  1. Strongly suggest doing at least valve springs if not cams as well as the cylinder head is at its limit at around 285+ kw. Car will suffer from compressor surge and valve float at 7000+RPM. had this problem with two cars now. one running gt30/40, other running to4z. both of these cars are running Turbosmart wastegate 38mm,
  2. check air flow meters as well.
  3. Surprised you are making that power with standard valve springs, if you havent needed to upgrade them so far i think you will find that you will soon. had similar setups valve floating and compressor surging on similar boost at 7200rpm. excellent figures though mate, would like to here what numbers it runs on the track.
  4. Had a couple of ignitor failures as mentioned earlier, this will give you simptoms you are experiencing, but as SKid said , start with the basics first, keep in mind the components you are talking about are around 16 years old.
  5. Brother, I am a mechanic by trade and run my own business. I wouldnt fit the aftermarket pump if i thought it might fail or leak as it would cost me money to replace it. as earlier posted, have fitted a dozen RB30 aftermarket pumps on RB25, Rb26 & RB20. Some of these engines making upward of 280rwkw. Pumps have been on cars for over 12 months in some cases and i havent had one leak. Im all for running quality parts, genuine if necessary as i never use aftermarket seals, but when you find a good quality aftermarket part that can save you $60, ill use it. That $60 will pay for drive belts etc. The brand of pump i use is a Truflow and is supplied by Auto1. Good luck with it. it is only a simple water pump replacement at the end of the day. I sure all will be O.K. which ever way you go.
  6. Pull plenum off, if there is metel shavings up that far you can guarantee they have entered engine. Dont make the same mistake and continue driving it as it will cause more damage. at the moment you will probably only be looking at a hone, re-ring & head service. leave it to long and it might be a bore and pistons. Kind of a catch 22 situation. good luck, i hope it is the latter.
  7. might be interested in swapping it for a highflow + some cash, ill do some figures and work it out for you, see if its worthwhile.
  8. no need to be a smart arse, this was about 6 years ago and i was using a fuel only F3 Haltech and running methanol. push engine as hard as i do and we will see if your liitle computer will save your engine. the point is a forged piston can fail, regardless of the cause, fuel pump, injector alternator etc. if you are posting to give the guy advise and help answer his question its all good. if you post is off topic and your just trying to piss someone off, well congratulations you have succeeded. as it seems you have all the answers and obviously havent broken anything how about forwarding the guy some of your knowledge, otherwise suggest moderators do there job and delete posts that are off topic and that are a deliberate shitstir.
  9. Would you be interested in swapping for VX SS Cmdre. Black, Six speed , 45000km, one owner, 12 months rego, Full pedders suspension upgrade and twin 2.5" exhaust. my wifes car, but ill tell her later. PM if at all interested. Regards Stuart.
  10. yes use one, will cost you about $90. bolt does not matter.
  11. CP are the shit. but any piston can fail. dont think because they are forged that you cant break them. i torched a $1200 set of Ross pistons in the Galant due to an alternator failure, yes $300 each, very upset but i learnt my lesson.
  12. Yes they fit, have fitted a dozen, no problems, only differnce is 6mm bolt on top of pump doesnt fit.
  13. I have a thread running in here somwhere about a RB26 single turbo upgrade. Used the GCG mstainless manifold with the GCG 35/66 SPL & 48mm turbosmart wastegate. has been on car for over 2 months and is a daily driver, no problems thus far. Car has hade mild tune done. 275rwkw on 12.5 psi. going for final tune this week. Turbo is very drivable. Ill try to link to thread but not sure how.http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=119136&hl=
  14. If you nad no intention on upgrading the turbo then you have made the correct decision. the other option is to have your manifold power ported. this will give you the increased flow you are looking for and is a good option dollar wise as well as a good supporting mod for a highflow turbo. Pretyy sure it only costs around $3oo to have done + gaskets and labour etc. best part is, everything bolts back on with no modification of pipes or plumbing. as that is where all the expence is.
  15. How much performance do you want. 285rwkw @ 21psi on stock internals. I dare say the manifold is not holding it back. 11.62 @ 123mph.
  16. Chris, It's one thing to say that the manifolds 'look' the same but to suggest that they're the same thing is ridiculous. Until you have seen the manifolds side by side you can be forgiven for thinking that they're the same. Anyone can copy an exhaust manifold design but copying it well is a different story. EVERY ebay manifold we've EVER seen has been rubbish and each and every GCG/XTR manifold we've used has been fine.
  17. Dont get me wrong, we use a lot of aftermarket manifolds, mainly XTR supplied by GCG. Have been on cars for over 12 months without a hitch, but they arent $300. Get what you pay for.
  18. This is why, this manifold was supplied buy customer and lasted 8 days before wastegate fell off, it was repaired, then three weeks later all the welds on the runners cracked. if you like getting stranded with a massive exhaust leak and no boost go ahead. this has also happened on a SR20 manifold supplied by a customer. I will no longer fit them as have been stung twice. There is a reason they are so cheap, the material is way to thin. The pic of the flange was taken after repair but you get the idea. Oh and suppliers are not very helpful when it comes to warranty either.
  19. As already stated the reason for using lower gear is so not to overspeed the dyno, stock to mild cars should have no problems being dynod in top gear, and the same for automatics, if your car does over speed the dyno in top you usually finish top end of tune at the track, which in most cases is what has to be done anyway. usually only get 90% of tune on dyno and clean the rest on the track. as for the power readings, as long as you dyno the car the same way before and after your modifications, you will see an improvement which is what you are looking for.
  20. The picture you have posted is a direct port kit which means a nozzle in every cylinder. that kit is probably good for 300hp. all you need for 150 is 1 nozzle, 1 fuel and 1 Nos solenoid, a malpassi reg (rising rate if it is a turbo car) with guage, Nos filter, nos pressure guage, bottle warmer. you can tee the supply in on you standard fuel supply if you have a large intank pump, otherwise run an independant fuel system. Put nozzle infront of throttle body. You have too run the correct size pills. always start at 900psi bottle pressure and start fuel pressure at 38psi. fine tuning is done with these pressures, have to get it close first by interchanging pills. the pills you have in that kit will most likely be too small as there are so many nozzles. Should realy have someone help you with the tune side as timing retard is essential aswell. Have posted some pics of single fogger nozel setups and one of a direct port setup. hope they are of some help. Pretty sure the smallest pills you can get are 30hp, they are differnt depending on wether you are running a efi pump or a low pressure pump. if the car is turbod you will have to run efi pump with pills to suit.
  21. ahhh, no they are not, standard are bush bearing, you can have your hi flow upgraded to BB.
  22. Can have yours hiflowed for $1350 + freight. Consists of new larger compressor & exhaust wheel (steel) and reconditioned bearing cartridge. Retains your housings but they are machined to suit. PM if interested. Regards Stuart.
