  1. yeah.. the aus commentators piss me off. just show the damn race.
  2. My theory is that the synchros are just inadequate. My car was in near mint condition when I bought it and only 34,000km. With the original oil in it, 4th and 5th would grind. With Motul full synth in, 5th still grinds. They're just weak synchros!! Wear has nothing to do with it, by all accounts my car was cherished when it lived in Japan and it still has the problem.
  3. ^^ the spark plugs didn't fix the problem, they just hid the symptom. the real problem is the coil packs getting tired, running a 0.8mm gap is a band-aid for this. but hey, it works. I ran 0.8mm gap in my R31 for ages
  4. I'd say lack of oil before failure of the oil itself.. if the oil came out seeming normal then it's not that. if it came out runny as water and smelling burnt then yes it may have been a problem with the oil.
  5. the only time you'll have a problem is if there's something wrong with your car already. well maintained = no issues.
  6. lockers can be 1-way, which means they only lock under acceleration. a welded diff is always locked, of course. I wouldn't do it to a car if I cared about the handling, you'll find yourself driving around the diff. but then, with 320rwkw you're probably having most of your fun in a straight line anyway
  7. none of this hopefully
  8. get it built for 10 and rev it to 8.. better for longevity
  9. shaping up to be a really interesting race
  10. ITV aside, none of the other F1 websites have commented on it either. web forums are one thing, but a bunch of people having a pissing contest on a forum doesn't affect the racing community one bit. Maybe DC did the right thing and apologised to Wurz for having a massive brain fart, and the issue was nipped in the bud. I'd like to think so. It obviously scared him a bit because he's championing improved cockpit protection at the moment. I've got my eye on Massa and Rosberg for this race.. there's a coffee riding on it with one of my workmates (no, my office does not have a gambling problem )
  11. throttle body sensor plugged in? AFM? no obvious air leaks i assume..
  12. asking for preferences on car parts is the same as asking whether one hard disk manufacturer is better than another (maxtor, seagate, western digital etc). Speak to enough people and you'll find several who have had big problems with each item. since your existing water pump, timing belt, tensioner etc have all lasted 100,000km i would be tempted to put standard parts straight back on unless your motor is significantly modified. common advice seems to be to do water pump, tensioner and idler when you do the timing belt because it's a pain in the bum to pull it all apart again if you have to do them later on. so yeah, just do ONE service and fix the lot. depends how quickly it's leaking, as to whether you do it all now or you can get by for a month with regular top-ups. if it's a significant leak then do it soon because you don't want to forget you're losing coolant and overheat your engine
  13. warp speed, hot bitches, and party lights.
  14. I'm a big fan of the 8100. However my local parts store stopped carrying it and only has ELF now. ELF is quite good, but it seems to start burning off after a few thousand Ks - done 4500 on this oil change and it was almost down to L on the dipstick. With the motul I could drop it after 5000km and get almost as much out as I put in. Maybe I'm just driving harder now though
  15. wouldn't worry about it
  16. this pic always gets my juices flowing
  17. ^^ sure, schu made some retarded moves but coulthard's move on wurz in melbourne was a shocker and nobody batted an eyelid. DC has been around way long enough not to pull stupid moves like that. i'm liking this season so far - a lot of changes to keep me entertained. i'm gambling coffees with one of my workmates based on who wins/finishes each race
  18. 6 bar at 3k rpm when warmed up sounds high. i only ever hit 6 bar when my engine is dead cold, when running it's 1-4bar depending on idling vs driving. some people reckon that pressure is just a restriction of flow and that high pressure is a bad thing - means you should be using a lower viscosity oil. i think having "some" extra pressure when stressing the engine is a good thing though. you want to make sure the oil is forced into the bearings and stuff.
  19. Exactly. I've been driving for 10 years and I STILL make the occasional brain fart. They become less frequent with age and experience helps you get out of them. There is no substitute for experience, overconfidence when you're on your Ps can be a killer especially when mixed with a powerful car.
  20. forget the trannies, that engine bay gives me a semi if only I could discount a 3 month error in judgement I'd have you beat by 2 years
  21. gibson r31s = YUM i've got a semi.
  22. get it checked ASAP. one of the gears or pulleys isn't running true and it's making the belt walk.
  23. as people have said coilovers are crap if you want comfort. my car is standard everything (probably original shocks too, 49000km bought it with 34000km). the ride quality is f**king sensational - when i drove it it felt like i had just sat in an 8 year old brand new car. handling is sporty but forgiving. if i was doing any sort of significant track work it needs wider tyres, some sway bars and probably slightly stiffer shocks. but for daily duties it's beautiful. coilovers are great if you're on the track but on sydney roads... fark that.
  24. fair enough. i have only heard good things about motul oil so would be surprised if it was the cause of an engine meltdown. anything can happen I guess.
