Don't forget there is also the 98 SII R33.. read somewhere that the gearbox is slightly different.. not 100% sure on that..

Huge Garage Clean Out

Do you have the passengers side seatbelt clasp/catch - the thing the seat belt clips into near the centre console.. -
I'm probably more keen to rebuild the box due to it being a 98 and I doubt i'll get a replacement box that is the same age.. Read somewhere the later gearboxes have a different sychro design or something along that line that makes the later ones more "robust" than earlier ones (not 100% on that).. either way - it's still changing smooth, drives fine, doesn't crunch.. so from the sounds of it the gears sound ok and the synchros are a-ok as well.. - would rather pay to get the bearings replaced.. Cheers though duncan, any recommendations, or just take it to a gearbox place..

For anyone wondering here is the issue i'm having: http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/in...howtopic=109101 I'm sure this has to have happened to someone before.. and i'm sure you have got a gearbox rebuilt @ some stage..

Hey Guys, Looks like one of the bearings in my gearbox has probably gone and it's now whining.. I'm probably looking at getting it rebuilt/bearing replaced and do the clutch at the same time.. Was talking to some of you @ the Dyno Day regarding it.. Now I was wondering if anyone has a place they would recommend I go to and get them to take a look at it.. I'm based in north sydney, so the north shore would be nice, however I think hourly rates are a bit over what I really want to be paying.. Any help would be great.. I'm probably looking at going to a gearbox specialist, I dont think I have to go to a jap car specialist for this.. Cheers

Whining Gearbox/flywheel
Links replied to Links's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Cheers mate.. that looks like a fair bit of work to replace that one as it's on the main shaft and dead center in the middle of the gearbox, i'm guessing they have to take almost everything off to get to it.. Next question - does anyone have someone in sydney they recommend??? Well I was doing 2nd gear skid pan work for a fair bit, which would a) generate alot of heat and b) put quite a bit of force on it, if it was letting go already that would be enough i'd say.. i'm guessing I need to get it check sooner rather than later.. -
you the guy with the white shirt and camera? LOL!!! any vids of my car?!? sorry to dissapoint.. but wasn't me mona.. I was hiding away.. nah had a singlet on.. not sure who else was there with a camera.. top secret anyone.. nice turn out of cars..

Just had a look at Stan's dyno graph - from the SATANIC. Very surprising to see that UAS backed off the run before it even ended... meant that peak power wasn't even reached??? The dyno graph just went vertically downwards at the end, power curve hadn't even started to dip yet. Anyone else see this on their graphs or was it just Stan's? If I recall his A/F ratios were running a little to lean to push it too much farther.. was a good run.. could have held on a little longer, got a video of it here.. I think the main issue with power was his boost dropping off 1psi.. anyways.. good day.. stuck round for a bit.. than left.. stupid whining gearbox.. shits me to tears now sounds like i'm running a dogbox or something..

Whining Gearbox/flywheel
Links replied to Links's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Sorry.. thought the input shaft and main shaft bearing were the same.. I think kwazza yours sounds like the same issue as mine.. where it whines in all the gears bar 4th.. can someone please explain to me what the whine exactly is? also - how many bearings are there.. a thrust bearing near the cluth.. an input shafter bearing located ?? a main shaft bearing located i'm guessing on the main drive shaft that the 4th gear is directly fed.. also - kwazza how hard is it to change the main shaft bearing? what breaks in it to cause the whine? ball bearing come out?? -
Whining Gearbox/flywheel

I'm getting the oil done on tues.. i'll get some "thickener" put through it or whatever the additive is they use.. it's pretty damn loud.. .. but I might just need to save my pennies and get it done at a later stage.. would it be better to take it to a "gearbox specialist" to find out how much and if they can isolate the issue further.. cheers Jim though.. i'll take it on board and keep people updated on how it goes.. -
Whining Gearbox/flywheel

Yeah pretty much doesn't make much noise.. nothing compared to the others.. spoke to some of the guys today at the Dyno day.. seem to have ruled out thrust bearing, and probably the main bearing.. What does it take to fix this? do I need to have the box reconditioned, or can they pull the gearbox down and replace that one bearing??? Thanks heaps for the reply.. i'm a bit worried, as it looks like i'll be paying around $1000 to get it all fixed.. -
Hey everyone. Just spent the day doing Stage 2 advanced driving course with Ian Luff.. After going on the skidpan and doing some 2nd gear drift/skidpan driving my car suddenly developed a whine in 1/2/3 and prob 5 gear under load.. reving it in neutral causes it to "quietly" whine.. however in 1st and 2nd as soon as you put load on it, the gearbox sounds like i'm running a dog box, very loud and quite noticable.. Some possibilities that people suggested.. "gearbox oil has been cooked".. "issue with the thrust bearing??".. maybe something with the flywheel - this has arrisen from it being heard when reving with the clutch out.. car doesnt' do it on deceleration, or when i'm maintaining my speed, tends to be only when the gearbox is under load.. I'm going to take it to my mechanic tomorrow - but what do people suggest, maybe get the gearbox oil changed with some redline - ASAP? Cheers links

Out of interest.. where is the best place to get a Kakimoto from?.. I'm not quite looking at buying yet.. but further down the line it's definately something I wouldn't mind getting..

Time for NA Power, the wait is over.....
Links replied to NA_R33's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Would love to see a vid of this thing on the dyno.. Awesome work mate, looks fantastic and from the sounds of it goes well.. definately unique car that's for sure.. -
doesn't that cause issues with your diff?
-
woooh.. seems a bit desperate.. anyways.. I guess you'll do what you have to do.. why not wait 3 years. the R33's will be cheaper.. and even get a R34..
-
i'm on an advanced driving course on fri so won't be able to make it.. next time

There is no reason.. guess it's so that you don't run out of fuel when you are booting the crap out of it learning the timing again..

I'll be out there.. there is someone else 2.. but not sure "andrew".. -
thought they said you weren't able to get 2 bye's??.. anyways.. just nit picking.. what'd they have on after the drift - I headed home..
-
They had 3 cars there on the day.. only 2 of them ran the drags.. other one ran into the wall *snicker*.. anyways.. I think in the end.. as buster said in the other thread we had it's street racing.. that's the way it goes, I doubt the skyline would have beat the torana.. maybe off a standing start.. but it was a good race anyways.. as for buster beating autostyle.. hell yeah.. we were gunning for you.. That you taking all the photos down there adrian..
-
I think you can pull the Airflow meter cable out.. car won't start as it needs it working.. but double check, someone else should know..
-
Yeah we were weighing it up as being a write off unless they can magically resurrect the whole boot of the car.. could have been som chassis twist/damage in it as well..
-
wooops.. when did that happen.. was hoping the forza evo 9 was gonna get in on the street drags.. don't worry ben - he was still out today drifting hard.. if it was the 180sx your talkin about.. had the silver rear lights.. http://www.autostyle.com.au/cars_engine.asp search on nissan, bottom car
