  1. So whos entered and racing?? Ive got a GTR thats actually got gears inside the gear box and providing it survives GP tomorrow will be racing
  2. there's been some progress. Front legs are in and windscreen bar is done. Passenger intrusion is done and half the rear intrusion as well
  3. It'll be fine on the dyno,
  4. Yes thats the OEM oil cooler. Your better off pissing it all off and screwing an oil filter thread straight into the block and doint it RB30 style with the oil filter mounting plate straight to the block. We dont run those OEM coolers with aftermarket cores as well. Found they allow way to much oil temp variations depending on heat soak in the cooling system etc.
  5. Nothing even close to a dry sump set-up. Done plenty of the pick up sides but never done it with the pressure side. I cant see any reason why it wont work the only advantage is like you say slightly shorter oil lines for the cooler and no need for a filter mount on the block. Its alot of friggin around when the original gallery works fine and filter mounts are not that hard to use. On a race car I could see some small benifit in making things simpler but for general use I cant see the point.
  6. massive thanks has to go out to peter at Bonds roll bars for his help today. I was having a few problems getting front legs that would work with the chassis design and didnt have the time or patience atm to bend them up. They could not be too tight to the a pillar due to the body shell needing to be removable but they had to be a neat enough fit to look okay and do the job. Peter came to the rescue and made me up a set of perfect fitting legs this morning. They are close enough to the pillar to tag neatly but far enough away to make shell removal easy and possible.
  7. shouldnt have to decide. Drop the V6 idea before you even begin. Id considered it a few times over the years and never done it for a few very good reasons. Money not being one of them. The RB works perfectly in the chassis Transmissions are cheap and easy to get for the RB (try buying an upgraded VQ tranny for a decent price) No custom one off parts that might fail and cant be replaced at the track Single sided exhaust system keeps thermal management to a minimum and also weight Plenty of off the shelf parts for the RB, bottom ends etc are so cheap and easy to get (again price a VQ) Management is simple and easy to get Not to mention the outlay to have things made like tailshafts etc etc. My oppinion is that youd spend a tad over 10 grand converting to a VQ roughly. That 10 grand would more than cover a decent dry sump system for your existing RB and also cover alot of the rebuild parts you'd need to make it sturdy. Also saving alot of headaches and drama come time to race it and break it. Just my oppinion. Like you say long way off but id be changing direction now. I considered using a VQ40 pathfinder engine in my current GTR but gave the idea away and went back to the old faithfull RB26. There is just no reason to make the change in a chassis that works so well with the RB
  8. Yeah sorry I did read VQ but had VG on the brain. Same applies still. Dont do it.
  9. thatd possibly be the worst thing you could do to that car. Stick with the RB25/RB30/RB26 The cost to change the engine over will outweight any benifits and there is far better support for the RB engine than the VG. You have to remember your trying to build a race car. The simpler you make things the easier it becomes. Go stuffing an engine into a hole it was not meant to be in and your asking for a world of pain. Custom parts can't be found easily at the race track. Atleast with an original engine there is some hope of getting the right parts when something breaks from a repco or supercheap etc. If your prepared to carry a mirrad of spares around then go for it but really there is nothing wrong with the RB and id forget the VG idea before it even gets off the ground.
  10. im not sure how it will be done yet, the current car has 4m long ramps and is 80mm off the ground. it JUST get up onto the trailer deck. Im going to have to get a new trailer to take the width so I may have to custom build it and make the trailer lower to the ground as well.
  11. Duncan can you email me the current rules again, I seem to have lost them and google is not working for me. I can widen it 100mm per side yeah?? Ive had a bad feeling its 100mm total but im sure thats wrong! And on a side note the other GTR got a new gear box yesterday. We pulled the old one down its got a shattered 3rd/4th selector fork. Its absolutly smashed to bits.
  12. Is the car 35mm off the deck or just the body kit?? My actual chassis rails are 55mm off the black stuff. so the body of the car will actually have to sit alomost level with the chassis rails. Min 40mm rule sucks It'll be fun to get onto the trailer with that kind of ride height but meh. I dont think it would be possible to get a skyline that close to the ground without doing some major re working of the suspension. I know Johns Z car is no where near that low and I dont know about marks R34 but I suspec alot of that is body kit hanging down
  13. im not arguing, if he gets them through then great. My persoanl experiance I had one rejected for not having a diagonal member in the hoop so ever since they all get it. I guess its the same as front door bars like 253-17b. Ive got a cage passed with that straight leg cut and welded to the side intrusion bar. However more recently with my space frame it has been knocked back and the leg must be one solid bar. Rules are open to interperation and every inspector is diffrerent I guess. Thats cage design savman would not pass any of the inspectors I use either.
