  1. Yeah i agree man... not on one of these babies anyway... I just used a hose, but next time i'll be being very particular to where water goes!
  2. Doh... didn't look at the date... Your AV comment says it all  Made you look
  3. I had the very same problem... they couldn't have built better wells if they tried! I think they made an attempt to water proof the valley where the plug sit, but it wasn't a very good one... Lesson Learnt!
  4. http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/sh...ight=r32+manual It's the R32 gtr workshop manual, but there's still heaps in there relating to all models
  5. Success! Thanks blind elk, and to the R32 gtr manual i found on the forum... For some wierd (and bloody annoying) reason if you search for pbr, you wont get any results.... This thread - http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/fo...read.php?t=5589 - pretty much sums it up. If PBR comes up, it means the the servo that actuates the heat/cool diverter door hasn't reached the desired opening. So my suspicions were correct, it was related. You can see the servo quite easily by looking in towards the heater from the drivers side. Instead of pulling it apart, which i was planning to do as the guy in that thread had had success with, I pretty much accidentally got it working by just pushing on the lever one way and the other to see if it would move... and it did!!! hooray!!! I now have climate control! It must have just jammed up from lack of use, and all it needed was a bit of coaxing. i then adjusted the temp from high to low and lubricated all the moving parts till i was satisfied with it's operation. It might pay to remove the diverter flap actuator bar from the servo while playing with this, just to make things a bit easier. I ended up pulling the whole thing out and giving it a good hit with lube everywhere i could. The Pbr fault comes up still, but as it turns out, to satisfy the self diagnosis, the flap has to be opened at 40%. so if you can still get hot and cold, dont stress about seeing the fault. another little thing to know, if you get a minus sign in front of any of your numbers ie -26 , that indicates a short, (or overload) which now that I know that, would also point to a stuck servo. My sunlight sensor fault cleared as soon as i... well... put it in sunlight So now my only problem is the ambient air temp sensor. Putting a multimeter across it, it works fine, but the fault still comes up. But i'm not that phased, as i dont think it has that big of a bearing on the climate control operation. So now I'm one happy, warm, camper! Just read that link Jolinator - bloody good find!
  6. That blowing sound through the filter gives me the shiyats... can only just hear the turbo spooling over it! gonna try this mod, hopefully i dont get the problems others have had...
  7. I did a search and couldn't find it.... That be why i am asking.
  8. God sake people!!! Someone must know what this is! It's driving me batty!
  9. forever, so long as you visit occasionally ie once per month or so. I think if you donate it is permanent. Or you could post the pdf (too?)
  10. I would have to disagree with you there, I'm under the impression that water ALWAYS flows through the core, and the only thing that controls temperature is the flap diverting air to/away from the heater core. Unless there is some kind of valve attached at the motor end of the heater core hoses hoses, is there? That's for the '33 anyway, it may be different again on the 32's? If you remove the hoses at the fire wall, all you are dealing with is the core, there are no valves between the inlet and outlet. Yeah I'm not sure just how effective radiator flush products are, but I can assure you 0.5%caustic works a treat. I work in a chemical plant where the stuff is readily available, so it makes it a bit easier to get a hold of the good stuff! I soaked it 3 times about 10 minutes a time, then hit it with high pressure water, pulsing by kinking etc... the water was deep reddish brown during each flush, so it musta been doin something! by the final soak not one bit of debris came out, and the flow increase was huge!
  11. So let me get this straight... He WONT go for a ride with you cause he THINKS it's too dangerous... So, um, how many major accidents have you had? On what does he base this assumption on, and that's all it is, an assumption. If he bases it on his own experiences when he raced, then he's grossly misinformed, cause you'd be crazy to even suggest that motor racing is even 1/10th as dangerous as it was in his day. Obviously a case of him being over protective of his "little girl", He obviously has his mind made up, regardless of the truth, and the only reason he doesn't want to go for a run is because he knows the chances are high of you proving his one eyed stance wrong. Do what you feel is the right thing to do! It's your family, not his, and if your wife hasn't had a problem thus far, then there IS no problem. He has a right to an opinion, but he also has a right to be wrong
  12. EXC - Try www.photobucket.com Free and plenty of space
  13. correcto :-) but it's not necessarily the only reason... There is a flap in the heater box controlled by the climate control that diverts air to or away from the heater element. ATM it's not working... but the element DEFINATELY needed flushing
  14. I DO have a viper alarm... you could be right.... At the moment the siren goes off it's banana unless you have the disable key in it.... washed the engine bay out this morning, must have some kind of short... hopefully it will clear eventually!
  15. You want gutter journalism, turn to Today Tonight!!! I haven't watched ACA for a while now, but when I did, at least the stories were at least in part credible.
