Why Aren't We All Swapping To Superchargers?
Kinks replied to No Crust Racing's topic in General Automotive Discussion
^^ that is awesome -
the focus needs to be more on engine power and mechanical grip, not aero. aero kills overtaking, engine power and mechanical grip promote it.

To be blunt, every time you buy a car with mods you inherit every shortcut the previous owner has ever taken. When I bought a car I looked for the cleanest, most unmolested example I could find and it has been a joy to own. The only mistake I have ever made, and the only thing that has EVER caused me grief with the car, is giving it to a workshop for the 100k service based on a recommendation from a friend of a friend. Said guy was clearly a f-wit, and the mechanics were flat out driving a thumb up their arse. They replaced my cam seals as part of the service which later caused a nice oil leak, they chipped my harmonic balancer, they screwed down the washer reservoir over an alarm cable which gradually wore through until it shorted, and they mixed coolant types which clogged the radiator. Now that I've fixed all those problems (including new balancer NOT CHEAP + timing belt and a new radiator) I have a good car again. This is true, they are very thorough but this is a good thing. Big ticket items like rust and shoddy accident repair are an instant dismissal, but minor things like my car had "noisy thrust bearing in clutch" at 33k and the car has now done 117k and the clutch is fine, and the noise is no worse because almost every R33 makes that noise. The trick is deciding what is important and what isn't. Seriously, take a mate along who knows cars and is mechanically minded. Buy him a beer afterwards and when you see a car you both like THEN get an inspection. Don't bother importing.

Rear Camber Kit For The Lower Arms
Kinks replied to Turbz RB-25's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
^^ yes it might - it wouldn't move as much as doing the top arms but your pivot point is the UCA joint at the top of the hub so the top will still move outwards. the only way to narrow your overall track would be to fit LCA, UCA and traction rod adjustable arms but you would be up for a VERY expensive alignment and you would need to take it to someone specialised, your general tyre fitters won't know how to set the traction rods to minimise bump steer (dynamic toe). Even then I'm not sure if your driveshafts would have enough clearance to effectively allow them to be pushed further into the hub. probably impossible and definitely a fiendishly expensive exercise. getting the guards pulled or living with 2 degrees is going to be much easier, I suspect. you could always *gasp* raise the car a bit to cure your camber issues. -
Eric that pic is awesome!! well worth printing and framing Thanks Joel and Phil (Edit - and Kory on the previous page!!) I have some great skids pics - well at least i'm happy for a first attempt! thanks guys!!

For a 6 cylinder engine the e420 is not ideal because it only does sequential injection and ignition for 4 cylinders. you have to run 6 cylinders with waste spark and semi sequential injection (which means that 2 or 3 of your cylinders will get fuel when the intake valve is CLOSED, this is inefficient). I would never go an ECU that didn't have at least 6 ignition and 6 injector drivers on an RB. PFC all the way. Looked into nistune but on an R33 it's too much jerking around. The only thing I don't like about PFC is no knock retard. a minor issue but something i wish it had.

Rear Camber Kit For The Lower Arms
Kinks replied to Turbz RB-25's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Generally they advise fitting the kit to the upper arms (inside and if necessary outside) but doing the second kit on the UCA will push the top of the wheel further out. They don't mention doing anything to the LCA because the LCA has 2 inboard mounting bushes and you would have to change both of these meaning you need 1 whiteline bush kit for each side. It's also a bit more work to get to the LCA. In theory it might work, but it depends on whether the LCA bushes are the same diameter and whether there is enough clearance for the LCA arms to come in a bit and not bind within their travel. -
LOL anna... dial up 6k and dump it.. no wonder she needed a break at lunchtime. that's great

(closest one that looks like a handy lol)

eyyy Eric cheers matey yay oh that's cold maybe wishful thinking eh.. efforts must be doubled! yeah that pic you've got of JAP25L is awesome
-
yikes. the car was only running right because it was nowhere near its potential to start with man it looks like it caught VD in some of those pics. I'd be guessing oil/water contamination or something foreign getting through (past the air filter?) what do the other plugs look like?

Why Aren't We All Swapping To Superchargers?
Kinks replied to No Crust Racing's topic in General Automotive Discussion
That's the big benefit - they feel like a bigger engine without the weight penalty. -
sorry mate better luck next time, thrash it to death and put a proper box in there with gears in it rather than slush you did bloody well considering!! I was very surprised to hear you had an auto after I'd seen you out there. thanks for the kind words on the day it only encouraged me to make MORE SMOKE how's the front bar? cable ties good as new?? (unlike the purple front bar that got turned into confetti there's no coming back from that!)

I've caught the TEXI BUG as well. That afternoon battle against Cass was fantastic, synchronised drifting my friend. I only wish someone got that on video. I think Anna was right, our technique is formed by the local roads both of us drive on I'll give a happy ending to anyone who has a photo of my silver R33 crossed up with smoke pouring off the tyres (numberplate begins AYQ). Or, if that's a negative incentive... I promise not to give said happy ending in exchange for said photo
-
I am hoping the photos come up tomorrow, it will give me something to do when i'm at work (you know.. besides being productive with my time). Just wanted to say a big thanks to all the organisers and those helping out on the day, it was my first texi and awesome awesome fun. Great success, you guys ran a top day!!

there are 2 kinds of write-off 1) structural. this is not repairable, the chassis goes in the bin. only good for parting out the bits of the car that aren't damaged. 2) financial. this means it could be repaired but the cost of doing so costs almost as much as just paying you what the car is worth, and the second option is easier. you can repair a financial write-off but not a structural one.

i can smell the tyre smoke already

Does It Feel Like Your R33 Is Outdated?
Kinks replied to crazyr33's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
the old unlock a car by bending the window frame (or window, since skylines are frameless) is pretty common. but the build quality in general of skylines is far and above ford and holden. they still look sexy. a nonturbo will be a dog though. you've got a sedan with a boring 2.5L engine in it - like a BMW 325i. commodores have a 5.7L motor so of course they're going to smoke you off the line. doubly so if they're an auto - autos are just untouchable in a 0-60 dash. boost, on the other hand, is a wonderful thing. -

^^ agree, in the sense that turbos don't give you "free energy" by harvesting exhaust gases. you do have a penalty and that penalty is in the form of backpressure.. turbos require pressure in the exhaust manifold in order to spin and do work. that pressure pushes against the piston on its exhaust stroke and "restricts" the engine. the plus side is you are cramming a whole bunch more air in the intake side so it is a net gain. but it is not "free" power. and yes, when turbo is off boost you have a nice restriction in your exhaust. however, it's likely the restriction is less loading on the engine than a mechanical supercharger. i think a blown engine would need just as low compression for a certain boost level, would it not? -
It can happen today, that's no problem... looks like tomorrow is still forecast sunny with the wind happening in the morning but easing later.

^^ so spend $400+ on a pod and an enclosure and a cold air pipe that does nothing for performance? don't do that. I have a special set of fuzzy dice here that will pull 30% more chicks. Yours for only $420.
-
How about we give you points for style if you look like you meant to do it that way
-
the best pod is no pod. use the standard airbox it has been proven time and time again to offer the same performance as a pod. if you want to be sik yulleh then buy a honda
