When's The Next Canberra Gathering?
sl33py replied to sl33py's topic in Australian Capital Territory
Yeah. I just thought it was weird @ no rears. I don't send any signal to the rears in my Civic anyway (just fronts and sub), so I guess it just saves weight and no interference between 6x9's/whatever and the sub. Mine subs only 10" and did the job in the Civic, hope it'll be ok in the line. I got 10" cos it was cheap and I like my metal so need a quicker response than 12". I'm not quite outer belco snooze. BTW: I made a post on car covers for skylines but noones answered guess everyone's lucky enough to have a garage (and not have a family of 4 with one car each!). Plus I'll have the civic until I flog it off so that's 5 cars. We have a garage but it's chockas so NOONE parks in there, what a waste... -
Things that go *bump* in the night... like car thieves!

R31_silo2: well.. I've got something in the works and it already has a comparable stereo gear. Curiously there are NO rear speakers... anyone seen this before?? I thought rears were stock. race_snooze: well see, I coulda sworn I saw one that was white in my suburb and thought that was the one I was gonna check out, but this one was grey. So I might have seen yours, but I have nfi where you live lol @ starting 32 vs 33 war -
What's recommended? My current car has a Mongoose M80S in it (triple point immobiliser) which I like. My mate's Liberty B4 has 7 point immobiliser. Does anyone know of systems with more than 3 point? Or simply a really good system? Otherwise I guess I'd go the M80 again, but I'm after other opinions...

Answer Qik Pls! What's This R33 Worth? + Airbag Q
sl33py replied to sl33py's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
Never mind.. I think the suspension was stock so it was a bit boaty. I've since tested another one which had a bit done on the suspension and is in much better condition in every respect. -
Who makes a good car cover for an R33? I don't have a garage I think 99% of the reason I want one is to protect the condition of car - stupid pollen/birds/nature and junk where I live... the other 1% is to deter crooks too lazy to look under it. Do car covers scratch the paint up and stuff? I've seen some that looked like they were made of some really rough stuff on the inside...

From every source I know, 30% loss through the drivetrain is commonly accepted.. so 200atfw = 132rwkw! Of course, the 33% may be more acceptable in typical passenger cars, not sure about Skylines and such that are more likely to have lower weight drivetrain etc in stock form

I'll try to get to the next friday night meet, and take you up on that offer! I think I've made a subconscious (sp?) decision to upgrade the suspension on the skyline I get (if needed) before doing any stereo work. And that's saying something considering I spent 1600 on the sound in my titchy little civic hahahahaha -
Wound Back Or Just Act Vs Sydney Price Difference?

Oh.... Ok. That simplifies things immensely. Thanks -
Wound Back Or Just Act Vs Sydney Price Difference?
sl33py replied to sl33py's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
I mean hell, I live 10 minutes drive from work (Belconnen to Civic for those who know Canberra) and I do buggerall on the weekends and I travelled 15 thou kms last year. Some of these cars at dealers in Sydney supposedly did 55000 / 9 = 6111kms a year... I know Japan is a small place but.... as if. Pls tell me if I'm wrong. -
I'm in ACT, looking at R33's, preferably series 2 (I want ABS and preferably at least one air bag). If you go to to drive.com.au and put in nissan/skyline/sydney and look at the results, there are many cars on offer from a dealer called Japlink.com.au (you have to pess the "show dealer info" on the bottom right to see them. They are typically 96 onwards, near original condition, between 50-90 thou kms on the clock and range in price from 18-24K. Now my question is: I've heard of odometers being wound back. Been talking to a friend and he reckons the more recent imports (eg 96 on) are more likely to have been wound back than ones from 95 and earlier. Considering that the NEWEST R33 Skyline I can find from a dealer in Canberra is a 96, done 123 thou kms (not sure about the options), and is going for 23K... what does that mean? I'm probably gonna go look at the latter this weekend, but there's no way in hell I'd pay that much.. unless it's FULL optioned, i'm talking the LOT, and in great condition.. but I doubt it, because a lot of them in Canberra are not only more expensive than Sydney, but less features, more kms and older cars. It's not even: "this 96 R33 in Sydney with X features and Y kms costs 19K in Sydney and 25K in Canberra", its more like: "this 96 R33 in Sydney with X features and Y kms costs 19K in Sydney and a 94 R33 in Canberra with X-4 number of features and Y+40 thou kms costs 25K." What GIVES? Are all the Sydney ones wound back? I'd find it hard to believe they all are? They all look like good condition from the photos I can see online. Or are Canberra dealers all charging way too much? And just in case these Japlink cars are for real, has anyone had experience with them? I know ppl don't like paying out shops etc on here, so if you've had good experience, say so, and if bad, just say "I've dealt with them ..." or something equally as obvious, so I get the point. No details needed! Surely that's acceptable to everyone's morals/standpoint. I'd like to know as I'm gonna make the trip to go look and don't want to waste time at places that are renowned as dodgy. Hope to sort out my confusion... thanks in advance.

