Yeah true... but I want to be able to sleep at night...

Officer: "errr we're going to need forensics down here... maybe a hazmat unit too"

Yes it sucks but hey I was young and had never been in an accident before... I hope I never have to be in a simliar situation again. Last time I checked, vigilante justice is illegal unless it's considered a "citizen's arrest" - but that itself is only valid if they try to escape after committing a serious crime; the last thing you'd want is for them to turn around and sue you back (knowing the world we live in, they'd probably win despite being in the wrong at first)

Yeah I'm using one... 3" Hi-Flow Metalcat; I wasn't really using it for any performance reasons... more for legality, and also to get rid of the repulsive fuel smells coming from my exhaust which was also coating my rear bumper yellow. Great success in achieving these two goals.

The Automatic Performance Thread

Just realized I didn't quite answer your question regarding the ignition timing on the shifts... The F-CON has a feature whereby it will read from an auxiliary map when the car demands it; these aux maps are programmed to whatever the tuner wants - water temp, air temp, rpm, auto shifts, etc etc. At the end of the day, you end up with a primary fuel and ignition map but also about half a dozen aux maps that come into play whenever the situation requires it. As it is installed in a piggy-back format, the F-CON can read all the signals coming to and from the standard ECU. Using the "car-select" setup, the auto signals are also read by the F-CON and that's how it knows when to kick in the aux maps to keep it running smoothly. -

Hey Gary, The dyno sheets I have are for the 330 and the 350rwkw; I left the 380rwkw printout at the workshop as I left after going out for some street tuning... will try to get a copy of them up for analysis. I think the biggest thing is the extra 500cc but also the 6 throttle bodies that make it very responsive even with a 2,800 stall converter. And yes, from what I can tell the flex plate problem is only with the R34s... the R33 one on dangerman4 seems to be doing OK, and the ones on the RB30s are also fine at similar power levels. The main problem is the fact that the plate has a lot of holes punched out throughout the already-thin "skin" making it rather structurally unsound, the torsional strength of it would be next to nothing. Mike at MV was commissioned to do the job on the new flex plate... the brief was relatively simple; make something that would bolt straight on and take upwards of 600-700nm. He delivered and to this day the box hasn't whinged one bit. The shift compensation has been taken care of with the HKS F-CON V Pro... with solid advice from HKS Japan, we've been able to implement the system so that it retards ignition whenever shifting takes place by a fixed amount at a certain ms increment. Its 100% tuneable and so far its working well. Before we fully implemented it, the shifting would result in rather horrid thuds from 1st to 2nd, 2nd to 3rd... after the A/T Compensation through the F-CON though, the shifting was smooth - much like a factory auto. Talking to other users of autos, this may or may not be good as a smooth shift = a lot more time, also meaning more heat which kills autos. The harsher the shift, the less time and ultimately less heat. However, the downside to this is the 'shock' that is sent through the drivetrain that can ultimately destroy it. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- It's interesting though, a lot of people doubted the possibility of running this engine combo, let alone the power figures, through this auto before we set off. Still have a lot of non-believers out there, but I guess as I said up top - technology and knowledge has advanced a lot which allows for this stuff to happen. We've capped the work at the car's current output for 2008 for budgetary reasons... just can't afford to push for more and risk more stuff breaking. Come 2009 though we'll gun for 400+ which will be interesting. -
There is a general misconception that autos are worse than manuals... maybe true 10 years ago but definitely not these days with the amount of technology that is available. In fact, I'm game enough to say that autos will be the future rather than your manual boxes...

98' R34GTT RB2630 Turbonetics GTK 650 F-CON V Pro 3.24 MV Automatics Gearbox O/Haul, Shift Kit, Flex Plate 330rwkw @ 11.5psi 350rwkw @ 14.5psi 380rwkw @ 19.0psi I have had the V Pro tuned about half a dozen times now... 3 times before the build and 3 times after the build. Only in the last 2 tunes have we really perfected the A/T Shift Compensation in terms of ignition retarding. The car shifts perfectly and loves the power - able to fry the tyres from standing start all the way to the top of 3rd gear. For those who have read my threads, the flex plate needed a beefing up as it broke at 330rwkw -
I have a similar story... For those who live on the North Shore, you'll probably know about the open car-park at Neutral Bay Woolworths - worst carpark in terms of space per car, and an absolute mission to park properly with the uneven surfaces, random stone placements etc. Anywho, I was standing around in from of my BMW waiting for my parents to arrive for dinner... standing about 2-3m away just having a fag minding my own business. This old lady and her daughter-in-law arrive and try to take the spot next to mine. Old woman was driving and in her attempt at getting into the space went into my rear driver side door, tearing off the trim, adding dents and removing paint. Damage to her car was minimal as her Merc had vinyl wrapped bumpers. Anywho, I watched in amazement and decided to let her finish parking. To my surprise, she decided the space was not for her and proceeded to reverse back out n leave. This was when I lost it, went up to her car and almost put my fist through her window. They were both mortified and thought they were being car-jacked. Anyways, they stopped and got out... Lady; "that wasn't us, it can't have been us, take a look - there's no damage on our vehicle..." Witness; "yes that was you, I was standing with this guy and watched you hit his car..." Lady; "well how do I know you're not just ganging up and trying to rip us off, there's no other proof..." Me; "well in that case let's call the police..." Lady; "oh don't do that, I was only joking, what details do you want?" blah blah blah Old woman ended up giving me false details; and when I took the matter to North Sydney police station, they were unwilling to assist me further despite having contact details for the witness and the registration number Lesson learnt, don't park there~