  14. yeah from the rear Floor will be within the guidlines Flat under the car except bwteen the wheels as per the regs. Ive decided to lower the budget on this car and probably put it up for sale when its finished and competative. Or ill donate it to Jay to drive and ill remain the owner, I dunno something will happen with it. Already there is things I want to do differntly so ill be building another once this is complete. I really want to do an inboard suspesnion set-up and change the control arm layouts around but now the main chassis is done its to hard to do so ill save the ideas for next time around
  15. Yeah ive got some here somewhere. Ill find them latter im too lazy atm
  16. Na no fires. I woulda let the thing burn anyways!! Oh shit did I actually say that.
  17. This is a crap iphone photo of how the chassis currently sits. The rear section is pretty much sorted and the front is now underway
  18. na woulda made my day. I got a pretty good relationship with the local high way patrol. They like to pull me over and I like to drive stupid cars on the road. We get along just fine. It was a typical Duncan's car trip though it DID break down. The battery was dead flat and the negative terminal was dicky. It stalled at a set of lights and wouldnt start.
  19. I beleive its all looking good for the yellow/purple nugget still. Duncan may have more news Ive got a few funny photos of me driving it around on the road the other week, That was pretty amusing. Every barstard looks at you weird like your crazy. Its a pig of a car to drive, clutch is horrid, exhaust is drony, diff is annoying. But its still somehow really fun!
  20. Its funny you mention that Chris. My old Grey GTR has just been on sold to someone else and im preparing it to run the MRA. Jay will be using my current GTR in the MRA and I may have another GTR in the pipe line that ill bring out to run sprints and MRA with. Depends on alot of things but yeah it may be a possiblity to have another car to use. Plus there is old mate boz who's S13 were getting ready to go racing with too. That will be a little ball tearer with him behind the wheel thats for sure Atleast two of my ex cars will be competing
  21. 3.2.4 Diagonal member:At least one Each Diagonal member must be fitted. Its location must be in accordance with drawings 253-3 to 253-5 and it must be straight. I and the people who cert my cages interperate that as each diagonal in those mentioned drawings must be present in the cage design. Those drawings as im sure your aware indicate a hoop diagonal and a rear leg diagnoal minimum Some of the basic cage drawings dont incorporate a diagonal but the way we read those rules it is required. If his getting them through that way then oh well but personally id rather have a diagonal to stop the thing folding over.
  22. I dont think ill be aloud to enter next year, Jay will be running campaining the same car I am currently using but I think somehow they will frown upon sub 60 second cars racing at this event. Im looking to do the state sports sedan series instead next year. Or taking the year to build another space frame after Ive learnt from the current one im building.
  23. Not really a dig at anyone just frustration. Its really not hard to get into, but when you get all wrapped up in the rules and analyise everything so much its really not nessisary. Just get it caged and go racing. Its budget entry level motorsport. Your not going to get raped by the scruits for not having a 3 layer/fireproof garment blah blah. You dont need the most expensive seat or harness you need none of that just get out and learn to drive. I realise there is funds issues I can appreciate that, your pretty much set to go chris the car is fine. On the whole car thing its true Chris. I Read something about someone not wanting to damage a car, thats all well and good no one wants any damage but you gotta accept what your about to start doing and be prepared to excahnge paint if it happens.
  24. Mine will be 100mm per side larger than a GTR. It will resemble a skyline but wont follow the same body lines. It will have a GT car style front with the tires sitting well up inside the guards and so forth. A normal wide body wont cut it due to the ride height. Chassis rails are 55mm off the ground so you can imagine the bulk the guards are going to need to cover the tires. Ill put some recent photos up tonight. I now have alot of the chassis done. Just need to do better front legs as im not happy with the ones I have and then can finish the main part of the cage.
  25. ummm good luck getting that cars cage approved. There is no diagonal in the main hoop which it must have???
