Automatic Transmission Shift Kit. - Updated Oct 2006
Fastrotor replied to 4door_Sleeper's topic in Group Buys
I'd be keen for a 2800 rpm stall (3200 actual) . So long as the lockup still works no probs... that would be perfect ! Gary -

abo bob what stall speed did they set it too ? I've just got my hiflow done and also the suspension kit from sydneykids GB, so its all going in soon as i get time. only thing else i can think to do then is a stall upgrade.... about 3000 would be nice , maybe a tad more. i can get to about 2200 now and then wheels start turning. The only premise is that the lock up has to still work, as i dont want to be slipping that much more when crusing. Does your lockup work good still ? Gary -
Mspec Front Bars!
Fastrotor replied to heyhey!'s topic in For Sale (Private Car Parts and Accessories)
Well i picked up the bar a few days ago and just took the wrapping off today, and wow, my very own Mspec R33 bar. Had a crack at the bottom as explained, but shame you failed to mention it was part of a plastic repair that went all the way around and the crack is just following the opriginal damage, also the rest of the bar from behind looks like frankenstein with all the plastic weld scars... this thing has obviously hit a pole and had major repairs.... most joins are showing small cracks appearing already. Your version of "good condition" is obviously a far cry from mine......... this piece of crap is going in the bin, not on my pristine car. Im so glad the r33 reo bar is in good nic, at least one good point. Back to the search for a good one....sheezz End rant. -
Hi Guys, My stuff arrived today. Nice big job for after Christmas. Would like to thank Gary very much for his time and effort put into running this group buy, and for the engineering that went into this kit also. Could you wish for a better forum member ! Merry Christmas to all, have a safe one ! Gary

Fs - Stock Rb25/vg30 Bb T3 Turbo
Fastrotor replied to its.not.ali's topic in For Sale (Private Car Parts and Accessories)
Well im sad to report this guy is a Bad trader, partly. Bought the turbo for $400 + freight, arrived no probs etc Open the box, all there, look at turbo, yep shaft play as in post, then i flip it over to look at turbine..... and find its got chunks missing out of the blades... Ie .. its Stuffed ...... So i put turbine housing in vice and loosen the bolts, center spins easily indicating it has been previously removed (anyone who has pulled turbos apart will know it takes alot of effort with a soft faced hammer , loosening the bolts as you go so as not to let it fly off and damage the wheel, to get apart once they have been run for abit) Took the photo below. Anyway i gave him the chance to respond, his responce to me saying there were chunks missing was, "i put everything i had in the box" ... then i posted this pic to him showing what i meant, and got no responce.... Next day i asked for $100 back to cover damage, $300 is pretty good for a stuffed turbo !, but still no responce. So all i can do is post this and warn others...... such a shame. Other than this , the transaction went smooth etc Gary -

The Blitz Kit is pretty exxy, but i guess were in the time of really cheap chinese kits. The first and formost thing on my mine , is , Will the blitz kit bolt up with out cutting anything ? I dont mind so much if i have to trim a little bit of the plastic spoiler , but i will not ever cut a reo bar or remove it (id like insurance to actually work when i need it!) Mine is a R33 GTST sedan. Can anyone give advice ? Gary
-
Not one person here has done this ???
-
I'd be keen to know if the 33GTR front and reo is a bolt on Propostion to the GTST S1 as well... I've just hit a roo, and the mspec and reo need replacing... i figured fitting one of these (although i kinda prefer the mspec look) would allow front mount cooler fittment without cutting the stock reo bar, which isnt an option whatsoever. I see Zoom put the GTR front on there 4 door GTST for same reason, so i assume it works ? Can anyone confirm please. Gary

Just incase you didn't get my PM, i'll grab the exhaust manifold and heatshield thanks. Gary.

I'll take one std 4" non bolt on for $210 please. Gary

Just an update to what turned out to be a problem. The drama of the car hitting boost but not going hard until 3000 rpm was actually a fault. The fuel pump switching was causing it, fuel pressure barely stayed at 40 psi when boost got to 10 psi... then at 3000 rpm, it jumped up to 50 odd and away you went. So for now i wired it on permanent, until i get around to installing a new pump. Responce is ALOT better off the line now. I'll head out to the drags soon for an update, hopefully into the 13's. Gary.

