Dazmo's R33gtr Build
Risking replied to dazmo's topic in Members Cars, Project Overhauls & Restorations
Ive got two busted ones and know of another 2 that broke as well. Pump failures are pretty common on circuit cars hence why anything serious is being dry sumped now days. -
Gearbox Options For Motorsport Skylines
Risking replied to wrxkilla's topic in Motorsport Discussion & Builds
Yep trust boxes are just a quaife set. However the billet optional sandwich plate is made buy trust. I dont know of anyone who's ever bought new but second hand a good one is worth roughly 5-6K and they are getting harder to get parts for as some of them are no longer being produced. Lay shafts are one of them you'd be better off with the extra cash and buying a PPG which you know you can get all the parts for come time to service/replace things -
Gearbox Options For Motorsport Skylines

I've used alot of them. The quaife (trust) boxes are okay but have issues with the lay shaft and gear teeth. The dog engagements are pretty good they are firm and positive. Parts are getting harder to get so I wouldn't use one unless you have spares. PAR box I have was average. I think I got a bad one though as others I had driven were much better. It was a syncro box but the engagement teeth on 2nd and 3rd kept stripping off the actual gear and hence loosing drive. The PPG offering is really good as far as dog boxes that ive used go. Its fairly cluncky to get used to but once you learn to be rough enough with it they shift very well. Im yet to find any wekaness as such but i know of others who have found problems. Be it driving style or design im not sure. Im currently fixing my sequential box after it broke 3rd from lack of maintainance. Its a good box with a gear indicator (will be on my AIM dash now though) The only problem I had when it was fitted was the whole pulling it out all the time for inspection and servicing. I let it go a bit and hence ran into problems. The cost to get a clutch and flywheel to suit was a real killer and the other reason ive let it sit for a while as they also needed to be replaced. The up keep on any dox box or other is pretty massive when you consider how oftern the car gets driven. We used to pull mine out every 5-6 days of racing and inspect it just to be safe. Since buying a kinder suprise aftermarket box I have left it in the hole and not worried about it. Now after 10 days its really starting to get lazy and you can feel the gear changes being baulked. Its some form of straight cut thing but I have no idea what as yet. Been pretty good to me though considering everything else prior bar the PPG broke within 6 months. -
Personally I wouldn't use an N1, Jun or tomei. Ive broken all 3 and have mnay many customers with broken Jun and N1 pumps. Depends on your application for a roadie anything will be fine providing its balanced well. The NITTO pumps you speak of are excellent. Ive tested them a few times in pretty high reving RB26's and never had one fail. Id rate them up there with the tomei/jun offering if not better from my experiance. Id recommend you dont use one without some form of extended sump though. On the engine dyno monitoring oil level we were able to empty a stock sump and fill the head even with restrictors and returns etc etc. 12 litres is about right from what we've found and those that sell them will also attest to it.

there's a few competative sports sedans on my105 atm for well under 50K kel!! Bad luck just seems inevitable with this thing. My GTR better not catch it while they are around each other thats for sure

haha, thats a pretty good way to put it. Saturday is way to late. Didn't have a problem supplying oil to the head, its just where it was not going once it was in the head that was the problem... Sam rekons shit from the previous engine has blocked the gallery to the front journal of the exhaust cam. The head was obviously cleaned but blocked cam gallerys are not really something thats usually a problem. Luck it didn't get to far gone and the thing can be repaired. Jay's wrapped cause he gets to pull it back out now. Im liking this whole being sick and not aloud to do anything thing at the moment. Watching you lot put it in the first time was funny let alone again. Im going back to work tommorrow, im so tired of sitting around home! There's only so many steven Segal movies I can handle...

I have a dual external wastegate set-up for an RB26. They are factory manifolds that have been modified to suit twin 38mm Tial wategates. Have custom made steam pipe Screamer pipes. These fit with all the factory piping and intakes, there is only a few power steering lines that require moving to get the front screamer to fit. And obviously you tack weld your internal gates closed. Im converting to a custom manifold/balance pipe shortly so these are for sale. Im asking $450 for the whole thing ready to bolt on. Apexi pod filters with cast adaptors Good condition $150 Ill get photos up when I can.

