  1. nexen 2000's are compliance tyres and definitely rubbish. the 3000's might be a touch better but yeah.. you can do better. i've got a set of 2000's and they are pretty unsafe in the wet even when only half worn. trading them for some new boots in the next few weeks, although this thread does my head in because there's no consensus about what a decent tyre is
  2. yep RB20/RB25 manifolds are the same, but not sure about NEO
  3. we're assuming "all other things being equal"
  4. he's going to get fully ripped by the courts, yulleh.
  5. and sump baffles! and a roll cage. and stickers. actually, the stickers are the most important. get them first.
  6. yes, but if you want to buck the trend try here: http://www.shell.com/home/page/au-en/shell...fuelfinder.html
  7. Sounds ridiculous to me. Getting targetted when you are not the ones misbehaving. And the fact that the application of the "law" is so inconsistent only makes it all the more frustrating for those who modify their cars as the goal-posts keep moving and some cops just write whatever they want on the sticker anyway.
  8. ouch. you can get a cover note from insurance companies you know! really feel for you, that sucks especially since you've done nothing to deserve it other than having a fine taste in cars. It sounds like whoever did it was malicious and hopefully has their next life as a tapeworm. You must have bad crooks in guildford, when someone tried to steal my R31 the only thing they broke was the ignition barrel. No smashed windows, they even unscrewed the steering column surround rather than smashing it. Good thing there was an immobiliser tucked away, if they'd found the switch it would have been gone. Only had 3rd party property on it too, was not worth insuring comprehensively!
  9. This may be part of the problem, the "manufacturer recommended pressure" is way lower than you should run them for performance. Manufacturers specify pressure for comfort since that's what 98% of people want. My Pulsar SSS used to recommend 26psi in its tyres. I never ran them below 32, and put them up to 36 for the track. A tyre that's underinflated for the amount of stress put on it will fail due to excessive flexing of tread and sidewall. The more stress the higher your minimum inflation point.
  10. looks nice, congrats
  11. ^^ i was tempted to try VP racing when I went past a shell that carried it but I figured it was so out of the way that it would only ever be 1 tankful and a) the engine would have to re-learn less ignition when I put 98RON back in and b) if I don't know what I'm missing it's not so bad when it gets a bit more widespread I'll give it a go.
  12. I use Jet A-1 in my skyline.. I get fewer funny looks when I'm cruising at low altitude.
  13. anyone would think these clutches needed voodoo to last.. I had a 5 puck in the R31 and it went strong for 3 years. I even blew my tailshaft on one of the rare occasions I forgot my mechanical sympathy. Daily duties are no problem - I never rode the clutch but I certainly slipped it a bit. If I did ride the clutch rather than just put my foot on the brake it would start to make angry groaning noises at me after 10 seconds or so, so I knew not to do that! Bottom line, if you are a butcher then puck clutches have less friction material so they wear out quicker. Get a full face clutch.
  14. you can get a smaller antenna, it will have less gain. you can also get glass-mount antennas that look like mobile phone antennas. that's probably the ultimate for a stealth install.
  15. 1cm toe... holy crap. no wonder it was walking everywhere
  16. I'm interested in the physics of it too, good wrap-up djr. Pretty much any situation you get yourself into where you're bending a rod, is one where human perception of the problem and reflexes are absolutely hopeless. Anyway, a well built motor should not be anywhere near that situation.. ever!! Go with the best performing rods and stop worrying about it is my advice
  17. seen those drifting events before but never fails to impress
  18. If the centre itself won't give you the footage the only thing you can really do is talk to the cops and ask them to request footage from that camera for the time span in question. That might fall on deaf ears as well, the cops generally only get involved if something major happens eg ram raid.
  19. I'm sure it could equally be titled "why you shouldn't sidestep the clutch at redline" All the same, not pretty.
  20. grip and handling are different. handling is the behaviour of the car at the limit. All wider tyres do is raise the limit. The RSPCA is going to ask me to stop doing things to that dead horse soon..
  21. My radio is switchable 1W/5W, and I normally use it on 1W. 5W is useful for when you're at the edge of your range and just need a little bit more. However, remember that your comms will be limited by the weakest radio in your group. If you have a 5W and your mate has 0.5W (any cheapie handheld is 0.5W) then he'll be able to hear you but you won't be able to hear him, at the edge of range. The cheap unidens do a decent job, as long as you're not too far away from each other. Put a big enough obstacle in the way and even a 5W vehicle mounted CB won't get through (although it will be better at getting around it if you move a little), so it does depend on your terrain as well.
  22. what do you want it to do when you overcook a corner? oversteer? In standard trim the R33 handles very well. Off-throttle it is neutral to slight understeer through a corner with nice turn-in, and you can dial in a bit more cornering with the throttle and it really hooks through the corner (this is how you're supposed to drive a RWD car). If you put more throttle in it transitions to oversteer. Perfect. Note that grip and handling are quite different animals. A car that sticks like shit to a blanket but throws you into the wall the moment you step over the mark does NOT have good handling.
  23. I've never used hydrophilic used to describe brake fluid, only hygroscopic. But both words are close enough Also, DOT5 is totally different to DOT5.1 - don't get them mixed up
  24. I've heard many RB25's make a howling sort of noise.. not sure what it is just the resonances in the intake setup. Mine makes a noise but I'm not fussed unless it also starts blowing smoke
