So who was the dickhead who brought Aerogard instead of suncream....at least I didn't get eaten by "Mosquitoes, Flies, Sandflies, Leeches and Ticks"!!! Seemed to keep all the hot chicks away as well.....man my neck looks like a sundried tomato! Day worth the pain tho.... Kier, John & Sub Zero cars, 2700HP worth! Loved one of the Sub Zero runs with tyres fully smoked to half track.

Slayer/Sly33, you're on the right track re pressure drop across factory intercooler. It was my car that did that test on my request (you might notice a Black R33 with DTMs in many issues of Zoom and HPI as Tim and I use my car as a bit of a test bed, for example 1st with LT-12 Plug-in). I wanted to know the performance of the factory one compared to the RPM/Horsepowerinabox 75mm thick Bar & Plate I was buying at the time. So the test included pressure drop across the coolers as well as temperature checks, and yes the factory cooler has a 6psi pressure drop across it at anything over 5000rpm at WOT. However alot of guys run 12psi with standard turbo and they have hung on for ages no worries so they are very tough. I now run a max of 15psi with large FMIC as the pressure drop is less than 1psi now, so the turbo does not overspeed as much as it did at 12psi with factory IC.

A few mixed opinions but all good stuff, thanks. Have been searching on the net and heaps of info. MRT for example has a kit from Aquamist and I'll call them tomorrow to discuss the benefits and also to see if it can be controlled by my LT-12 ECU, etc. Would want it to be triggered by two inputs, firstly by inlet temp (say only over 30°C) and the secondary trigger might be above 0.5 Bar. Probably stick to water only I think, have a large supply of high purity deinonised water at work that would be good. Just gotta work out myself if it's worth the hassle I spose.

Anyone tried direct water or even water/metho mix injection before? Have read in a few tech books that it's a good idea with quite a few advantages for detonation reduction and I reckon would supplement the FMICs nicely, especially on hotter days and on track days. For instance I have a pretty aggressive tune that I might have to back off for summer which sucks, I'd rather help reduce detonation as much as possible and keep the tune for whole year by having water injection. One book says best to put it at the inlet of the compressor, but didn't say why. Any suggestions as to why? I reckon the blades would get a hammering if you didn't set it up right. Would have though after the turbo or after the intercooler would be safer.

I had mine (R33) done through Tim at Horsepowerinabox.com, the factory weighs around 9.1kg and my new stainless steel (chrome moly) weighs 5.9kg, much better throttle reponse now and it really whipps up to the redline in the first three gears. So those HKS versions are super light for sure! MrMayhem, do you have idle problems with the HKS flywheel?

That's excellent stuff mate, well done. Would be a blast to drive.

Yeah, I think when the handprint turns black & blue is when you gotta call it quits :sperm:

Works Auto, please don't bother posting anymore threads until you have conducted some research, you are just a funny little boy with a small brain and over-masturbated genitalia.

Clint, So what's the result mate? I thought it was scheduled to be tuned today by Martin. Cheers, Freebaggin.

Took one for a blast the other day and was impressed. Very nice feel and sound from motor (good revs compared to previous frod sixes) and good handling for factory car, if a bit sloppy/bouncy in the rear. HEAPS of potential with GT3040 turbo (600-700HP!!! turbo that one guys!!!). Gearbox and drivetrain a worry for sure, not up to R33+ Skyline standard. Funnily enough I reckon the autos are stronger (Aussie gearbos as used in 280kW twin turbo V8 GT3200 Masseratis). Has very big exhaust standard, looks like twin 2 1/4 inch. Just need bigger turbo dump, bigger FMIC, boost to 15psi and ECU tweak (Tilbrooks in Adelaide have the ECU tuning equipment for the Forrd ECUs) and you have 250-280rwkW easy!

Car covers.....Toyota Echo wings.......etc etc

Christ, you dug this one out from a while ago....by the way, get stuffed, even the legends make mistakes. Hey we could make this the grepin/Freebaggin abuse thread, see if we can get it closed on us.

I think numbers like that are normal for highway cruise as it is only under very light load.

