  1. 16mm is the standard core thickness. yes they are thin, but adequate for normal conditions and driving. there's something else wrong with your cooling system, mine was fine with the 16mm core until it got blocked.
  2. For an enthusiast, go the RO. It's hard to damage your paint, it will take a bit longer then rotary polisher but still many times faster than elbow grease. a straight rotary gets quick results.. right down to the undercoat if you're not careful. not worth the risk for casual use - if you polish cars every day they're a must but you HAVE to know how to use them correctly or you will do damage.
  3. Paid and faxed entry form Woot, TEXI!
  4. it's because you were granny shifting on the dyno, not double clutching like you should.
  5. Agree 100% especially with the bolded part. Sorry, you're ignorant. Duncan's spot on as usual.
  6. A realisation that many people on here are yet to come to (eg "summernats targeting modified cars" thread in general). Cops aren't there to be dream boats to modified car owners. They're there to enforce the road rules WHICH YOU SHOULD KNOW before you start modifying cars. While it's true that if you really wanted to you can find a defect on almost any car, you have to give the police a reason to do so. #1 reason? Driving like a dickhead. #2 reason? Failing the attitude test when they pull you over.
  7. Yes use a consult cable ASAP. Assuming the stock gauge is correct, any movement upwards means your temp must be at least 110C and you're about to cook your motor. I've had my temp (reported by consult) as high as 104C and the gauge still said halfway.
  8. Um, put the wheel on the car, lower it until the tyre is touching the ground and then tighten away? As you tighten the wheel nuts it will pull the stud through.
  9. The point is that driving a poorly modified car from Sydney to Canberra can be dangerous. So if police see said examples they are welcome to defect them. Yes, AT the nats, tear it up on the burnout pad go crazy drink alcohol and leer at women. Whatever. What you do at the nats is irrelevant, what you are driving to get there is. Like I said in my post, they won't bend you over if you don't give them a reason to. Not repeating myself again, peace out.
  10. Petrol ratio with air needs to be in a fairly narrow range of values in order to ignite. If you have a 100% fuel / fuel vapour situation eg a sealed tank there will be no kaboom.. not that I'd risk it deliberately but petrol won't ignite without oxygen. That said, I also wouldn't experiment with shorting wires under petrol in your garage. Darwin award, anyone? Tank open situation on the other hand you are mixing air and fuel vapour, sparks are bad news.
  11. The water temp sensor bung in the bottom of the radiator isn't the best fitting, using a normal o-ring gasket mine still leaked so I had to use gasket maker to get a seal. Also, on R33 the top tank doesn't have a cutout (it's too high on the passenger side) so if you are running standard airbox the intake duct won't fit properly. Not an issue if you're using a pod filter I guess. They're cheap radiators but they do the job. Fenix make radiators with the correct relief on the top side if you have an R33. Haven't looked at the R34 model.
  12. Not really a new concept, Saab did this in 2000 and unveiled a motor that had a tilting head which varies the CR. Haven't heard anything since then. The geared conrod method is different, Saab probably patented the tilting head. Wonder how the intrinsic strength of both solutions stacks up...
  13. Soo.. if your car is lawful, engineered and doesn't attract attention... what do you have to worry about? The fact you're going to an off-street event is TOTALLY irrelevant if your car has been illegally modified. If you're an entrant and your mods aren't legal there are things called car trailers. If you're a punter driving down then your car should be legal. Yeah the rules are restrictive but you should know what they are, if you go outside them you're taking a calculated risk and accept that. You won't get defected for bullshit items unless you fail the attitude test. I've always been polite and courteous to cops and they barely even look at the car. I'm sure a real good look would find something but don't give them a reason to, and they won't! I've also been down to the nats a few times, kept my head down and behaved myself and didn't even get looked at. If you drive down all "look at me" with chrome wheels and a fart cannon exhaust what the f..k do you expect to happen?
  14. no BS, and no freeway driving. I was amazed, as ~450km was my previous best. My best on the freeway is 9.3L/100km, sitting on the speed limit. Car just has a JJR bellmouth dump, fujitsubo exhaust (very quiet, full size centre muffler but flows well) and a 3" high flow catco metal cat. oh an r34 SMIC. Running 10psi boost.
  15. Double points is so frustrating, I end up doing 522km to a tank in suburban driving (57L, 10.9L/100km). How am I supposed to complain about poor fuel consumption when I can't even hit boost for fear of losing my licence?
  16. hahaha that vid is awesome. that is a silly question. fatz runs on beer!
  17. I think you missed my tongue in cheek - 3.87 seconds.... data entry error
  18. Mine occasionally does this, stock intake system. Everything's fine (spark plugs, ecu etc). Usually it happens when I am giving some steering input as well, I think the combination of dropping revs PLUS an emptying vacuum assist system is a bit quick for the ECU to keep up. For me it only happens when I come to a complete stop, the ECU maintains a higher idle point when the wheels are turning and only drops down to its base idle when you come to a complete stop.
  19. Awesome. I'd just like to point out that I had the fastest time in Morning Course 1 Slippery Slide (first attachment) by some margin - car 69 run 2: 3.87 seconds. my g/f always told me I was fast now I have proof
  20. sell the auto car, buy a manual car. anything else is just brain dead given you know nothing about car mechanics. money aside, you have no idea whether the job has been done properly or shonky and you could be ripped off. it's just not worth it.
  21. Love this pic with the front spinning and rear locked because looking where you're going is for beginners! lol
  22. Awesome day guys, to the organisers and volunteers you are legends! Every Texi I go to I leave wondering how I managed to have SO MUCH FUN. Great car number - thanks Ben! 23. That really sucks dude. I had significant problems with a particular workshop and after the 2nd return visit I said to myself you know what, these guys are obviously talentless f**kwits so if you keep taking your car back it will probably come back worse each time. Unfortunately you've just proven that statement for me.
  24. lol at least the entry form won't be missed
