and on run in!!! The other cracked after about 10,000 kms both were brnad new pumps and both were rb30's.... Can anyone here do metalurgy tests to test if the gear drive material is the same as standard pumps as I believe they are a harder steel but a more brittle one thus prone to cracking.... In any case these dont seem like isolated incidences.
  9. Fair enough there cant really ask to swing that vote ahaha Heard a rumor its going big block any truth???
  10. Checked them out they all have really nice paint etc and the price reflects that they are a little out of my price range considering I am going to get them wrinkle finished!! Thanks though Nick, Any others
  11. All PMs replied to. Everyone has timing covers but no one has cam covers??? Cheers all
  12. Just a reminder to all you guys that may have bought this months issue, voting closes this Friday so get in those spare slips, and again thanks to all the positive comments and all your help with the comp... fingers crossed!!! Cheers, Daniel
  13. Wanted to buy a set of cam covers for the rb26 paint condition etc not important as long as they aren't dented I am interested reply here or PM
  14. had good results with them myself!!! Cars have made 450rwkw and are still lasting!!! But they are pretty budget as compared to others I guess it comes down to how much you want to spend!!
  15. Jambo was an awesome event. As luck would have it our transporter was parked next to Reece's, and the PWR tent backed onto the Kiwi boys tent. When we where packing up on Sun evening got to have a really good chat with Reece his old man and his head tuner and mech. I tell you those guys are clued in and have some serious plans, there limiting factor is NZ tracks so expect to see the car back here very soon..... I will write a post later with a few of the topics that were discussed.... Congrats to the boys on a massive effort.
  16. HAd good experience with ppg nick, i have one for sale actually its done around 300 kays, its only dog engagement on 1-3 with 4 and 5 being ppg's semi helicals so still alot stronger than standard. Had bad experience with OS but I think that was just a one off as alot of others have had success.... And the big dog holinger, well once you have driven a car with a holinger its hard to go back but then again the price brings you back to reality.... Cheers
  17. a rb26 head with some mods will only just be able to flow 500hp in na form
  18. I have been fortunate to have meet PB on many occassions, with my old man usually seeing him personally at least once or twice a year since we became involved with him through a mutual sponsorship deal back in the early 90's. He is a true gentleman of the sport, and real character with a deap love and appreciation of where he got to on the back of his fans and other people behind the scenes. You will be truely missed Peter Brock. RIP
  19. Mate search this topic and you will find a goldmine, make sure you remove the search 30 days and newer option and you will find a heap of responses to this exact question, there was a thread on it only recently... Search is your friend!!!
  20. Thanks guys, Its so refreshing to see that skyline drivers and enthusiasts are not so tunnel visioned as other car enthusiasts, and can appreicate any car that is done well. Thanks for all the support will keep you guys posted and regualarly bump this thread to remind you guys when next issue comes out. In no way do I expect anyone to buy the mag just thought I would make it known in case someone you know buys it or you buy it and didnt know about the comp... Really appreciate the support and the kind words... Daniel
  21. Thanks guys really appreciate the effort, we have some really stiff competition, especailly considering some of the other cars fit the Sm mould alot better than the Datto. Thanks again guys.
  22. You do have a choice if you are only looking for a low 10 or 9. Autronic is a great ECU but will require wiring in buy a clue auto elec to make the system work properly as it should, that with CDI will be 10 times better than a microtech. Not baggin microtech they have there place have used them heaps over the last 10 years but it wont perfrom as you want. Now for your build.... lets say rev limit 8k, power at 430-450rwkw...is this GTR or RWD? Prep the block as per a high hp rebuild, grout fill half way if this car will see not alot of street driving, ie only a quick thurs night cruise and some runs close to home... grout fill the high pressure feed for the turbo. Also stud the main girdle and also the head run studs. Put the collar on the crank, and prep crank as per usuall get it crack tested, dont cross drill it or anything special re do all bearing surfaces. Rods, Argo, Pauter or Crower will perform the best and are pretty good in price, as for pistons get CP's or Arias and get them ceramic coated. Oil pump run a JUN one at a miniumum, you will need to tee into the high pressure out and this is where your new turbo feed comes from, also make sure you run Tomie oil restrictors in the block. Standard rb26 water pump will be fine. Dont run anymore than 20thou over on bores. and run around 9.0 or 8.5:1 comp no less. you will also need a ATI balancer. As for the head now you arent reving it crazy just get some spec 2 cams ie 272, 10.5mm lift and the springs to suit and get the valve guides re-done as these are always flogged out, cam gears and that will be about all you need. If you want you spend the extra and get oversized valves and a port job but its not essential. Now are you running standard plenum etc??? What gearbox? What suspension? What diff(s). Tyre/wheels combo?? Anyway that build will cost you around 15k and will net you a low 10 and a 9 if the rest of the car is set up to match. Hope this helps. Daniel
  23. I didnt say it but maybe when flicking at the servo just remove the voting slip, ahahah saves $8 if your not into that mag, but I didnt say that! ahaha Thanks guys