Rb25/30 Neo Gt3076 Exhaust Housing Size?

Also don't forget that an EBC allows you to completely change the way boost comes on... the difference is huge when I have the EBC OFF vs ON. Other wankier functions are also handy under the right conditions as well (e.g. overtake boost). I highly doubt you can have a car out-perform another in terms of w/gate only vs w/gate + EBC. -

Uhuh... I'm sure the entire world agrees with you on that one -

At which time you know you need some different components... (e.g. stronger w/gate springs, bigger w/gate) - the EBC should be good for 99% of applications provided you are piecing together a logical system; it will fail without a doubt if you are pairing parts up that shouldn't be together. -

Unfortunately no... but can confirm that it works wonders on my setup (Turbonetics GTK650, 60mm W/Gate, E01) As I said though, takes a while to setup properly on the dyno - but well worth it. -
Why have you got a RPM limit of 4K for the run-in? What as the problem in the end, how did you fix the issue you had before? Interested in power figures, even on run-in...

I'm not an expert but my Profec E01 has this function and it is very easy to use... 1) do a full run on the dyno at the desired boost settings 2) analyze graph with RPM & PSI readings 3) set E01 RPM offset range and increments (say your boost drops off between 5,000 and 7,000, you'd set the range between 4,500 and 7,250) 4) set values that increase / decrease the duty cycle of the solenoid so that you can achieve a flat boost curve LINK: http://www.mohdparts.com/emanage/manuals/p...1_manual/21.jpg -

Interesting to see that people are still concerned with boost dropping off at high RPM when things like "RPM Offset" is widely available now... can literally force the boost the remain flat regardless of componentry (just takes a lot of patience on the dyno) -
R34 Pop-up Screen To Triple Gauge Conversion
satanic replied to R-SPEC's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
Yeah we've done it before... Basically you'll need the following: 1) New centre console components (I think A/C stays the same, but the Radio needs to change - this is if you want to do it 100%) 2) When the radio changes, a few of the internal bracketry needs to change too 3) Need the gauges and the cowling 4) Need to factory boost pressure sensor (little black thing just in front of the driver side firewall) Installation is a breeze, all plug n play - there are no wiring tricks required as all the plugs n stuff are there already. -
Spotted GTT04D whilst out on a drive... twice actually, once leaving Chatswood and about 30 minutes later heading back home - like the colour and seems to have some power to to it
-
Nice... I usually hate those wheels but they suit the car / colour very well.
-
3.5yrs in the R34 (OK, only really 2.0 behind the wheel) - never been defected or fined for speeding / hooning etc. Have been pulled over a few times for RBTs and "how you doin' chats" As mentioned, don't drive like an idiot, know when and where to have a bit of fun, and you'll be right. How modified is my car? Ummm.... it's modified

Yes, Jason is the editor I'm talking about... as he was the previous editor for Hot4s as well, I'd put money on it that E.P. will just give him more work (hopefully jacking up his salary too). Jason = awesome writer
-
My mate is the editor of HPI and the posted information is correct - his job is still safe though And FYI, the lead time from writing an article to print is about 3 to 4 months... their printing is actually done overseas last time I checked.
-
Agreed... but try putting this into practice at a Dyno Day or something... Public Liability nightmare if the cars aren't strapped down.
-
By my understanding of the law/s currently in play - the police could pull you over, do the RBT thing, and dismantle your car piece by piece right there and then if they wanted to. And yes I did use the word "dismantle". What most people forget is that the reaches of the law do not end when you get into / get out of your car. Anti-drug, Anti-terrorism, Anti-whatever laws can all be rolled into one to suit their purposes at that present time. If I was a cop and came across a complete smartass - I'd start with the drug search before having the car stripped on the suspicion that it was housing a weapon that 'may' be used in an act of terrorism.