I am running an LT-12 and fuel economy and light throttle drivability the main issues. Otherwise I can't fault it, a very good value unit with lots of potential in it in terms of software and other modular upgrades from Microtech and also when powering up later with bigger turbo/injectors. Power FC better for fuel econ. due to closed loop operation under light loads and idle plus only aftermarket ECU to use AFM which I think can help with tuning precision. All the rest ditch this and use MAF for outright power and other reasons. I've heard Microtech are looking into closed loop upgrade to their systems, like the Haltechs. Sly33, that being said, you just need to get it retuned for economy, you shouldn't need to have an economy tune and a power tune with different maps. Under boost and WOT, all tuners lean off from factory settings (to a safe level) which has the side benefit of better economy anyway. Light load/throttle driving should be tuned for economy with the same overall MAP and that's the stuff that takes the longest to get right. With the LT-12, you probably need to get the accelerator pump 1 & 2 settings changed to deliver a bit less enrichment, probably a bit less rich in "warm up" and idle and things like that. I've had mine retuned 4 times for drivability and fuel economy, first R33 to get plug-in LT-12 and therfore a bit of a guineapig so tuning bugs need to be ironed out. Now getting between 12.5-13.5L/100km or about 400km per 50-54L around town. Still worse that factory ECU, albeit with 30rwkW more and much better throttle response all through rev range. BTW, getting 200rwkW (series I std. turbo, FMIC, 3.5" turbo back exh., custom inlet to compressor without AFM, 044 pump).

Yes, testing sessions are always valuable learning experiences, they are purely for educational purposes..........I might put them down on my next tax return as an education expense incurred.

Good stuff! Sounds like the right way to go about it. What power are you getting right now and at what boost? Do you have any of the earlier power numbers from the less modified set-up? Good luck!
-
GTS-t VSPEC, that sounds like a real nice set-up already there mate. Do you have the power readings after each stage of your upgrade so far? What differrence does the 90mm throttle make and has it made it crappy for light load throttle usage? I have done almost as much as you and want to go GT30 next and am thinking about the same thing re cams but then again I am not opening up my motor like you are and there is less incentive for me to change cams I spose. If you were gonna go for cams, then one compatible with the VVT would surely be the best. My car sucked when we the VVT was off accidentally during ECU tuning, BIG mid-range hole. Freebaggin.

While at race got to sit in 1992 Bathurst winning Winfield GTR (part of Museum at Bathurst). Had my Nissan SVD club shirt on and it so happened the guy looking after the car was the Pres. of the NSW SVD club! Didn't let me drive it but earlier was driven in anger around the track...the engine sound was as you'd expect! Amazing engineering in that thing!

For your car grepin, I'd feed the back hose all the way under the drivers seat and then drill a hole up through it for a snug fit...........BTW, welcome back.

Clint32, who is Dr Drift? Only place I heard of doing R32 remaps was Tilbrooks, although I never looked into it as I have a R33. Freebaggin.

We're still goin! Leaving 3:00am, will take approx 12hrs:o Want to catch the qualifying, if we can stay awake until 10pm! Staying at Panorama Hotel. Anyone hangin around after the race? PM me if you want to join some drunken Crow Eaters

Driving to Bathurst very early Friday morning for 24hr sports car race at Bathurst this weekend. Will be huge! FIA GT cars will be there, about 12 international entries vs Aussie Nations Cup cars, GTP cars etc etc. 7L Monaro making debut. Pretty sure there won't be any GTRs but plenty of turbo Nissan, Mitsubishi and Subaru stuff to mix it up. Will be a good change from the Falcadore V8s. Anyone else goin? Freebaggin.

Thanks 25GTT. Was the tour you're talking about organised through Bossandi or someone else? Understand re Malaysia.
-
G'Day all, There is a Jap performance parts importer in Adelaide called Bossandi that tried to organise a tour to Japan in Sept this year for the Motegi round of the GT championship. Not many people went but the business owner said it was fantastic. The tour cost was $2950 I think and included extra stuff, such as off-street and on-street drags/drift, visits to speed shops to buy etc. Let me know who would be genuinely keen on going to one next year (please no half-arsed shows of interest) and I'll get back to the bloke with numbers. There is a round each year in Malaysia in June that would be cheaper for sure, but wouldn't have the other Jap specific stuff. I have made phone contact with the guy in Malaysia that co-ordinates the teams accomodation and transport and he is keen to work something out for a few Aussies. For example staying in the same hotel as the GTR teams! I'd be keen on either Japan or Malaysia. Cheers, Freebaggin.
