  1. Well - don't get me wrong. I am very very happy to be told its nothing to do with it and find another reason for it. As I said above, Ross is a good bloke to deal with, its good to buy Aussie, RIPS uses them too - and I still do have mine - so I am all for it NOT being anything to do with the balancer. But when Piggaz started throwing belts and so did I, especially when I wasn't before hand - it raised alarm bells. Now ABR33. So I felt it was worth mentioning - just in case. Lets hope we can find the real reason though.
  2. The ATI does underdrive the P/S by 15%. Even so, I am only spinning it to 7200 max. This -could- be the difference. But I never had the problem with stock damper on previous engine build, nor the ATI on this one. So it does seem co-incidental. But it seems I am not the only one having the problem...? Daniel, in your opinion it is likely that during the removal of the ATI and fitment of the Ross we could have bent just the nose of the crank? A puller was used etc - so it wasn't wrenched off with a crowbar or anything dodgy.
  3. yeaaahh... what the hells going on Paul? Farken.. (did I do that right?) Only 40 days to World Time Attack and I want a drive (I mean ride...). Don't let me down.
  4. mmm... I was not going to say anything, but this thread concerns me a little. I had an ATI Balancer on my car and removed it to fit a Ross unit with the trigger wheel - only a few weeks before Piggaz did his actually. I immediately started throwing power steering belts. This was the only change made to the car at the time. Have been back and forth to Ross - the man himself who is a lovely bloke and very helpful - however haven't fixed the issue just yet. Used the idler pulley as above and fixed it to a degree, but still some issues. And my worry is that this is a bandaid to a problem I did not have when using the ATI 1000hp unit. Got new power steering bracket and faced it flat - slightly shimmed the power steering pulley to make sure it was definitely lined up right. Shortly afterwards my cam belt somehow jumped three teeth in 3rd gear, full throttle at about 5500rpm. ( was logging it at the time is how I know) Got the car back to the workshop - cam belt is still well tensioned - so we are at a loss as to how it has jumped - unless a foreign object got in there. Piggaz meanwhile has done an oil pump shortly after fitment..... The reason I have not posted on here prior is because I don't want to start any rumours without hard facts... and - lets be honest I still don't have any 'hard facts' but now seeing this I thought I should mention it. Ross has a very good reputation anywhere I read, so I don't want to tarnish it. But if there is (somehow) something going on here we obviously need to know. Unfortunately both my car and Pauls are off the road so I can't continue my 'research' on this at the moment ! Any thoughts/comments from engine builders?
  5. So I would have thought that the Tomei profile would be preferred at first glance. I know there is a lot more to it, but with the Tomei being more 'square' than than the JUN 'triangle' it's going to have more area under the curve. So the valve must accelerate faster on the opening and be 'more open' for longer, no? In theory if you could open the valve almost instantly and keep it fully open for its given duration then that would be ideal, the Tomei looks closer to this.
  6. No doubt it's something to do with the balance of nature... Law of the jungle.. To prevent the earth spinning backwards if all 3 of us launch in 3rd at the same time... ... Or, I just keep breaking shit. It's one of those two I reckon... : P
  7. Well mate I demand a back to back comparison. That's the only way to be sure. Plus you'll be doing the GTR community a great service - which I know will make you warm and fuzzy. Tomei first?
  8. Haha! Aaaw.. Now don't be like that. Mmm... Brakes.. Nah they'll be a couple of weeks away yet apparently. No rush seeing as mine is "Parked" like Yours anyway...!
  9. .... I don't know if that coating is going to last Paul. I mean look at it... But ah... I don't want to burst your bubble or anything...
  10. Can we ban this guy?
  11. Well that's it... I'm out. I may as well pack my stuff up and go home. Jesus.. 675awkw.... Pfff! There is no point continuing..
  12. ahhhh bit slack of me not to reply - sorry mate. Nah didn't drive - my car is still parked up unfortunately. Gav went really well, managed 5th I think. Looks like a really good fun course its a pity you didn't make this one mate - I think you would have liked it. Got a half decent pic of Gav's car launching...
  13. This is on today for those who are interested in coming down for a look. There is a morning session and arvo session - most of us from here go to the arvo session - so if you're at a loose end............... come say hello!
  14. Yeah it's weird. Bigger end tank you wouldnt think would make any real difference..
  15. Oops... What did I miss? Do you mean the bit about it being the same core? Bris already pointed that out.. Or something else?
  16. .....I think what he is trying to say is that a 4L motor on an XR6 requires less boost (since its a bigger container) to get same airflow and HP as a 2.6 Litre motor does all things being equal - and therefore is concluding there is less heat to take out (due to less boost required) and hence a smaller intercooler for same or similar effective output....
  17. Agreed.. you wouldn't think changing the intake would be a restriction though would you.. you think that would be the least of the restriction... Anyhow - just pointing out they 'change something' when getting up to those levels. I'll have to do a back to back myself someday just for interest. I'd like to log the intake temps and pressure drop over a known 'load' etc and see what happens.
  18. Interestingly they mention the magic 400kw on their front page and offer a 'big' intercooler for it... Doesn't say how big - just in the 'intake size'.
  19. I might be on camera duty....
  20. Geesus.. show us your torque steer eh?
  21. With Round 2 done and dusted its time to get ready for................ round 3. This will be a cool course by the look of it. 3.1km's in length and pretty flowing but with variety of corners. Have a look at the Round 2 thread for some pics and video from the last one. Bring your street car and have some fun guys. Have a look at the entry form attached, it has a picture of the course layout. May 27th 2012 Sup Regs and Entry.pdf
  22. Well done to everyone. In Skyline world, Chris in the Orange GTR took best time, Gav, then Richard. Look forward to the next one!
  23. And an outside look of mine - failing as she comes onto the skidpan...