sky: I've seen lots of R32's, kits, no kits, etc. I've been eyeing off (R32-R34) Skylines for about 2 years now. It's an opinion remember... just like urs. -
When's The Next Canberra Gathering?
sl33py replied to sl33py's topic in Australian Capital Territory
lol u guys are funny Yeah I'm gonna try to stay S2. Anyone know anything about Fierce Motorsports? I'd never heard of them.. just EVO and Fast and Furious. Has anyone dealt with Japlink in Sydney? www.japlink.com.au cos they have what looks like an absolute ASS LOAD of S2 R33's. Looks like it's worth goin up and spending a whole day there if they have decent service. BTW, this is gonna sound weird, but: the 3 skylines I've test driven now, they all seemed to have huge backward and forward body roll on take offs. I drive a civic which (to me) feels like it's on rails (ignoring the understeer), but these skylines felt rather doughy and uninvolved by comparison simply cos of the roll. Is this just because A) I'm not pushing the test cars cos I don't wanna get my ass kicked) and B) I'm just used to a small buzz box now that doesn't have enough power to even break traction from a standing start or push me into my seat? -

sl33py replied to sl33py's topic in Australian Capital Territory
hahahaha stirlo I've been to that link about S1 vs S2. There's only about 5 solid facts on that page, and that's going with a "majority vote" ! I just found some more R33s on Drive.com. might check em out this weekend. I don't like the look of the R32s -
I'm about to check out an R33 without any airbags. For a car with this level performance, it's kinda sticking in the back of my mind. The rest of the car sounds fine (haven't seen it yet, will this arvo). What is everyone's thoughts on the importance of an airbag? I mean.. even my CIVIC had a driver's one.... I'm not sure, but I think I'd feel intimidated driving a car like that without one Just after a few opinions really.. Thanks. And also what should this car cost: 1994 Series 1 R33 GTS-T "M Spec" (what's the M mean? seller says slight lowering and body kit and nothing else... 99 thou kms, silver, apparently "excellent" condition (yet to see this arvo) air con, power everything, 17" rims on 235/45/R17, new clutch, 2 new tyres, factory body kit, climate control, HICAS, keyless entry + mongoose alarm, electric sunroof, always garaged, 2nd owner after importing. aftermarket exhaust, NO mods to engine or turbo ( I like that bit... I want to start with close to stock). The sunroof *may* make me forget about the airbag altogether Anyway, what do u think? I'll post more info when I get it (~3 hours time). Thanks in advance.

When's The Next Canberra Gathering?
sl33py replied to sl33py's topic in Australian Capital Territory
HAHAHA I'm constantly amazed how small the world is. Yes my mate is Farran Although.. this IS Canberra.. Anyway, he once spoke of a mate of his scaring the crap out of him going up Mount Ainslie in his skyline .. I wonder if that was maybe you!! I've smsed and PMed you Sinista32! Thanks guys. Unfortunately I have plans this friday (tomorrow) nite but should be able to make the next one. Is this meeting regular? Or maybe 3 or 4 ppl show up just once a month? Anyone else got a Skyline for sale or coming up for sale in the ACT the next coupla months? -
Hi, When's the next gathering of ACT Skylines? I heard that the National Museum is the usual site? Would u be opposed to a non-skyline driver rocking up to learn a few things? I joined this forum months ago and made a coupla posts but got distracted by that funny little thing called life.. Now the bug is biting me again and I'm planning on buying a Skyline early in the new year. I'm gonna be reading/looking at/exposing myself to whatever and whoever I can (no no! not like that ) to learn as much as I can. Then, unless I find something I like locally, I'm gonna make a few trips to Sydney to see the dealers. I'll be taking a mate of mine who put a Soarer engine in a Cressida, as he's reasonably cluey about cars. I'm not a complete dunce... but not the most knowledgeable about turbos n stuff. Anyway, I want a Series 2 R33 GTS-T, budget will be about 20K maximum. I've seen a bunch of R33s for 16-19K, but not sure if they are S1 or S2. Also hoping to get one reasonably close to stock, so I know exactly what I'm starting with, as the car I currently drive ('96 Civic CXi) , several places have told me it looks like it used to be turbo'd.. anyway long story short. Stock or stock with rim and exhaust and CAI would be ok. But nothing much past that hopefully. Not that it matters, but I want a black one Failing that white or blue. Grey is good but there's too many in canberra. Another thing I'm doing is compiling a list of differences between S1 and S2, and looking for photos or the engine bays for each, and what to look for to be SURE what the cars are when I go look at them. Cos I'm sure there's dealers that would put an S2 price on what's really an S1 car. The main reason I'm keen to go to Sydney is A) much much more choice (as many cars at once dealer as there is in ALL of Canberra) and B) (very minor reason) I'll get to drive it back on Canberra. I have budgeted for 2K insurance (altho JCI online gave me a 1700 quote), 680 for rego, 1K for unforeseen '5H1T happens' (e.g. NSW > ACT compliance screwups). So 16-19 for the car about 3.5-4K on top (hopefully). I think that's a reasonable estimate. There's a white Skyline down the street from me but I don't know them.. it's a Northside suburb with a lot of old folks homes. If u read this and it's u, maybe I could walk down the street and check it out? So yeah anyway, whens the next gathering? I want to see some of these beasts in the flesh

