hey all,
Did a search but nothing really matched whats happening with my car
I got the car(89 R32 GTR) just last week and it was making a light 'lifter/tapping' type noise around 2000rpm+ but sounded like it went away 4500rpm+, and seemingly low oil pressure, so I changed the oil and filter ( oil was rather dirty but nothing to cry about ). After changing the oil, and once the oil was warm the oil pressure seemed to be worse and the noise was even louder! I put 100% sinthetic 10W30 in it...
I let it sit over night and tested it out in the morning from a cold start and I was shocked to find the noise wasnt there anymore...... the water temp was warm so I checked the timing and set it at 20btdc (was off a little @ about 30btdc) the noise was totally gone and the oil pressure was showing the right values... until i noticed the oil temp gauge starting showing 70 the noise came back and the oil pressure was back down again and not rising with the revs as it should of been.
The noise seems to be coming from the upper head section, so im thinking the oil pump is not suppling the head with sufficiant oil pressure once the oil is warm, thus starving the cams/buckets etc of oil??
Reading all the other threads and topics on here of all the early Rb26's oil pump problems, wondering if these are the symptoms of a failing oil pump?
if it is the oil pump.. I was going to get a 33/34 oil pump with the JUN coller, I cant really tell from the manual but would I have to pull the crank out to fit the coller? or does it just 'slip' on?
Thanks for any info
