R33 Manuel Conversion
gts25t4door replied to nismo z-tune's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
I looked into it and it was VERY VERY expensive to convert it to a 6 speed. It was actually cheaper to go to a 6 speed toyota box then to go with a nissan one. I wanted to upgrade from the Auto too but I went for a ride in an R33 with a "tricked up" auto box with a manual valve body and it launched harder then most of the manual ones I have been in (keeps boost through gear changes). It would be cheaper to rebuild the auto and then to convert it to a manual. But if you really want to convert it then you will need lots of new items. Make a list first of all the new parts needed to convert it over. Here are a few things you will need; Gearbox Gearbox crossmember Tailshaft pedal assembley clutch master cylinder clutch slave cylinder clutch flywheel bell housing center console dash cluster computer some fluid lines manual spigot bush I dont think that this is all but the majority of the parts needed, best of getting a manual box that you know is good, maybe a recent rebuilt one or a new recond one. hope that helps -
If there are any left please let me know. Cheers Chris

To run the RCAs from the front to the back all the skirting on the inside of the car unclips and lifts up. Now to get the RCAs from the back seat to the boot is a bit tricky, what you need is a unravled wire coat hanger or some wire. On the side of the seat pull it away from the edge of the door and stick the coat hanger/ wire through so it reaches the boot (it took me about an hour to achieve this so it may take a while) now make a loop in the wire and make sure that it is fairly tight around the RCAs and pull it through from the boot. It is not a quick task but is extremely dificult. Now clip all the skirting back together and it should look like nothing is running under it.

The amps do have seperate gain controls for each channel. You can bridge one channel and leave the other channel standard to make it a "3 channel" amp. I would suggest that you wire the duel voice coiled sub in series. This is achieved by connecting the + of the amp to the + of one voice coilst then connect the - of the amp to the - of the other voice coil, then connect the - and the + of the 2 voice coils together. This will drop the current draw down to 2 ohms which will give the amp less resistance and therefore give yo umore power output. I would reccomend the Response AA0425 (4x100wrms) as it is a full digital amp and will use less power to create the same output and lots less heat. It is also smaller and will fit neater beside the battery in yor car. Because the model of Kenwood head deck has a dedicated subwoofer RCA preout you can use this amp with the head deck. It is all fairly straight forward hooking it all up. I sware by the Jaycar Response gear it is the best bang for buck mobile audio equipment available today (and no I dont work for Jaycar or Response). Good luck Chris

I dont know any "rules of thumbs" but I can say that you are right if you have a 1000W sub and run it with 160w then it can do damage to the amp and therefore damaging your sub. Cause you will need to run the amp harder to power the sub so it will start to clip. What you need to do is get a sub that handles a similar power to your amp. ie, if you have a amp that is rated at 160w RMS then you would really want to run it with the gain turned down a bit to reduce clipping so you would get a sub that is rated at about 200 - 300w RMS as 140w RMS or so would power it all day and would sound good. I would still recomend that you 4x100 amp, not only will the splits respond better it will give you more bass from the sub as it will technically have twice the power as the 4x50. But get what you can afford dude, after all you are purchasing it, either way it will work. Box size is important and so is the design of the box. Always offset your sub in the box so it is not in the center (this stops noise cancellation) and talk to the person selling you the sub and get thespeaker specs and the ideal box dimensions. I have a sealed sub box that is 800x400x300 and it pumps. I am not suggesting that you make your box this size but make sure when making sub boxes that you base your box on the specs on the sub driver, as this should give you the best sound. I suggest a sealed box wuold be best for smaller boxes like you are after, line it with dacron (not sure on the spelling) to make it think it is in a larger box. Anyother questions just pm me. Chris

I have used the full Jaycar amp range and they kick ass, the 4x50w may not cut it, I would suggest the 4x100w jaycar response amp. I have used this amp on many occasions and it will power a set of splits and smallish sub perfect. Sub wise I would suggest that you just get a boxed sub from Autobarn or WOW or JBHiFi, just a cheap one is all you really need, as it wont be powered by a huge amp. Somthing like a cheap pioneer or even lightning audio will give a good sound. My current setup in my car cost less then a grand and it kicks ass. Its not the cost of the gear that you use, its how you set it up. Chris

Sorry guys, I cant make it, I have to play tennis. (as I need the exercise) -
I am working on my VC Valiant project, my project it to get it road worthy and get it out of my front yard. I was seriously thinking of an RB30/25 turbo conversion, but way too much money for me to spend. I had the head and the block plus all manifolds and loom, but then I had to get seatbelts, and lots of interior parts to accomidate the transmission and center console. Its cheaper to sell it and with the money spend it on my R33 4 door, so "Project R33 4Door" will be starting in a month or 2. My plans; FMIC Turbo back 3" exhaust HI Flow standard turbo Manual shift kit for the Auto Auto Trans overhaul & stall converter Not sure on the ECU yet but maybe Emanage Ultimate?? 550cc injectors and Fuel pump Hoping for around 230rwkw

Where To Buy Trust Exhaust From In Brisbane?
gts25t4door replied to gts25t4door's topic in Queensland
Thanks Col -
I am looking to install a cat back trust/Blitz ect.. exhaust system in the next few weeks, and I am looking where to buy them from, I have seen a Trust Power Extreme II cat back at autobarn for $799 and I was wondering if anyone knew of a place selling them cheaper in Brisbane. I am getting cat back at the moment due to an exhaust leak and will upgrade the rest (ie. front dump pipe and cat) at a later date. I was also wondering if trust Blitz or HKS makes a twin 2.5" exhaust tip instead of the 5" or 6" tip I have searched and cant find any real specific answers.

Would You Buy Your Child A Car?
gts25t4door replied to HannahMc's topic in General Automotive Discussion
My parents bought be a VC Valiant for my first car. It was $1500 and was registed. I have since paid for everything else to do with the car. It also tought me not to thrash my car as it will break (and it did..many many many times), I still have the "old beast" and even though I have purchased my Skyline. I have learned lots by having an old car and has given me basic mechanical knowledge that I will continue to build on with future cars. I think that parents should help you with buying the car and then its up to you what you do with it. Chris -
No idea, I just got them off yellowpages.com.au, I have heard that Albion Wheel Repairs do a good job.