Ohhh God New Regulations Have Been Issued
Risking replied to tacker's topic in Motorsport Discussion & Builds
You'd need a pretty decent budget and some top shelf bits but it could be done. What power/weight category are you going to compete in?? -
haha, that's be the day to attend! His new donk should survive, or it friggin well better cause we don't have the spare built yet. Sam spent ages checking and double checking then I spent ages checking again before it was assembled. Duncan seems pretty happy with the sump and external pick up arrangement. The sump only JUST fits inside the sway bar and chassis rails. It held just shy of 14 litres from dry!

Yeah Sunday is the engines optional day though. If it feels like competing it will if not it'll give up sometime saturday and say enough.

its running and ready thanks to Jay, I watched. We didn't really have any issues. Sounds good, great oil pressure as it should have.

Duncan and I were looking over some data the other night (and a few beers) My GTR turn one entry is 196Km/h on average. From memory the average speed over 10 and 11 was 150Km/h odd and then back to 90 something for 12.It would probably go another 10-15k's faster over the flip flop but for some reason I get off the throttle coming into 10 and then dont get right back into it over the crest. Need bigger balls to hit it harder I think. Its comparitvly slow through 2-5 and blistering from 5 onwards. If I can work out how ill post up some of the AIM data logs I have to show corner speed/throttle positions/braking margins etc. Its pretty interesting stuff too look over. Im lead to believe my GTR will be there on this day but I wont be driving it. I found a quick was to wash off all that speed, use the walls. Been there done that at oran park. Its not fun but pretty effective at taking the speed out from under you. On that though seriously, I came off at 128km/h (yes data logging is accurate) at turn 9. I did'nt spin or lock up I went into the kitty litter sideways and managed to only just brush the tire wall. Enough to do damage but that kitty litter is Very deep and very effective at slowing a car down. Had I entered 15K's slower ( a normal cars entry speed) I would not have got the wall at all. -
R32 Gtr Gearbox Syncros Can Be Replaced ?
Risking replied to cm712's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
to do the latter series upgrade you need to buy several parts that allow the use of the dual syncro. It works out rather expensive if your paying someone else to rebuild the box. Bottom line yes you can rebuild it but its proabably not worth it and alot of people opt for e second hand box. Wrong solution I know but the one thats mostly used. -
wanna sell your Kart andrew??
-
I seen John at the bottom there. When you wanna take the GTR out for a run?? its collecting dust like your old one...
-
Stupid entry forms. Dunkan the car is still packed from the last round too. Saves us some owrk before oran park.
-
yous drunker than me. I can still type coheirantly when i need too. There's fancy shit inside it too! I measured it and you will need 3 bottles of the finest. thats a pretty expensive oil change but still cheaper than a rebuild. Actually it costs me less to buy bearings than it does to buy oil now I think about it! Still a bottle or two short of my tank!! If you do another bearing Im dry sumping it and shoving the oil pump up Guss' arse! There is nothing else we can do about oil control using this stupid pump layout. Myt welds on that sump are actually pretty straight, needed another crownie before I welded it.

Don't buy something that has no local support. Ive used those ultra lap timers before I bought the Aim Pro data logger. They work pretty well and have good recall functions. I was a little less than impresed with the beacon but when its connected to a good battery it was fine. Id recommend you go to super cheap and buy one of those really small 12 volt batterys to run it off. I still use mine on the AIM beacon and it lasts 3-4 days before it needs charging. I just made up a cig lighter cable and plug it into that on the way home. It charges up off the lighter power and I dont need to worry about buying batterys every meeting! You can but them from Ebay as well for a good price or tweakit is the distributor as well. Depending how you are the software and download cable is pretty good. It has a decent database and allows you to lable sessions and drivers. Only thing I didn't like is that it lets you edit times and move things around. The AIM software downloads and locks everything so users can't "fudge" the data so to speak

I delivery one kinda large sump Doesnt halp that duncan and I have both been drinking Chris.
