  1. thanks for the offer Cass, I'll see how the chips fall tomorrow. In my book if you cause damage to someone's property you should A) own up to it and B) make it better but since A isn't happening I don't think B will be an easy task..
  2. Hi Terry, Thanks for the advice, I certainly plan to speak with my insurance company (Corinne and Chubbs are both quite familiar with the one I use) but I'll wait until later tomorrow when I have more information about the situation. The physical damage sucks but it's easily fixed. What really gets to me is the attitude of the person who did it - the lack of respect for other peoples' property and the brazen nature of it is just staggering. Cheers Geoff edit - lol, touche
  3. I should point out that the premise someone is too stupid to drive a manual doesn't mean that everyone who drives an automatic is stupid.. the rest of you are just lazy
  4. hahahahaha she wouldn't understand.. "a gearbox? but I drive an automatic" (I assume, she's obviously short a few brain cells)
  5. I'm out guys.. sorry for the late notice see here for details: http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/topic/376043-bayview-vandal/ keep comments in that thread rather than hijacking this one, enjoy the epic awesome skids everyone Geoff
  6. I parked my car in Bayview today to go out and do a spot of fishing, about 1.5 hours later I get a call from my brother in law saying both of my wing mirrors have been broken off their mounts and both of my antennas (AM/FM radio and a two way radio antenna) have been bent over and destroyed. What's fortunate is my brother in law saw the woman break my drivers side mirror, and then go into her house (my car was on the public space outside her house). We've since worked out between us that she feels that spot is "hers" - the street is notoriously difficult to find parking spots on, although today all afternoon there was HEAPS available. She must have already been in a foul mood to vandalise a car that's never parked there before. Unfortunately, the police spoke to her and she denies everything. They want to fingerprint the car tomorrow to see if they can lift any prints off the mirrors which unfortunately means I'm going to miss the September Texi. She has even volunteered to be fingerprinted so I'm sure she pulled her sleeves over her hands when doing the damage, and most likely I'll be out of pocket and miss a motorkhana day. However, that kind of vindictive damage is not something I can let pass so I want to see her be held accountable for it and letting the police do their fingerprinting is the best way at this stage to achieve that. So as far as the car damage goes shit happens, 2 mirrors and 2 antennas can be replaced. What has me angry is her attitude to the whole thing, she was caught in the act and now she's denying everything. The police have already said if they can't get prints off it then they won't have enough evidence to proceed further. The only comfort at this stage is that to do that at the drop of a hat she must be a petty, unhappy person in life and aside from this event I have had one of the best fortnights in recent memory so there's certainly a lot else in life to be thankful for.
  7. Replace both tie rod ends and the radius rod bushes. If one tie rod has gone then the other is about to, and once the boot breaks they will fill up with dirt, wear themselves out and start rattling around. Replacing just the rubber boot is cheap ass behaviour, excel driver mentality The oil weeping down the exhaust side of the motor isn't excessive, especially if you aren't getting any drips on the ground. Degrease it, and then look after a day or two to see where it's coming from. Then you can fix it for good.
  8. Do it man, that way the rest of us know you're a twat before you get too close.
  9. not an undercover, just a f**kwit. the chevrolet badge on a holden gives it away.
  10. you can never have too many gauges!
  11. Well.. a proper crimp is gas-tight and mechanically sound. If you have properly crimped the terminal there's no reason to solder at all, but if you've done 90% of the job then a bit of added strength from the solder might help. Soldering certainly doesn't hurt and I've soldered after crimping myself because the gold connectors Jaycar sells for 4G/8G cable need all the mechanical help they can get. They're very soft. Better off using some stronger ones from Supercheap/Whitworths to begin with but I was lazy
  12. I'm after a power antenna assembly and a centre console lid (well, really just the spring bracket that stops it from falling down on its own)
  13. must be school holidays.. i wondered why there was less traffic on the road.