Gtr Vs Gtt + Opinions Of Prestige Motorsports
sl33py replied to sl33py's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
Anyone? Jeez I wish ppl would back up their opinions. This PDF: http://www.users.bigpond.net.au/strich9/nissanpdf.pdf says the GTT has a 206kW engine yet I read from another source (can't remember where) that the R34 GTT has the same engine as the R33GTST. Anyone know what is correct and can point me to where they are getting their info? -
Gtr Vs Gtt + Opinions Of Prestige Motorsports
sl33py replied to sl33py's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
Why? and where else then? There is justjap but they seem to have a very limited range in comparison. -
What's the difference between these two cars? I read on here: http://www.jpdirect.co.uk/nissan_skyline.htm that the GTT is 206kw, but that site also says the GTR is rwd so it has limited credibility I ask cos http://www.prestigemotorsport.com.au have a lot of R34 GTTs for about 25-28K, whereas the GTRs are all about 32K+ If they really are 206kw then I might consider one of them over a R33 GTST for about 17-20K. And what do you guys think of Prestige as a business? Anyone dealt with them? They seem to have the largest range of Skylines. Where else in Sydney competes? I'm keen on places that already have the cars in stock as opposed to "available to ship".. i want to go up to sydney (from canberra) and have a look at a lot of them at once, then pick. Where else should I go and look at? Also: I currently drive a Honda Civic. It rattles like a #*()%&$% How do R33 and later Skylines go as far as cabin rattles/bumps/groans etc? Thanks for any help/suggestions in advance.

Ook Oook! Thanks for the link, read it before posting here

If that's the case, I think there's even less reason to worry about purchasing interstate...

Just got back from trying a black gtst from Evo motorsports, simply to drive one and give me some starting point for comparison. The salesman seemed to treat me with respect, but when I was signing the "yes i'll be responsible for speeding tickets" papers, the boss walked in and ended up asking him "did u tell him about the rear tyres?" My ears pricked up and I'm like "... what about them??" and he proceeded to tell me it had GT-R size rear tyres and that they rub the tyre well when u push the car hard enough or if it's got a heavy load. I asked if they still had the stock rims and he said yes, so i just said i'd probly want the originals back on, if there's some issue with the rears. anyway, took it for a drive. I went "wtf is that?" at a little switch on the underside of the dash, and he told me that many imports don't have headlight dimmers and that to get complied, they all have to have them installed. Does this mean all of u have some dodgy lookin' switch sticking out of somewhere to dim the lights? Hang on..... I also test drove a private sale one this morning, and the indicator switch was MILES away from the wheel.. until I noticed it came back closer, and the guy said "oh.. i left the high beams on" so obviously there IS low and high beam built into these cars!! i wonder what that switch was supposed to be then! weird. These cars were both R33 series 1 (both did the auto passenger door lock thing). Right now, I'm put off by the local representation of dealers for imports, but that's to be expected from what's been said on here. Nevertheless, I think I'd rather buy from a dealer with a reputation to keep, than some guy/girl who might not give a rats ass. With that in mind, I'm gonna make the trip to sydney (hopefully in the next month), and hopefully get a wider impression of what's available. Bit of a shame about Evo and that black gtst, it seemed to be in very good nick, wasn't lowered, and the only other mod was the exhaust (though it was a bit of a tooth rattler.. i'd hate that for long trips), and the cruddy too-large rear tyres. They were 17's. Is this scraping/rubbing something that happens to all tyres that big? I think they said it was teh thickness that made it rub, cos the tyres was just +1's.. no change to overall diameter. With respect to going over the pits, if I find a very close to stock r33, eg not lowered, or only a little bit, and the exhaust done (but quieter than 90dB), then surely I could bank on it easily passing through dickson? (since as others have pointed out, it will most likely have to go over those particular pits if it's coming interstate). I wanna find out about the dimmer switch rubbish that guy was talking about.. can anyone verify this? Thanks.

Uh can u say hijack? Surely there's a better thread for mate!
-
Sorry mate, too many mods, I'm after as stock as possible. It's too low for me, and ppl have told me hks bov's are for the sound. Thanks all the same
