94 Integra Vtir Or Skyline Gtst?
scathing replied to magpies03's topic in General Automotive Discussion
Right, because FWD cars don't understeer when you overthrottle. Or maybe you did want to go head first into the scenery? Front engined front wheel drive cars have a better weight balance than front engined rear wheel drive cars? Older VTEC motors having lots of torque? Bwhahahahah. And an FI motor will always make more torque than a NA motor of the same displacement, as long as its on boost. The presence of turbo lag is not directly related to an engine's "torquey nature". "Some idea" would be nice, yes. -

Technically its not variable valve timing. Its far superior to that. A more accurate description would be dual-stage cam profiling. And VTEC is all that Honda's powertrain boys have to go on. VVT-i and MIVEC owners know they still get pwned by their forced induction brethren (unless you're driving an Evo IX where you get the best of both worlds). -
If I don't compete, I'll come down and spectate.

Jdm 3.5l Skylines, (post 2002)
scathing replied to silkishuge's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
The 350Z powertrain parts will fit a V35. Because the wheelbase is a bit longer, the catback exhausts won't fit but everything else pretty much will. The engine isn't exactly the same as the 350Z's in terms of the ancillaries (the intake is a little different, from what I've been told) but it'd cost almost nothing to get them up to the same level. Pretty sure most suspension bits will also fit. Its not that its not a very popular car, its just that few people have been able to compliance them until recently. Now that they can, a lot of importers are rushing to bring the car in. -
94 Integra Vtir Or Skyline Gtst?

If you already knew, then why did you ask? And you're asking on a Skyline forum whether people would prefer a GTS-t over a Honda? Were you expecting an fair and balanced response? -

A GTS-t has a turbo. It takes relatively little effort to dial in more power, compared to a Honda NA engine. Do non GT-R Skylines have "street credential"? And the reason why no-one talks about them here could possibly be because this isn't a Honda forum. We don't talk about 1920's Packards, De Loreans nor Ascari KZ1's here either. If there is a vs thread, everyone would tend to go for the top-spec Type-R instead of the silver medalist. -

I've driven an auto 350GT coupe, and I quite like it. Its a lot softer than the 350Z, but at the same time its a lot more plush and quiet. And has rear seats. A great place to be in when you're tooling around town, or giving it a squirt on the motorway. -
I think they've changed the law recently, so that they consider your license at the time of the infringement rather than at the time of settlement. Not entirely sure, so best check with the RTA.

That is a bloody good price. If I didn't have 2 sets of used semi slicks in the garage I'd buy a set now.

2 months ago I saw a N15 Pulsar SSS on sale for round $5K. It had around 300,000km on the clock though. I was going to go and check it out, and if it was in decent nick offer them around $3K for it and use it as a daily....

I dunno. I don't like bikes as commuters. Not particularly safe, and in 60kms of peak hour traffic there's a lot of risk. If everyone commuted on bikes or scooters its OK, but when you're dodging soccer mums in 4WDs and mad tradies in vans, its a tad too dangerous. And when it rains, you're in trouble.

I'm a definite maybe as well.

Actually, right you are. pi x diameter = circumference My high school maths teacher is probably homicidal.

My car will be at the NSCC stand at Compak Attack, so my body should be there too.

Magnet-on-your-fuel-line Boys - Some Report On It

Anyone with a high school knowledge of chemistry would know that petrol isn't affected by magnets. -
Nup. Its actually a drop of around 2mm. Diameter = pi x radius squared

As people have said, the entry rules will restrict what kind of mods you can do to the car so it'd be very difficult to have something affordable that can compete in such a wide range of motorsport and be competitive in all. Me, on a low, low budget I'd go an S13 Silvia with SR20DET. Parts are everywhere, they're a bit lighter and more nimble than the Skyline (which is great for the tighter courses like road rallies and motorkhanas) and they're RWD. On a slightly higher budget, an early model WRX or old Evo / GSR. Something 4WD turbo, so maybe even a Laser TX3 Turbo. On the low grip stuff (motorkhana, skidpan) your 2WD cars will need a far superior driver, and for the faster stuff like road rallies I'd feel safer in a 4WD car.

The XJ220 is a little different. I'm not surprised that they had to cut the cost on them. The prototype car that all the fat cats put their deposits down on was a 4WD V12. The production car was a twin turbo RWD V6.......

How many streetable R34 GT-Rs will do 436km/hr in a stable manner with mods, let alone from the factory?

What's clear to you and us when we only get your side of the argument, and what's clear to the courts when they hear both and have to weigh their relative merits, are two completely separate things. Not saying that you're lying; I'm just the voice of experience. But, good luck with getting it fixed. I'm also in the "buy a replacement car and sell your wreck off, don't cut and shut it" crowd. Otherwise the next time some f**kwit decides to carve you up and not leave enough room, d00dz might not get to post "Well at least his ok and no one is/was seriously hurt".

Imagine you're Volkswagen. You've built the world's fastest car, something stupendously faster than the previous "world's fastest car". The motoring pundits say that not only is it the fastest car that's ever been made, but with the way the laws and public opinion are heading it will probably be the fastest car that will ever be made. So, what do you do now? Break open the bubbly? Pat yourself on the back? Order the hookers and blow? If you're in charge of Bugatti, the correct answer appears to be, "Add more power, and another 20mph to its top speed" Champions.

That is exactly my point. Its "what he says" - not what can clearly be tendered as fact. The van driver, I'm sure, has got something to say about the incident too....and what's the likelihood that it lines up with what the Skyline driver says? On the other hand, if you look at photos / police reports of the layout of the vehicles after the collision (i.e. stuff that is immutable fact), you've got a car behind hitting the side of a van. On the face of it, that never looks good. And when it comes to young drivers in turbo imports vs older people in more "sensible" cars, with little other evidence, the courts don't tend to look too favourably on the younger driver. Its not fair, I know, but I'm only talking about how things are and not how they should be.

Huntley is a lot of fun. I wish the hillclimb was longer, but its still pretty good. If I can get my car prepped in time I'll come out and do it. There's a video linked here of one of the NSCC's S15s doing the run, as well as some pics.

That's if you can prove the van driver is at-fault. The first sentence does say the guy's son drove into the van, not the other way around. Proving that some guy cut you off (which is all eyewitness account, and thus more prone to the vaguaries of the human memory) as opposed to the physics of the collision is a lot harder. If the kid is young / P-plater, his lack of experience and the current stigma against young drivers (in Jap turbo imports or not) it'll be even worse.
