  1. which car? Generally yeah, plastic covers are there to make it look nice for joe bloggs. But they do also protect coil packs and stuff from water. If you're not regularly in the habit of giving your engine a shower with the hose then it's probably OK to remove it. It often does help remove a bit of heat from the upper engine. I'd check what's underneath though.
  2. crapstomers = crappy customers.. "hi i'd like to return this item I purchased 2 months ago. I don't have the receipt and packaging, is that ok?"
  3. I'm a maybe at this stage. Will know a bit closer to the time.
  4. As Blitz says, the idea of road cruises is to get out with a bunch of mates and enjoy driving. Going crazy on the roads and pulling stupid stunts is not the idea, it's a relaxed cruise not a race
  5. don't buy a 4wd whatever you do.. god knows we don't need any more "urban jungle offroaders" on the road
  6. shit.. I better come then :D And to hell with the crapstomers on saturday! mwahaha.
  7. Man I hate working on saturdays. Maybe I'll come anyway in the new hotness
  8. double points = apathy for modified/import car owners...
  9. AAMI require occasional drivers to be listed, for the pulsar. No effect on premiums but obviously occasional driver has a limit to how often you can drive it. If you were driving and it was damaged, the insurance company could definitely knock it back. If your parents claim for theft damage and say they parked it at the shops and it was broken into it might be ok. knore, when you claim on insurance the company asks how the car was damaged. If your parents say they crashed it, they get a blot on their driving record for 5 years. If they say you crashed it, the insurance co says "hahahahaa, ok bye". it's not a simple matter of dodging the system, if the insurance co finds out they'll refuse to pay the claim and that'll be that. They're a business after all, not a charity. If your suggestion works consider yourself lucky!
  10. I would definitely like to ask what the point of your post is but I have 2 problems 1. at least you're into skylines... 2. don't need this thread turning into a bitchfest
  11. I'm very keen to get the new baby out on the pan and make a complete fool of myself in front of you all. Consider me IN
  12. Have a friend who ran a turbo for quite a while with no BOV and it was still fine. Unsure about my car but it's making a fluttering/chattering/chopping noise so either the BOV's pretty tight or the previous owner removed it. Will have to perform a more thorough investigation but everything's in good nick!
  13. It totally depends on the function vs noise factor. The majority of BOVs I hear hit top volume when the sik one behind the wheel revs it to 2000RPM and shifts up - basically having a BOV for the sake of having a BOV. Hence I voted for "lame", because the poll's wording as such is whether or not they are "cool". However, a subtle atmo BOV which vents air without making a racket when you're up it, or a plumb-back BOV, will have a performance gain if the rest of the car is modified. At the moment I'm not sure if my car's even running one... will have to check
  14. Best plugs for an RB20 are apparently champion golds - RC8YX
  15. noo i want to see!
  16. Have tried it, but prefer to stick with RFB. If you know you won't need the clutch it might be alright, but you gotta be careful about getting crossed up in the heat of the moment
  17. ew.. rotten luck hopefully she's alright!!
  18. Will be able to tell you the exact Champion part number for red top RB20s that works the best, tomorrow night. Basically 1 heat range colder than standard and they run perfectly.
  19. psi gives you a more usable scale for boost levels. Just seems mentally easier to deal with "10" vs "14" compared to "0.8" vs "1.0". or in kPa it would be 70 vs 98 which isn't bad, but nobody uses it. some people are just used to talking in hp much as I'm used to talking in kW. just as long as you're clear how much of what units appear where, you can convert it to your preferred metric! When you're talking boost though, it just sounds like an accomplishment if you have cracked "1 bar". but if you're making less than that you probably want to quote psi hehehehehe
  20. Going too thin may have adverse effects because, if the oil is like water, the pump won't be able to build up enough pressure to make sure the oil is squirted to the right places in the engine.. Also, the surface tension may break down and allow metal to metal contact - only likely in a worn engine though, I'd say.. As a general rule, go thicker in summer since a given oil will thin with higher temperatures. I also wouldn't go more than 1 grade thinner than the manufacturer recommends, and even then I'd only go thinner after considering your engine's condition. It can give better performance but it's not worth it if longevity is compromised (unless you feel like a rebuild anyway lol!)
  21. Well when the thief is busy making his choice of whether to go for your stereo or your air freshener, you could run back to the car and slap him into next week Nothing's a guarantee your car will be left untouched, these days. But a good alarm will hopefully deter them.
  22. That's an exceptionally dangerous generalisation. I've seen the opposite, and it's the very reason I don't drive 10/10ths on the road in ANY car.
  23. I'm very interested in doing any form of skidpan work in the near future. Will confirm when you set a date.
  24. The performance envelope is much higher with a turbo 'line compared to an SR20 pulsar, and I think it's enjoyable to simply have that potential there - although it will also be frustrating not being able to use it I will say, I had HEAPS of fun in my old 91 charade 1.3 - 61.5kW at the wheels and a torque curve that was flat to redline it used to rev its tits off. And the best thing was 2nd redlined at about 80 so you could give it some curry into 3rd and still be doing a sane speed. It handled like a go-kart too so it was much fun to punt around corners you just hooked it in and it stuck, and felt like you were going fast (and I've had people express surprise when following me at how nimbly I could negotiate a set of corners compared to them). So much respect to the zippy camp but as always you want bigger, faster, stronger.. I'll be fortunate enough to have the best of both worlds in that I can still keep driving our SSS occasionally when I upgrade to turbo and RWD.
