Hi guys, I recently purchased race pistons from MAHLE designed for hard abuse on the RB25DET... i took standard bore pistons and slightly honed the block... at first when I received the pistons they seemed very good and the pistons rings are amazlingly strong... they also have some special coating on them... Now the bad points: 1) Due to them being race pistons, they are not fully round... dont know the right english term for it, but their surface on the side only has around 50% contact with the cylinder wall, which means that when pistons and oil are cold, that they have an extreme knock since they "tilt" from left to right... 2) thanks god that I installed the first piston as a test and spun the crankshaft to check all clearances... what happened? the MAHLE pistons do not have a housing for our stock RB25 oil squirters and mine broke off... this seemed kind of strange to me, since the pistons itself is designed to support the oilsquirters... so i had to replace the broken one and really customize the other squirters and the pistons themselves in order to make both fit in the block... very time consuming and unnecessary work for pistons which where build to go into the RB25... everything fitted, checked the clearances and started the engine (hopefully leaving the oil squirters alive)... very loud "tack tack tack" noise from the pistons... lets the engine run for 30min to get the right temperature... once oil temp passed 80degrees, the knock from the piston reduced quite a bit... after 500 KM of hard driving, the compression is straight 10 across the board so the pistons seem to be doing their job... well, hope this could be of some help, and i suggest that you go with wisecos or something like that, cause otherwise you will have to do quite a bit of fusing around to make the Mahle pistons work...

Considering Selling My Apexi Pfc Pro

Europe Austria -
hi there, i am thinking of selling my PFC PRO version with handcontroller in mint condition... it's for a R33 RB25DET... not sure for which series, because it managed to run sI and sII coils... since its doing a good job, i just want to see what sort of $$$ i can get for it, because I might take the Motec route since I will set up for multiple injectors and drag strip... so please post reasonable and "realistic" offers here or write me a PM ... thanks!

