  1. My RB20 runs 1 bar in the midrange but drops back to around 10psi up top, I would guess that the turbo and manifold pose a restriction which limits boost. EBC might make things better, the bleed valve I am using is renowned for spiking. But seems to be more a feature of revs since in a high gear it will hold around 14 pound in the midrange. Might be time to go an RB25 turbo
  2. A car should be responsive cold and hot and nissan probably had it perfectly sorted - until you put a huge pump in which is pushing far more fuel through. See if the TPS adjustment helps. they might also be able to tweak the cold start enrichment via the temp sender so you don't get as much extra fuel when cold. Not familiar enough with 33s to know what can be done though.
  3. For sure. A previous car's gearbox wore out (oil wasn't replaced plus the box was given a hard life by the previous owner and then me), and I had the workshop I always took it to replace the box with a second hand one (not reco, but should be decent). That gearbox did not go well, it started leaking oil. Took it to a second workshop who thought the bolts were in the wrong places, thought hmm. Went back to #1 they threw it in the air and said woah the gearbox casing's cracked... that's a warranty repair fair enough. So they pulled the box out and replaced it under warranty. So after spending basically all my measly uni student spare change on that car at that workshop for a couple of years (and they weren't cheap) I finally got my moneys worth, the second box was great
  4. you need a new compressor. wreckers or jap import places. you wouldn't need a new condenser if the compressor is the only thing that's gone. Although if the compressor has seized through lack of use the rest of the system might not be mint either... but I'd source a compressor and go from there.
  5. There are times when ABS is good and ABS is really annoying. Depends on your driving pattern, and skill level. I'd be tempted to leave it in for daily duties since braking in a straight line is a no brainer with ABS just nail the middle pedal. But if you're doing track work you might want to be in control of the brakes.
  6. I thought I'd have trouble getting off the ferry but it didn't even touch! although any decent bump along the way the tyres were rubbing on the guards. grr.
  7. I left when we left maccas... the cop turning up and telling us to piss off made me think there was a decent chance we'd get hassled in terrigal too, and I wasn't really up for that. Plus had to work today so I thought I'd call it a night. Said goodbye to whoever I could see, couldn't see you though!
  8. That was a top cruise, thanks Mona and Daz for organizing and Tosh for his input too Good to see you all, I'm not sure how much fuel I used but it was worth every cent!!!
  9. stock ICs heat up more quickly, so you might notice that. Also, stockers have a bigger pressure drop across them which means the turbo has to work harder to supply its set boost level (if the boost is measured just before the TB that is). If it's measured after the compressor housing you'll probbaly pick up a pound or two fitting a better cooler.
  10. the pizza thing is easy cos as soon as i get tired i can piss off home. but this will be a better drive, i'll just cruise until i feel a need to make tracks. no excuses, I'm there
  11. since your user text says it's a 325, that's fine. If it was a 318 you'd be told to try a bit harder (318 drivers seem to have to "prove" their car's performance by mashing it to go faster than a 1.3L charade at 1/2 throttle)
  12. http://www.turboimports.com/hkssupseqbov3.html seems like it's actually 2 valves in one. alternative answer: a sequential bov is fully sik, a normal bov is not.
  13. I think I hear an echo... oh it's tosh What's the ETA like on getting back to syd? Last time it was pretty late, I'm not sure if I'm up for the whole thing will wait and see.
  14. It might be a good look for you
  15. Chicks always behave like that when they see a skyline Moanie..
  16. the CRD guys love a laugh, everyone hosed themselves on the PF day when the poo-brown beetle pulled 195rwkw
  17. This is what my bleed valve does, and 11psi @ redline means the ceramic turbo's shaft speed will never get really high. However, it would be nice to have 1 bar at redline too
  18. 1.5 watt is better than 0.5 watt, however that will only help you reach other people. If you need to HEAR what's going on you need a bigger or better antenna. Not sure which one of those will have the better antenna, probably the most exxy one but that's not guaranteed Any of those do the job fine, but as milo says you do lose out on signal if you're in a big group or there's distance between cars. I've got an ICOM IC-40s which retails new for $400, but picked mine up second hand for a lot less than that. It's as good a handheld as you're going to get, and you can take it out of the car or hide it so you don't attract thieves. I will eventually upgrade to a proper mobile rig and keep the handheld for when I am outside the car. It's only really necessary to get a mobile CB if you do a fair bit of cruising though, for starters I'd just grab a cheapie and when it starts holding you back, upgrade.
  19. spread the fun out, it's better
  20. definitely not wastegate. on closed throttle there's no air going through the engine so the wastegate opening and shutting wouldn't do much. Either the BOV fluttering or compressor surge with air reverting back through the turbine compressor blades.
  21. if the belt has snapped and done no damage as it sounds you're pretty damn lucky! Might just be neglected maintenence, if the owner said nah screw the belt change i'm selling the car anyway. But yeah it is worrying. Makes you wonder what else hasn't been looked after.
  22. they are loud, because they are more powerful. as long as it's a loud crisp noise i'd say it's OK.
  23. word. still got all 12 points (touch wood), because I don't make a habit of doing stupid things on the road like some of the people in this thread.. 150 in a 50 zone? what the **** were you thinking.
  24. sump baffles are trapdoor hinges arranged in a rectangle in the bottom of your sump, around the oil pickup point. they open allowing oil to flow towards the pickup but if cornering/braking G-forces try to move the oil away they snap shut, and trap some oil near the pickup. Helps prevent oil starvation if you're going nuts on the track or whatever
