Just pulled the panel off to get to my ecu in the passenger footwell as I am about to put my PFC in, and I found it has a sticker/badge on it that says SWAT. I did a search on SWAT, and I found it to be Stagea Web for Advanced Tune, apparently a Japanese tuning house specialising in Stageas. Does anyone know why my R32 GTR has a Stagea tuner's mark on the ECU? I assume it has been tuned by them. Any comments on this, or experience with this company? I should have checked my ECU before buying my PFC hey?

Its an old school HKS 'Electronic Valve Controller'. It has three buttons that you can press for 'low', 'high', or 'manu', and a dial on the right hand side, for the manual setting, that goes from min-max. I have no idea what this is actually set at. When I was testing I had it on 'manu', and the dial turned to 'max'. Max boost is estimated at 15psi Tomorrow I'll try to test it on 'low', 'high' and a few different levels of the 'manu' setting, just to see if that makes any difference.

OK, I didnt have much time to test her out, but it is actually WORSE than I thought. I really need someone else in the car to help me tell what boost at what revs(that should happen tomorrow), but I did a few runs using the shift alarm on my multi checker. In second gear mostly, and third a couple of times. At 4000 its making about 0.4kg/cm2. At 5000 its making about 0.8kg/cm2. At 6000 its making nearly full boost, just under 1.1kg/cm2. I know there is something wrong now. Any sugestions as to what would make it do this? Bad turbo/s? Timing way out? Cracked hoses?(had one earlier) One of the truckies at work said it sounds like it is missing on one cylinder, but he is the only one who has said this, and the car has been around many people in the know(mechanic friends, compliance guys etc). I suppose it could be; I'm an ex Subaru guy, so I'm used to a bit of a burble. We'll check that out tomorrow too, just to make sure it isnt that.

Thanks guys. There doesnt seem to be any big dents in the exhaust, but I'll get under her tomorrow and have a better look. I know sweet bugger all about how the EBC works, and little about cam wheel settings, but I'll try to look into them. I'll try to take her out for a drive tomorrow (I'm at work now, without GTR), and plot revs vs boost level properly. For reference, I was in second or third when I was testing, not first, it revs out too quickly. I'm thinking its just the timing is out, but I don't know. It could have aftermarket turbos for all I know; I have no reference point as to what it SHOULD be doing.(except you guys)

Thanks Richard. Thats what I thought. It might not be 5000rpm, but its almost that high. Anyone have any ideas what'd make it boost up late? I don't really. It hasn't had a tune yet, so I'm hoping it'll get sorted out when I get the PFC in and tuned, and new front pipes and dumps. Anyone else have any input?

ali-turko, I SOOO hope that you realise they are goofing around. Most of them anyway.

Get a boost controller and give yourself a few more psi. Get a Power FC. Seriously mate, just look around these forums for a while and get some idea for yourself. If it is your first car you probably wont need more power, just get everything sorted out on the car first, then think about performance in a while. And finally, the words GTR and BUDGET, simply cannot be used in the same sentence, especially TIGHT BUDGET. Welcome to the world of Skylines.

If you have trouble converting pressure measures (psi-bar-kg/cm2) I use convertme.com http://www.convert-me.com/en/convert/pressure I have to get a guage that reads psi, because thats what I think in with pressures.

OK. First up, I've searched but didn't find what I'm after. Now, my car is an R32 GTR. It has cat-back 3.5 or 4inch exhaust I think, HKS pods, HKS cooler pipes, EBC, plus a HKS turbo timer and Apexi multi checker(PFC yet to go in). I think thats all the performance mods. (I know TT & checker aren't perf.) I only have a Greddy boost guage that reads in kg/cm2. Turbos are believed to be standard, but I really have bugger all idea if they are or not; I can see Garrett on one of them though, thats it. At what revs should I be getting boost? And when should I have full boost? Currently I start getting positive pressure around 3500ish, then about 0.5kg/cm2(7psi/0.49bar) at 4000rpm. I think its at full boost or almost by about 5000rpm. Full boost I think is about 1.1kg/cm2 (15.5psi/1.079bar). I Is this normal? I think its a bit laggy, but this is my first GTR and first turbo so I dont know.... As I said above I have PFC sitting at home to go in, and I'll probably get new front pipes+dumps+hiflo cat put on when I get PFC in, so that should spool it up a bit earlier I hope.

Fastest Production Cars Ever
liber8_d replied to GTS_300_Coupe's topic in General Automotive Discussion
1.9 seconds for a 0-60 MPH in a rear wheel drive? I'm a bit sceptical about that. It'd have to have MASSIVE tyres (like 400mm wide), probably slicks, and perfect surface for traction. What do these things weigh? Less than 1000kg? Lingenfelter claim their hottest 427 kit is good for 3.2 0-60 on "ET street tires", ie drag radials. This is beleivable. 1.9 is stupidly fast. -

32 Headlights And Tail Lights
liber8_d replied to ricknismo's topic in For Sale (Private Car Parts and Accessories)
Hey Rick, I'm interested in the headlights, if you are in Sydney or nearby that is. What car/model are they from? I have an R32 GTR, but I've been told the headlights from a GTST are the same, just with different globes or projectors or something. Please PM me or email to [email protected] with details. Thanks -

Yeah, whoever decided to set up an auto-spam program needs a 9mm hole in his head. It will do nothing and probably put a bad light on the whole thing. Send one email from each name and email address, and remember that emails from an address like [email protected], are probably more likely to be looked at seriously than ones like [email protected] or [email protected]. Just my 2 cents. -
You are of course correct. They were made from Dec 1998 before we got them in I think 2000? So the S15 Silvia build dates that are eligible for import are: Dec 1998 to Aug 2000 models. Hope this clears up my previous error. Sorry.
-
Blue_J, that used to be true, but now you can import S15s made in the years after they stopped selling them here in Aus.

