  1. As we know, most people are guesstimating that the next GT-R will have a 3.8L twin turbo V6 in it. Guess what the new Nismo Z33 FairladyZ 380RS is being powered by? Its the HR engine (dual entry intake, convenient for TT setups) and 3.8L. Its non-turbo, but interesting nonetheless.............
  2. I like 'roo Valley. I should be coming along. If its cool to bring non forum members along, I might invite some other drivers who've never done Kangaroo Valley before to see if they want to experience the fun.
  3. *starts singing* Look to the left, look to the right, look to the left again. Then if the road is clear of traffic walk straight across the road (don't run!) walk straight across the road.
  4. And, there goes Godwin's.
  5. It would seem that I may be right on this one. From this article on SMH: Given how much attention Robert Wells' son attracted, I'm sure the newspaper would have mentioned him specifically if he didn't agree with some of the recommendations (after all, they made specific mention of him in formulating and being invited onto the panel despite is dubious qualifications). I fail to see how that's unreasonable. How are people going to get home if their mates can't legally drive them? They can try pay for a cab (unlikely) or do a runner after catching one, or they can drink drive. Pretty much all the options you leave the kids, short of stopping them from going out, puts them in a situation where they have to decide if they'll break the law or severely inconvenience themselves. Now which one do you think your young, dumb, and full of c....booze teenagers is going to pick? Then, assuming that you can pile 4 guys into a car, these passenger restrictions means that you'll double the number of P platers on the road. Probability says that the number of accidents that will occur must increase, especially if you do nothing to mitigate the other contributing factors to accidents. And, lets face it, these cock heads are doing nothing else aside from these band-aid solutions targetting a politically disenfranchised (and therefore relatively powerless) subsection of the community. Then again, the Wells kid did die in a car pooling situation. So since it happened to one bunch of kids, and nobody knows that pain quite like Robert Wells, the entire system must be flawed right?
  6. Yeah, I understand. That woman and child didn't choose to do something stupid. And I'm all for personal choice (obviously). But most of these "hoons" tend to wipe themselves out. And if you can put them all in one car, instead of killing 2 people with one car you can kill 4-5. And John Howard is always telling us to be more productive and labour efficient......
  7. The VQ35HR has only been on the market for a few months, so I very much doubt it too.
  8. Or perhaps a punchline out of an 80's TV sitcom? "What choo talkin' 'bout Willis?" "Aye carumba" "Cowabunga" etc?
  9. Time to play devil's advocate.... What makes those lives worth saving? In the past the "four horsemen" (disease, famine, war, death) were nature's way of controlling the population. Just like when any animal species over-breeds into plague proportions, eventually they strive for resources and end up killing each other or dying out. However, humans succeed in every living creatures' quest to extend their life. We have medicine against disease, we generally improve yields from our food sources above what nature generally offers, we're not killing each other as much as we used to, and the average lifespan is increasing. And, of course, we're legislating people against themselves. Natural selection could be a fifth horseman (or perhaps divide "Death" into "Old age / accidental" and "self inflicted"), and we're starting to fight against that too. We evidently can't make them any smarter, so we're just wrapping them in cotton wool and babying them instead. Does humanity, as a species, need the propagation of the traits that don't tell people that doing 200km/hr down a residential street that happens to have dips and crests, and telegraph poles nearby, is a dangerous thing? I'm not saying that someone should decide whether certain people are worthy of living or not, and then starting a progrom against "lesser races". All I'm saying is that maybe we should let people decide for themselves if they possess the intelligence or desire to not kill themselves, and letting probability take care of the rest.
  10. I didn't get a chance to see your hekticity on YouTube before you took it down, but I can't say I've ever popped an engine. And I know I've definitely never filmed myself being a retard and broadcast it to a publicly available space. Perhaps you should look up the word "hypocrite" before you start throwing it around. Or the word "all". Because you've got at least one of the two mixed up. You enjoy destroying your own property to entertain others? I'm sure quite a few SAU guys would love to watch you punch yourself in the face and break your nose. Please post the URL to the YouTube clip when you've done it kthx If you didn't care, you wouldn't be replying.