  14. i've had a car with a minispool but it suited the character of the car ("i'm loud and i go sideways and i scare old ladies and parking valets with my clunking"). R33 is a refined but sporty daily so I don't want it to feel like the arse end is falling out when i go around a corner. besides, KAAZ only make a 2 way diff. a diff that locks under braking = understeer. i'm set on a 1.5 way so the kaaz not for me, even though it is cheap! I guess it's a GT LSD Pro, and suck it up about the ramp angle (more ramp means more skids!)
  15. Nismo Pro TT diff is now discontinued.. I had my heart set on that one just didn't have the $$. Now I'll have to find another alternative in a streetable 1.5 way diff (good luck). Nismo GT LSD Pro 1.5 way -> 55 degree ramp angle, will be more aggressive than the TT's 45 degree. Nismo GT LSD Pro Carbon 2 way -> 2 way diff, not so good for the street by all accounts. Also double the price ~AU$2000 since it's just been released. Cusco RS 1.5 way - ??? (some people seem to like em, others say they're harsh?)
  16. engines are in fact air pumps, the more air you flow through a motor the more power you are making. volume counts, not boost level. you can boost up on a restrictive exhaust but you won't make much more power, diminishing returns set in because backpressure in the exhaust starts to balance the boost you're feeding in.
  17. Jaycar also sell ready-made ground straps which will be a LOT less fiddling around than 4G/8G, and cheaper by the time you add up connectors etc. http://www.jaycar.com.au/productView.asp?ID=WE3102&keywords=we31&form=KEYWORD WE-3102: 40 Amp 250mm length with 36 x 26 strands @ 0.15 (Dia.)mm WE-3104: 100 Amp 250mm length with 48 x 20 strands @ 0.15 (Dia.)mm I'd be surprised if you couldn't get similar from an auto store. Side note, solder is NOT the best way of making these connections. Solder's a poor conductor, and better reserved for building circuit boards. If you're going to go the 4G/8G route, crimp your connections. You can solder afterwards (NOT before!!) if you want but crimping provides a much stronger join mechanically, and lower resistance electrically.
  18. 6L atmo? even that is waaaay too quick. 4 cylinder sounds crap, i'm suer v6 wouldn't be that good either. inline 6 is a possibility but for packaging reasons nobody uses them in production cars any more. v8 sounds crap especially with this blown diffuser nonsense. I'm a fan of smaller capacity V10 or V12, NA. Keep the cylinder count high, no RPM limit, and reduce capacity as required to keep power within sensible limits. Besides that I say "anything goes" with the engine as long as they still sound meaty and not tinny like a motorbike. Not really a fan of turbo, it kills the exhaust sound. V12s were before my time but the V10s sounded magnificent. Get rid of this reliability stuff, engines and gearboxes lasting half a season etc. The random blowups used to make things interesting. Aero needs to be simplified still further, to make it easier for cars to follow closely. That and mechanical grip needs to be improved. I think DRS has too many rules, and is a bit artificial. I have no problem with KERS because drivers are free to use it at any point in the lap. The main thing for me is the sound. In between F1 practice sessions when the two seater V10 comes out my jaw drops and I go what... is... THAT....
  19. Impressive... great work guys, given the uncertain nature of even finding 98RON around sometimes (and E85 is much worse!), having flex fuel capability is a massive plus for anyone going down the E85 route.
  20. No but I'll go first. I had an awesome time
  21. as Torques says it's no substitute for a front mount but given the price you'd be mad not to stick one on your stock R33. For a street application I don't think it's a waste of time and money at all.
  22. that sucks, was an awesome track. interesting tilt shift effect in the second vid and yay i spy me (1m 24s) were you filming later in the day when I was smoking it up Eric?
  23. massive thanks to all the SAU volunteers for running an awesome day despite the weather. exceptionally well organised, BBQ hit the spot, massive skids.. when's the next one? (rhetorical question, i know when it is... not soon enough!!)