I describe it as a "choofle", if that makes sense. I could drive around choofleing all day, and it does sound pretty good on the right revs when goin up a hill and accelerating a bit then backing off(choofle-oofle-oofle), but it gets pretty annoying if you're trying to maintain a certain speed. Oh, the prices we pay to drive supercars.

I just got my PowerFC from the last group buy. It arrived quicker than what I expected and I had no hassles at all. I opened the packing box, and it was a Qoo box, which brought back fond memories of hungover mornings in Japan (for those who haven't been to Japan, Qoo is a drink, non-alcoholic). Now I just need to get it installed and tuned.... Thanks Paul!!!

.... and research, research, research! Read everything you can on the forums, use the search function if you find something you want more info on, and chat to as many people who own skylines as you can. You can never learn too much, especially on something that will cost you so much.

1. There is no specific level of mods that you have to get an aftermarket EMS at, but the level of mods you listed is around the stage I'd be looking at changing it. Either that or turbo next. 2. Apexi Power FC! 3. I'm not sure if they REQUIRE it, but just about everyone uses at least premium, and most use 98 octane like Shell Optimax, Caltex Vortex98 or BP Ultimate. Japanese have access to even higher octane. If you get it tuned( say with your new PFC), tune it on 98 octane and run only that, to maximise performance. When/if you do import your Skyline, don't go out and buy a big list of parts to whack on it when it arrives. In fact, don't buy anything performance wise until you have it and its all sorted and you know its in good condition.

Your Experience In Non-skyline Sports Cars
liber8_d replied to Smurf's topic in General Automotive Discussion
My uncle owns a shiteload of cars, including a 355 Ferrari and a white 911 Porsche that I know of in Australia. He also has a Lamboghini Diablo in New Zealand that he races, plus his WRXs and the Merc he bought for my aunty. Its a shame that he is my aunty's second husband and a creepy loner that I see maybe once or twice a year, and that I've never even sat in a single one of his cars. Other 'sports cars' I've been in are: Dad's ex-cop AUII XR8 which goes OK and handles OK for such a boat. Sister's VT SS went very similar to XR8, but not quite as good. Sister/bro in law's VU?VX? Clubsport, a bit faster than the XR8, but very good brakes. XR6 Turbo I almost shat my pants when the young sales guy boosted in second, my first turbo experience. NONE of these (pretty poor sportscars I know), even come close to coming on full boost in second in my GTR. -
16,482 Rockinghorsepower ATW. Dude, power will be different for every engine. You dont even state what other modifications you have. Even if you only have an EBC and a few pounds more boost, and a decent exhaust and intake, you'll make vastly different power to a stock car. Also, the amout of power GAIN will vary depending on what mods you have, and then theres the fact that HKS make I don't know how many camshaft variants. Sorry to shoot you down, but get real mate or post more info if you want real answers

Goign To Japan For A Week To Buy A Car!
liber8_d replied to zer0for0je's topic in General Automotive Discussion
Your idea sounds good at first, and I've thought about how I could do similar (personal imports). Like the others said, importing a car with an engine swap is not possible (wont get complied) under SEVS, which is the only way to go now as the 15 year rule is gone. So its not really feasible, unless you are really fussy and you want to make sure the car you buy is exactly what you want(and you have access to auctions etc). Otherwise, choose one of the importers, tell them what you want, and stick to auction vehicles, as all the major Japanese auctions should have vehicle assessments done before auction, so you know what you are getting. You NEVER know what you are getting when you deal with "trusted suppliers", who are also known as "dodgy Gaijin", and "those with short life expectancy if I ever go back to Japan". -
I've paid, so thats six confirmed now. I'm unsure what I'm going to do yet, I should really get the rest of the exhaust done before I get the PFC tuned. I only have cat-back, so I should get a high flow cat and front pipes, and probably new dumps as well. I was going to get new turbos as well, but I don't really want to start down that path, the car has cost enough already.
-
Oops! Sorry guys. I didn't get around to paying up yesterday, but I just spoke to my mum and she should be doing it for me right now(she's a bank manager, very handy). Now, where's everyone going to get their PFCs installed and tuned? I'm down the south of Sydney, and I'm leaning heavily towards BEL Garage, in Regents Park. I know everyone says Croydon are the best, but they charge like a wounded bull because they know that. What are you guys thinking? I've got an R32 GTR by the way.