  11. There is, however, one thing I don't get: I don't understand why Robert Wells was appointed to the panel. Is he a road safety expert? An automotive engineer? The only car-related qualifications I can see is that he raised a son who failed to survive in a car. And now he's responsible for ensuring that other people's sons and daughters survive in cars. The fact that failing at doing something means you should be able to advise the government on it just goes to show how stupid the modern world is. Next thing you know the government will put Jayant Patel on the Medical Review Board. Robert Wells has got no business on that panel, aside from political grandstanding. The man can't bring an objective and reasoned view to discussions. He's (justifiably) biased by his own loss, but all he's going to do is bring emotion, ignorance and paternal guilt to a topic that requires things he doesn't have: cognitivity and knowledge in the area. He's no better an advisor than the similarly-unqualified Howard Scruby.
  12. And, because its not that gutter trash tabloid know as the Daily Telegraph, the SMH has contacted a "young driver" for a balanced perspective on it:
  13. If they make it "one strike and you're out", then in terms of how it affects your license there's no longer any difference between doing 0-15km/hr over the limit, or doing 30-45km/hr over the limit. There's an old saying that there's no-one more dangerous than someone who has nothing to lose.
  14. Forget QANTAS, the NSW government should have blocked foreign ownership of Wakefield Park instead.
  15. I think a friend's dad's selling his 80's Corvette, if you're interested....
  16. Volkswagen Mark IV Golf. Volkswagen build quality, tractable engine, innocuous looks, comfy. Yaris is an option. Its small and built like a Toyota. Might not be enough room, depending on your requirements. Volvo V40T. Safe and reliable, tractable engine, innocuous looks, comfy.
  17. Banning inexperienced youngsters from driving certain cars based on near-irrelevant criteria is reaping its rewards. The NSW government has had several goes at reducing the road toll. Double demerits. Minimum driving times when supervised by unqualified drivers who haven't been tested for a while. Banning cars that inevitably have reasonable brakes and chassis setups. etc etc. If my track record for driving a car was the same as the government's track record for coming up with effective road safety, unlike them I wouldn't be permitted to continue doing so. While we've both killed 30% more people on the roads this year than last year, in my case its only because an extra 30% on top of zero is still zero.
  18. You only just worked that out? The guy is a complete idiot. I've seen bags of cement less dense than that crank.
  19. With Nismo parts, you have a guarantee that they will fit perfectly and work properly. You can be assured that Nismo will have done some engineering on it, rather than just make something that approximately fits and "should work". My observation is that Nismo parts rarely ever provide the biggest bang in their class (let alone for the bucks you pay), but at the same time you never hear about installation woes and the parts tend to not fall apart on you. That and, with some Nismo parts being offered as options from the dealer, the results tend to be a lot more "streetable" than some aftermarket options. Nismo exhausts won't deafen you, nor drone. The Nismo lightweight flywheel isn't the lightest on the market but you don't have to ride the clutch or overrev the engine to take off.
  20. Mine was red. As we all know, red ones go faster. But nothing says "safe" quite like beige.
  21. Source: Australian IT At least when Microsoft's ICE OS inevitably crashes, it'll be branded properly for Ford without having to make any other changes to the error screen.
  22. Source It just goes to show how stupid some car owners are if companies that produce those "fuel saving pills" can not only stay solvent, but make enough money to buy big sports teams. The fact that the guy works through shell companies, has arrangements with arms dealers and possible ex-KGB money launderers, is really unsurprising. Anyone selling that fuel pill snake oil isn't exactly over endowed with principle. I seriously need to invent something that does absolutely nothing but promises the world, so I can make a crapload of money.
  23. Isn't New Zealand just an Australian colony?
  24. http://www.mynismo.com/products/?id=5584 Its not white on black, but it still has the Nismo logo at the bottom.
  25. There is no way those two exhaust tips, assuming they're remotely indicative of the rest of the exhaust, would flow 900hp. Especially not in FI guise. And, aside from the lack of intercooler, the V35 engine bay is pretty cramped. There's no venting to let out all that heat, of which there will be a shitload. And a 1200hp car that doesn't have any gauges for you to check on coolant and oil temps? Assuming the car could even make that kind of power with its restrictive exhaust....not monitoring your temps and giving the heat no way to escape is a recipe for destruction. The guy clearly has no mirrors in his house.