  16. Right, so three of my sensors are faulty, which I am going to check today Outside temp sensor Sunlight load sensor PBR What the Fark is a PBR? anyone? I have also found that the heater element wasn't the only reason my heater wasn't working - the diverter flap that sends air to the heater is also not working - hopefully it is related to the faulty sensors, and hopefully the faulty sensors are just disconnected or something! I will keep you posted!
  17. Well instead of going the expensive and painful route of pulling the dash out and replacing the heater element, seeing as mine wasn't leaking, and I'm a cheap lazy bastard, I flushed the element with weak caustic, and it worked!!! I will write a how to in coming days if demand is strong enough, but basically it's as simple as getting 2 pieces of clear hose around a metre in length, connecting them to the inlet and outlet, obtaining a caustic based cleaner (or radiator flush!), and alternating between the chemical and water, until you get nothing but clean water flowing out of the element. just use a bit of common sense, ie backflushing, etc, and you should be set. Oh and try not to get any chemical on your paint work, or shiny alloy bits! When you're flushing, it's a good idea to blow out the chemical/water with air first (I literally "blew" through it with my mouth, just wash off the top of the hose before you do this) as the chemical will react with water. Just how much, I'm not sure, but it's best to be on the safe side. Make sure you wash the crap off you until that soapy feeling goes away - that's the caustic reacting with the fat in your skin, making it slippery! Anyhoo so after about 3 soakings with the caustic solution (0.5% caustic solution, dont use any stronger!) and a good blast through both ways with the garden hose, pulsing it by kinking it etc, until nothing else came out, and then flushing once more for good measure, the flow went from feeling like blowing through a maccas straw, to being able to put a bit less than full hose flow through it! So it can be done!!! and still no leaks in the cabin, i'm stoked!
  18. I did a search on here and couldn't find this valuable source of information!!! So here it is, so it can be found with a search! http://www.ii.net/~robi/skylinebook.pdf or here http://www.meggala.com/book.html
  19. I have the precise opposite problem... do a dignostic on it, see if any of your sensors are faulty, as per "the sky is the limit" booklet you can D/L from here somewhere... mine has a few faulty sensors, which i am going to try and nut out today. you will find on the bottom tight hand corner of you heater (looking in at it through the driver side footwell) a solenoid/controller thingy, with a bar leading off to the left, which controls the flap that diverts air to/away from the heater element. you will find that this will not move, no matter what you do with the climate control. If you disconnect the bar you will be able to divert the air which ever way you want - this was a big relief to me after ****ing around all day flushing my heater element seemingly to no avail. I disconnected the bar and pushed it, and hooray!!! hot air!!! Do a diagnostic, try and fix any faulty sensors and see how you go.
  20. hey Andrew, sounds like you've got the bug worse than me! I'm 27 and this is my first skyline, but i've wanted one ever since godzilla beat them on the mountain. Mate, let me tell ya, that is one awesome piece of machinery you are buying! I took one for a test drive, man they just feel like a decked out race car! I love em but i bauked a bit at the age of em, so the '96 it was for me! Yeah mate, about panorama, it's actually not a track, but a normal road.. of sorts... People live in houses up there and stuff, so yeah you can just drive right on it! apparently they like to set speed cameras up around it, so just go for a couple of laps to see if you can spot any! the only place i really gave it stick was down conrod, but i only wound it out in 4th... didn't want to tempt fate too much! It's heaps different than it looks on tv... just the angles of the corners and stuff, alot tighter than you'd expect! I did the old jack-up-the-front trick the other day, to see what height would still look good, and be legal, and it turns out that i can be 20mm above legal minimum, and that's when the car looks balanced. It's actually riding too low in the front at the moment, I've heard around the traps that you can only lower '33's so much before it's detrimental to the suspension... so it's a win win really! It just so happens that I live 2 hrs from Dobinsons (BIG spring company), so I'm getting a custom set made. Usually, the front and rear sit at the same height, where as currently mine is sitting 25mm lower at the the front than it should be, if it is to be equal with the rear. The front end has waaaaay more stick that the rear so I dont think i'll have too much of a problem handling wise! and I wont have to bloody cringe every time theres a small hump I have to drive over! Enjoy your GTR mate!! be sure to post lots a pics!
  21. typical of the QLD government.... cant make it easy to do anything! I just dont want my car hung up for anylonger than usual cause of somethin stupid like, "well you have *insert stupidly complex for roadworthy, expensive and time consuming part here* wrong" Gods sake, I even have to travel 60k's to get some wiper blades! I love it here... I'll call the local guy and see if he'll help me out. Cheers guys. If anyone can think of anything else just post it here
  22. Anyone else only getting the dreaded red x's in all but the first post? dammut!!!
  23. Does the gts 4 sport the gtr drivetrain? now that would be a nice sleeper! For some reason i'm under the impression that they only came in a 4 door... true?