Yeah same GTT cooler as well. People mention how cheap front mounts are, which is true, but noone mentions the stuff SydneyKid mentions though. A few guys recently posted of there woes fitting them..... and frankly i HATE cutting up my car, especially when the sidemount does the job adequately. Gary

Yeah that was my asumption too, there just a blue version of a new coil basically...... there are minor diferences in the primary resistance, and also the core seems to be two E cores instead of all joined together. (ie the metal former is not joined on the sides) I assumed this when buying them, but since there new and cheaper than nissan, there the ones to get. I would think all the guys who report more power have old coils starting to break down internally , and worst case externally arcing onto the coil brackets. Only way i'd believe these are better is run a car on brand new nissan ones till it was blowing the spark out at a certain gap, then swap these in.... but i doubt there would be any gain on new coils. For interests sake i also tested the secondary current of some other coils . gtst - 1.4ma bosch mec 718 2.1ma S4 rx7 trailing 2.9 ma ! Gary
-
If its any interest to anyone, i've tested my std gtst old coils and the new splitfires, and aside from the primary winding resistance being .6 ohms against the stock ones .7 ohms, the secondary coil current is the same as the stock old ones(1.4ma). Also the spark gap they will jump is also the same.......(18mm) This was using a set frequency coil tester, around 50 - 60 hz odd...... for 9000 rpm the freq would be 75 hz, so pretty close. stock coil might drop off abit at high freq, but i dont think its as much as they seem to indicate. Anyone else done testing to argue otherwise ? Gary

Thanks for the info Gary. I don't know how old the shocks are, but car has 122,000 on it , so i assume they have been replaced by now. I'll get under the car and check how close it is to the bump stops and see what they look like. I know getting the bilsteins is the right thing to do, my wallet just needed to be convinced. On the subject of suspension, have you ever played with S4 rx-7 stuff ?? Of course i can pm you if you have, since this is a nissan forum ! Gary

Gary, I went and measured my car up and its 330mm front and 340mm rear. I was told when i purchased the car that kings springs had been fitted. I assume these would be there super low ones. The car is a pain in the butt to drive anywhere that isnt dead flat, you have to take every driveway at quite an angle (sometimes space limits this ) and hence its getting quite a few hits on the mspec front. the 20mm raise alone would be worth it from my point of view, but assuming these are the kings 'super lows ' or whatever there called, how do your spec springs compare in the rate area ? More or less ? One last thing, will those springs work with the std shocks ok ? or will i be that much more impressed with the bilsteins ride quality to warrant them ?( i do the odd street meet here and there, and mainly just street drive it daily) Gary

What Happened In The Magic Vs Catco Thing?
Fastrotor replied to noise's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
If you took this cat and put it on a factory setup that was all working correctly, then it will work fine. My point was that you cant just whack any cat on a car thats running a bad tune, ie not at stoic at low power (read dead o2 sensor etc) and expect the emissions to be perfect, tuning of the motor (in the case of aftermarket) , and general condition of it all play a large part for the cat to give valid results (read legal). What Happened In The Magic Vs Catco Thing?
Fastrotor replied to noise's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
I've put one on my 33 gtst, and then did a 4 gas analyser test on it, and it was working fine. Test was done with car purring along as low speed, making about 10kws on dyno until results stabilised. Test unit was a Protech FLUX 2000 (ver 7.82) HC was 0 Co was 0 C02 was 12.4% No 861 ppm Nox 947 ppm AFR 14.7:1 (as indicated by test unit and also dyno) If the cat wasnt working the HC and Co levels would have been up alot. Also, everyone has to remember, you dont just whack a cat on a car and it magically (no pun intended!) cleans it up perfectly. Tuning has ALOT to do with it, timing as well as fueling. On my results, the No & Nox could have come down by playing with the timing . Also even for just basic go/no go testing , sitting on the dyno tuning it at 10:1 levels, and your eyes arnt watering and it smells clean.......... anyone who has tuned cars on a dyno can tell you what its like, that rich, without a cat.......... especially rotaries. Thanks Abo Bob, Thats a bloddy good 60'. Were you stalling off the line or just stabbing it . ? whats a 34 stall to factory, and is yours factory ? Are you saying you only went from 13.8 to 13.5 with the adition of the highflow ? wouldn't you be expecting more .... obviously you lost .2 off the line.... still. How did the mph difer ? Trying to stall mine us was the worst launch of all..... was best to just stab it full, ease off (turbo seems to spool quicker when throttle 1/4 open or there abouts), then full again.
-
Ah, ok the GCG highflow would help. I've got a Vg30 turbo on the way , and i already have a t04 vtrim and mazda comp housing to suit from the rx-7's previous incarnation highflow. So hopefully with that together i might be able to scrape 12's . What 60's were you getting ? Mine were 2.4 Gary
