Whining Gearbox/flywheel

Well $1000 later my problem is still around.. 1) Thrust bearing was screwed.. 2) Replaced Clutch - Thrust Bearing with a PBR RPM kit.. 3) While getting fixed - a delivery ute backed into the front of my car.. now getting the bonnet redone - f**king son of a.. 4) re greased my diff up - I doubt it's that.. 5) I still think either a) the input shaft bearing is gone - or b) tailshaft bearing - i'm still going with a.. Anyways.. gonna see how it goes for 500k's.. see if the diff loosens up/quietens down.. anyways - thought i'd provide an update for people.. -
Running Semi-synthetic Oil In Gearbox..
Links replied to Links's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Huh - how the hell does that work - that was 4 comments about nothing on that link.. I'll take peoples word on SAU before I decide not to use it.. From what I can tell everyone recommends it and haven't had any issues.. And I think that could be referring to a one off store selling Nulon E10 for $0.99.. Nulon E10 Nulon Worn Engine Treatment is especially formulated for use in all four-stroke petrol, *diesel, rotary and LP gas engines that display definite wear characteristics such as fuming, bearing or valve train noise, piston slap, piston wrist pin noise and poor performance due to general mechanical wear. ^^ RE: Engine Treatment.. vs. My Topic - Gearbox Oils.. Nulon G70 Nulon Manual Gearbox and Diff Treatment with PTFE offers maximum lubrication and anti-wear protection to the gear and bearing surfaces of all types of gears (helical, spur and worm drive). Nulon G70 combines a balanced blend of Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) with other extreme pressure and anti-corrosion compounds. Nulon G70 is suitable for use with all synchromesh rings and limited slip differentials -
I'm guessing you want a wing like thus - There is a tiny brake light that runs along the top lip of the boot.. part of the rear unit/wing contruction..

Is it popping as you accelerate or once your backing off?..

R32 Gts-4 Gtr Gearbox Whiring Noise
Links replied to Ruffels's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
On another note - if your looking at pulling the box down you might want to look at changing your clutch.. -
R32 Gts-4 Gtr Gearbox Whiring Noise
Links replied to Ruffels's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Sounds similar to what happened to mine.. Could either be a) thrust bearing or b) input shaft bearing.. reason you hear it when in neutral is the input shaft is spinning.. push the clutch in goes away as the input shaft slows down and the bearing stops spinning.. best bet - take it to a mechanic - doesn't have to be skyline specific.. just a normal work shop or maybe a gearbox one.. hopefully nothing too major.. -
Running Semi-synthetic Oil In Gearbox..
Links replied to Links's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Cheers Merlin.. Going to run some pennzoil + a tube of nulon to hopefully make it a bit nicer to smooth.. Have to wait and see.. Just Jap lost the order for my clutch kit.. so have to wait till monday now.. -
Skyline Gearbox On S15 Help
Links replied to jspec racing's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Was going to mention the Just Jap ones - SII R33 stock gearbox.. I'd say a late 98 R33 SII gearbox could be the same as the GTT manual gearbox.. but either way - any SII one should be good enough for you.. -
I think it's very expensive.. almost worth getting a 3,200 brand new box.. and reco'ing and selling off your old one.. When reco'ing the box however - I doubt your gonna be replacing too many gears would you unless you've absolutely fcuked it..? out of interest.. what exactly happened to it btw - what was he doing..

Whining Gearbox/flywheel
Links replied to Links's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
For anyone interested.. Got my gearbox pulled down today.. Looks like the thrust bearing has infact gone.. grease everywhere in the housing that shouldn't be there.. Not sure why this occured.. maybe some water splashed into it.. Whining appears to have been caused by the lip of the bearing resting on the pressure plate "fingers" and causing it to spin while I accelerate.. Once apply pressure (pushing the clutch in) it seems to go away.. Anyways - getting it all put back together tomorrow.. hopefully everything will be a-ok.. Cheers Links -
Getting my gearbox bearing replaced this week and mechanic is using semi-synthetic pennzoil gearbox oil in it.. I have run this for 5,000kms since the last service (and before it broke).. what was in there before I have no idea.. What I want to know - is it ok to run semi-synthetic? Would it be better to get something like redline shockproof lightweight (not sure but guessing it's full synth).. I'm pretty sure it'll be fine - but wondering what peoples thoughts are.. Cheers Links

R34 - 1st/2nd Gears; Lower Boost Than Other Gears?
Links replied to SS8_Gohan's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
It's pretty hard to make full boost in 1st (stock).. but 2nd you should be able to.. try going up a hill and seeing what you get.. also - get an aftermarket boost gauge.. maybe your gauge is playing silly buggers? -
Input Shaft/thrust Bearing Noise.....
Links replied to lows_13's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Thrust bearing can be heard when you depress the clutch as that's when it is engaged.. -
Input Shaft/thrust Bearing Noise.....
Links replied to lows_13's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Sounds like the identical issue I have.. mines probably the input shaft bearing.. Mine is currently whining quite loudly in all gears and i'm getting the gearbox pulled down this tues.. If it's just a slight bearing sound - don't worry about it at the moment - when it starts whining than look at getting it replaced.. costs about $700 to replace it ($70 part.. rest labour) unless you can do it yourself.. also worth doing your clutch at the same time.. -
Problem with buying a second hand gearbox.. is you don't know what condition it's in.. I'd rather get mine reconditioned..
-
I think one of the main reasons is because alot of track and drift people are using them.. R33 gearboxes are viewed as quite strong and there for people like to use them..

I have been in contact with Westfield Mall Management this morning and they are accepting no responsibility. I am looking into this further as I type. That's such crap.. I don't understand why they have security if they don't do anything or take any responsibility for peoples cars while they are parked in their carparks.. They obviously don't give much of a crap do they.. guess it happens a fair bit there..
-
Out of interest - if you gave a statement and everything.. posted at 9:30pm.. what time did it happen.. during the arvo i'm guessing - how could no one see this happening? or Hear it for that matter.. shattering glass is pretty loud.. and those carparks (if anything like chatty) are pretty bloody busy?..
-
edit: prob not appropriate for on here.. everyone seems to be getting a little heated in this.. in the end it's better to let the police sort it out (or not, which I doubt they will).. as soon as people take it into their own hands, your held accountable, can be charged for assault so on and so forth.. anyways - have you heard anything back from the police??.. Are you able to get video footage, or do they only hand it over to the police?
-
bit of gaffa.. she'll be good as new..
-
Sorry to hear about it stan.. in my eyes your lucky that they weren't professionals.. what would you rather - a broken window.. or your whole car gone being stripped.. just a reminder to people.. keep the interior of your car clean, pull off the stereo faceplate, put it in the glove box.. hopefully this will stop giving people a reason for doing this shit.. very f**ked up.. hope you get all the replacement parts ok..

If the driver was older than the youngest driver on the insurance alot of the time they are covered.. (well just cars they are).. As for mods - most insurance companies say "we have no problem listing mods, however it is up to the insuree to ensure that the mods are LEGAL according to their state".. it's not the responsibility of the insurance company to go around checking if what you have got is legal when you insre with them.. they will however when you put a claim in.. in other words.. list away, but if we find that they were a) illegal and b) possibly contributed to the crash than they can cancel the policy.. good luck