anybody? what good alternatives for the overpriced datalogit to run on a PFC PRO ?? :? thanks... Nico
-
sorry but i cannot find it on yahoo auctions... my japanese is a bit rusty lets say, i get this cable, you recon that i can then use for example the FC Tune to tune my PFC Pro with it? or what other software shall i get? Thanks, Nico
-
and what about 3) and 4) ? no good?
-
which one you recon is the most affordable and where can i purchase it?? and will it work with this FC Tune? Thanks for the help paul... Nico
-
i have a PowerFC PRO for my RB25DET... and there is a connect option which says Adapter -> FC PRO ... so can i connect my PFC PRO to the laptop with just a cable and without the datalogit box??? if so, does anyone know where can i quickly purchase this thing? Thanks! Nico
-
because all tuners that i have spoken to, are either too scared/dont feel comfortable of working with the H/C, or dont want to use any other software than the one they know... there is really nobody in the whole of Austria who has tuned a PFC before... its really beginning to piss me off slowly... the season is 3/4 finished already, and i am still running at half the potential that the engine can give... its really annoying/depressing... and i dont have the money to pay someone to come from ie. england and tune this f**kin* thing for me... i thought of trying myself maaany times... i have a good wideband tool (wbo2) with brand new wideband and have already taken all signals from the ECU that are needed for tuning... but if you havent done something before, you have certain concerns... especially if i blow this engine, it will a) cost me a fortune and b) if the block goes boom, i will have to fuss with finding parts for another year... and i want to drive my car... but if my PFC PRO has this 78f4 CPU, then why does it have this socket for an EPROM??? thx! ps: if you want better picts of the ECU, i can make some with my digital camera in better quality...
-
alright... thx for the input... BUT here is something for the real pro's : now i have found a tuner near me who has an emulator and he told me that if i get him a chip/eprom that fits into my PFC slot which is free (see pict), he can tune my car with his emulator and software that he can really do wonders with (ie. 1.8l audi TT with 512 HP) ... now there are 2 questions: 1) is the PFC PRO compatible with any chip/eprom from a RB25DET engine? 2) will this eprom be able to boot by itself and replace the processor functions? i am aware that "chipping" the PFC will disengage the normal functions of the H/C and tuning the processor of the PFC with the H/C, since the eprom will replace the processor function... Quick Question On Engine Internals
T-u-R-b-O replied to T-u-R-b-O's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
hmm... makes sense... so pratically its do-able, but i wont be able to use my block again, and will need to machine down 1mm from the block... correct? thx! -
Quick Question On Engine Internals
T-u-R-b-O replied to T-u-R-b-O's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
aha ok... so I can use 87mm Wisecos from RB26 and GTR Rods on my RB25 block with crank dont you think that instead of having to machine 1mm of the block (see attached pict) away, it would be easier using a 1,6mm cometic head gasket? isnt that an alternative? Thanks for helping guys -
Quick Question On Engine Internals
T-u-R-b-O replied to T-u-R-b-O's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
hmm... this is bad news... i am about to buy RB26 rods with RB26 87mm Bore Wisecos on them... so you are saying that they will not fit on my RB25 block?? what if i use a 1.6mm cometic HG? is there actually any chance of these RB26 fitting onto my RB25 crank? THanks! Nico -
hi there! just a quick question... i am about to purchase a set of wiseco pistons with 87mm bore on GTR rods removed from an RB26 block, and was wondering whether my RB25 block can take these parts? and if so, how much HP/boost can I push due to the thinner cylinder walls? or wont this have any effect? thanks guys, Nico
-
hmm... do they tune their cars also with PowerFC >>?? obviously there are some GTS skylines around (in germany i think there are 2), but none of them are really tuned... maybe a filter, exhaust or so.. i also have the RB25 swapped into the 200sx with maybe not "unique", but pretty rare... and sweden is i think over 3.ooo km away from vienna... to drive there with a none optimized engine will be pretty shit... i am really curious how those people who think that tuning with H/C is faster do it... from my haltech tuning experience, i found seeing the entire map was much more comfortable and i had more overview of things... the H/C is so unhandy, no overview, map trace sucks, cant make the ventilator run etc... a shame that the PFC doesnt come with the laptop software to run it like AEM for example...
-
simple yes, BUT i am probably the only one who drives an RB25DET in Europe (except england)... there is nobody within a radias of ~5000km who has worked with a PFC or even seen a RB25 in natura... thats the problem with doing/having something unique...
-
sorry, but i cant hold it back anymore... man, i thought that i would be a smart ass, and safe some money if i buy a PFC instead of a Haltech or Motec... So i went off and spend ~600 euro (~1000 AUD) on a PFC PRO with handcontoller... all nice so far; direct plug and play and the car started immediatley... after having done all the necessary hardware on the engine to push for around 500hp ( 367kw or ~320rwkw), i went on the road for some tuning... plugged in my wideband and had the H/C ready... i researched a lot on the net of how to tune this stupid ECU with the H/C, but can tell you that its only good for maybe tuning fuel economy... for tuning the engine under heavy load, the PFC with only the H/C is simply SHIT! i have worked with haltech and laptop software before and its much easier and takes a loooot less time... how do u guys do it with this stupid map tracer function? you do a run, log all components and have the map tracer activated... now the shitty thing is that the map tracer cannot diplay the cells that you used within the INJ/IGN maps directly... the question now is, how do you memorize the cells that you used... write all of them by hand or what??? thats really time consuming and seems a rather stupid thing to do... i ended up doing picts of the map trace with my mobile phone and then going back into the IGN/INJ menu to make changes... basically, i am fed up of having to use this H/C and dont want to ruin my engine because of it, and also dont have 100 hours for writing down cells... so, does any1 know where to get something like the datalogit but not at a price of ~570 AUD incl. shipment ... are there any alternatives? or do you know someone who sells theirs second hand? thanks, Nico

dont we all have our own "private" highways ... what diff you suggest? i remember hearing something that auto diff tend to be longer? thx, Nico
-
Hi guys, I have finally complete my RB25DET swap and got it tuned to 0.7bar ... i have swapped the complete RB25DET inkl. gearbox, and full rear end (incl. the stock RB25 diff) ... last friday i took the car to the highway, and measured with GPS a top speed on only 248 km/h @ 6850 RPM... how can i make it go more (except upping the RPM) ? is that possible? maybe changing the transmission for 5th gear only to make it longer? or different diff? what expenditures? thx, Nico
-
anyone?
-
what about this type of setup using one of these small filters? cause like this the catch can doesnt seem to be all that neccessary... the few oil drops once in a while wont be so dramatic... what u guys think?

yup, u got PM ... maybe it'll be interesting for other wbo2 users here to know the pin outputs that you had send me... values contain RPM, AFM, TPS, Water Temp and few others... would be good to have the pin layout from factory ECU on here for logging information... Nico
