R33 GTS-T Series 2 I’m selling my R33 Series 2. Have had this for over 10 years, but not been driven much for the past 5+ years. Has recently done a head-gasket, due to overheating from a blocked radiator. I don’t have the time or energy to repair it, would make a great project for someone else. Mechanically, it was very good, made 239rwkw at Boost Worx. Has a big high-flowed turbo from Sliding Performance, PowerFC, Nismo fuel pump. Paint work was starting to fail – buffs up well, but after a couple months, some areas start to go hazy again. Needs new tires. Power steering rack was leaking a little bit – reservoir needed topping up every few months. These are all the bad things - I like to be honest and disclose any problems, not cover them up. 150,000km Would be a great project for someone to take on. Never been defected, currently unregistered, but will re-register for sale to avoid any chance of having to take through Regency. Asking $6,000. Trav 0403150010. § 19” Koya Inox R1 Wheels, 8.5”/9.5” - Kumo Tyres (need replacing) § Pod Filter § Sliding Performance High-Flow Turbo § PowerFC with Hand Controller § LED Rear Tail Lights § Clear Nismo Side Indicators § Dark Tint § Black-wire alarm+immobiliser, with turbo timber and auto-window winders (professionally installed) § GTR Front Mount Intercooler § Exedy H/Duty Clutch § Bilstein Coilovers, package through SydneyKid. Including adjustable sway bar, Front Strut Brace § Custom Boot Install by Adelaide Pro Sound, including Tru Technology USA built amplifier, Rainbow splits, Rainbow 12” Sub. Sound deadened doors. § Timing Belt – replaced with Gates § Exhaust § Blue LED dash lights § Nismo Upgraded Fuel Pump § Sports Pedals § Nismo Gear Stick § Carbon-fibre wrapped bonnet (plastic construction, ADR compliant). § 239rwkW

Weather you have this particular Seagate HDD or any HDD, you should be backing up regularly!

I'd be interested if you can provide more info on this, i've got the same PSU and hear a pop (and can see the sub move through its extents) on power-on and power-off. I've put it down to the sound cards i've used. I'm currently using the Audigy 2NX USB (External) card - this creates problems with roadrunner (several threads on mp3car about this sound card), something to do with the USB side of things - the computer resumes from hibernation and the sound card doesnt re-appear in time.

Thanks, you just saved me from wasting $200. I'll keep looking elsewhere for the EP45-UD3R !!
-
MSY have NOTHING in stock at the moment, taking forever to get all my bits. From what i've read on the Gigabyte website EP45-UD3R = DDR2 RAM EP45T-UD3R = exactly same features as EP45, but DDR3 RAM. However the EP45T commonly is cheaper than the EP45?! Is there any downside to getting the EP45T, and sticking DDR2 RAM in it?

All Type Crash, (Para Hills) have a good rep, my 33 is in there at the moment.

I've got a rough idea what timings mean (thanks to wikipedia), and i think the kingston 1066 ram i'm looking at is 5-5-5-15 which is ok. but is the throughput important too? i saw some figure mentioned (i think MB/s), which was different from the speed of the RAM. Been out of the computer scene for a few years, this thread+a couple PC User Mags have helped learn and try to get up to speed, but havent seen a memory comparison in PC user yet.

Ah of course... i should have compared: 1x4GB DIMM with 2x2GB DIMM's so as soon as you split the RAM over 2 DIMMs, you'll get faster access because the mboard will utilise dual-channel?
-
so what would be quicker: 2x 2GB DIMMs, or 4x 1GB DIMMS? I'm assuming dual-channel can only work with 2x DIMMS so the first option would be quickest.

After all the words-of-wisdom and other research i've done, here's my proposed system... Case: Coolermaster RC-690 PSU: Coolermaster Extreme Power650W CPU: Intel Core2 Duo E8500 Cooler: CoolerMaster V8 MBoard: Gigabyte EP45-UD3R RAM: 4GB Kit(2x2G)DDR2 1066 Kingston OS: MS Win Vista Home Premium 64b OEM DVD Monitor: 24” 2ms HDMI WS Acer P244WB HDD: WD Caviar GP 1TB SATAII 32MB Cache IntelliPower Optical: LG 22X+-DL DVR/RW Black Video Card: Palit Radeon HD4870 1GB Sonic Dual Edition Speakers: Logitech G51 5.1 155W Desktop: Microsoft OEM Wireless 3000 This is coming in at approx $2200, the most expensive component being the Video Card.

I think the price difference is approx $30. If 460MHz is doable, and i've got $30 to spare, isnt this better: E8400 - 460FSBx9 = 4,140 E8500 - 460FSBx9.5 = 4,370

Thanks, So is the E8200, E8300, E8400, E8500 and E8600 all the same processor, but with a different Clock Multiplier? And to push the E8400 to 4GHz, you need to bump the FSB up a bit more compared with if you started with the E8500? Is the E8500 able to be o/clocked any higher than the E8400? I've found this page, with lots of results, will have a bit of a read tonight. http://www.ocforums.com/showthread.php?t=544848

Hey Nismoid, I'm thinking i should go the overclocking path. Some good results in the Feb PC User Mag. Looking at the E8500 + CoolerMaster V8 which is approx the same price as a quad core Q9400 - but significantly higher results from their tests. 1. Is the motherboard you mentioned, Gigabyte EP45-UD3R, suitable for overclocking? 2. Trying to read up on the basics, do you need faster RAM for an overclocked machine? i was going with 800MHz DDR2 ram, but not sure if this should be 1066MHz, if i'm overclocking the CPU from 3.16 to 3.99MHz. Thanks mate

What program(s) are you using to download? I used to use bearshare, but it seems rather bare now! -
I did a quick search, and cant find a list of the processors available in the Intel Quad-Core range. I'd like to know the full specs of the Q9650 (its not listed listed on my pricelist, only the QX9650) Intel's own page only shows 5 models: Q6600, Q6700, Q9300, Q9450 and Q9550. http://www.intel.com/en_AU/Consumer/Learn/...-au+c2q_desktop

What makes a good case? I initially started the cheapest midi tower, and then worked out i need front USB (preferably up high/on top for easy access), and firewire. Dont need any fancy lights or clear panels.

No i7 fanboy's yet!... My understanding of double-data RAM is that you need 2x identical sticks to make use of this. So if you install 3x sticks of RAM, does this dual-channel faster access still work? How do you work out the power supply required? ie 620W vs 550 vs 500. From all of the above, the 2 video cards i'm looking at now are: Gigabyte nVidia GTX260, 896MB DDR3 Gigabyte ATI HD 4870, 1GB DDR5 Not sure what stat's i should be comparing, but from discussion above i believe the 4870 is a better card?
