I prefer the Melbourne lifestyle, actually. Yes, our roads and our other drivers are shithouse. I love driving in Melbourne in comparison, aside from the speed cameras. I can't suggest too much to visit that isn't in a tourist brochure. It depends on what you want to do, and what your interests are.

Project Mu Racing Spec Brakes Setup
scathing replied to _L8RSXY_'s topic in V Series (V35, V36, V37 & Infiniti)
I've got nothing against you personally. Hence why I'm talking more about the car and the suitability of engineering mods for your intended purpose. What I said about you is comparing what you said the brakes were for "better performance" vs what happens in reality I would have replied a lot earlier, and a lot more often, than I did if I was gunning for you. For example your paint scheme isn't my cup of tea (I much preferred the look of your car at the Mu Secret opening when it was still black, and that front bar you had on at the time) but hey, that's a purely aesthetic mod and that's up to a person's tastes. Hence why I don't go into any of your picture threads and comment about the paint or kit. Brakes are a mechanical mod, and so they can be measured against objective engineering criteria. Anyway, all this free thread bumping should keep it up there without you getting in trouble for it. I hope both the brakes and your car sold at the price you wanted. I'm sure your new car will be just as lavish as this one. No doubt. But how much better does the car stop compared to stock? Considering the fact that the stock non-Brembos can trigger the ABS with RT215s on the street if you hit them fast enough, the stock brakes already provide more than enough braking force on a single panic stop. One of my mates had a 350Z with a 355mm AP Racing kit. With twin turbos and full slicks he ran consistent 1:06s around Wakefield Park in 15 minute sessions, and couldn't get them to fade out with that much power and that much grip. The brakes cost around 2/3 the cost of these, and even though greater demands were made of them than this setup they still did the job. Maybe my definition of "love" is different to yours, but if I truly loved something I wouldn't let it go unless I absolutely had to. You don't "move on" from love. Sometimes you have to make sacrifices for the object of that love in its best interests, which is the only reason to part with something you truly love. No, I bought Volk wheels because of the quality of the wheel. Because I drive my car the way the manufacturer intended. Buying something purely for the looks isn't my cup of tea, as most people who know me will vouch for. If I did, I wouldn't spend big money on it. The looks of my wheels were still important, but secondary. I was originally going to run the stock wheels on the track but then, from a technical perspective, I thought it was weaksauce to run lightweight strong wheels on the street and stockers on the track so I spent up and bought a second set of RAYS wheels for track use. I don't particularly like the look of those second wheels on my car, but then I bought them for their performance. If I was buying something "just for the look" I'd go buy a massive big brake kit but then never use them hard enough to make use of the increased swept area and thermal capacity over the stock items that provide the same effective decelerative power since tyres are the limiting factor for stopping on the road. -
My rotor shields were removed with tin snips.

Project Mu Racing Spec Brakes Setup

At any rate, good luck with the sale. I've got mates who've tracked their cars with the 355mm Project Mu setup and found them brilliant. Going bigger would come in handy if you're planning on actually endurance racing on them in a high power car, or go to track days with open pits. -

Where do massive brakes "improve your safety" if you're not tracking the car hard? What the f**k is this "hater" "low baller" thing? Did we turn into Compton or something? For the record I don't get jealous of other people's success. I can't afford a R35 GT-R either, but I don't go all "hater" or get jealous on people who can. I also don't hate. I just enjoy highlighting people pissing their money away on pointless mods that they'll never properly use, and probably don't really understand. I also find it quite funny that you say you're so passionate about your V, yet you're getting rid of it. How passionate can you be about something if you're willing to let it go? -
I just walk around that Cima picturing it VIP style. Jet black, all the brightwork polished up fat chrome wheels, decked on its guts with massive camber, quad square tipped exhausts, illegally dark tint. Basically this without the white bits:

How Can You Tell If You Have Adjustable .....

What a tard. I wonder if that'd work with the exhaust example? If they say, "Do you have an exhaust?" and you're like "Well, yeah" and they're all "its illegal" then I'd just try and respond with "well how about I just take it off and run without one?" The definition of a coilover type suspension is clear cut. If the strut resides inside the coil spring, its a coilover. It doesn't matter if its stock, the spring and damper bought separately, or together in a kit. Its about the layout, not the source. You're right, the abbrevation of the phrase "aftermarket coilover kit" does mislead people. If that mentality gets entrenched it can, like in your instance, come back to bite you in the arse. It's why, in general, I try to stamp down on it. Same with the other big "car knowledge" bugbear I have where people say NA cars needing "backpressure" for efficiency. No petrol engine ever needs backpressure (I don't know how diesels, LPG etc works so I won't go out and say all IC engines don't). -

People who track their cars hard, and need big stopping power and big thermal capacity. -
The Best Car Design This Century?
scathing replied to GTR-N1's topic in General Automotive Discussion
A large percentage of the general public also think that anyone in a modified Japanese sports car is automatically a hoon (and quite possibly a gang member / drug dealer), so their opinions on cars can generally be ignored. Most people are stupid. A Porsche is a giant, brand-name, penis extension for investment bankers, lawyers, and other people that no-one likes. Its like caviar or truffles - it tastes like shit, but people want to be seen eating it. Back on topic, I reckon the Alfa Romeo MiTo GTA is the one of the best looking hot hatches around: The front bar could do with a little work on the corners (the down drooping makes it look like a Warner Brothers cartoon vulture sharing screen time with Bugs Bunny) but, overall, its a great shape. Also, the Scion iQ looks brilliant: I saw a few unbodykitted iQs in Europe and they're basically the size of a Smart ForTwo, but with rear seats. In terms of exterior design its a winner in form and function, in my books. -
According to Wikipedia, yes. The girlfriend's shop has one of these sitting in it: Although I'm not sure if its the V8 or the VQ30DET. The top spec model has foot massagers for the rear passengers.

If you want to see our driving roads check out the Thursday Night cruise. If you're coming up via the Hume you could make a slight detour via and take in some other roads. Turn off at the Illawarra Highway to go down Macquarie Pass. Otherwise take Picton Rd to Wollongong and go through the Royal National Park. As for sights, if you want to see what Sydney's version of Chapel St 10 years ago is like then go down George St in the CBD on a Friday or Saturday night. Here's a fellow Victorian's impression (the second half of the post). Take a ferry ride, since Melbourne's harbour isn't as scenic as Sydney's.

Buddyclub Spec 4 Cat Back System V35 For $599 ?
scathing replied to Frank350GT's topic in V Series (V35, V36, V37 & Infiniti)
I called AAI up about it since I need a new catback exhaust. Its a single exit system, which would look weird on our cars. They don't have any of their older ones with the two small cannons at the back either. If the Spec IV is anything like the older one described above, its also going to be filthy loud and droney. -
The Best Car Design This Century?
scathing replied to GTR-N1's topic in General Automotive Discussion
I don't know about that. Porsche only makes cars with 1 look. And, in my opinion, its a pretty average look at that. Old 911s looked like a squashed frog from front on and the rear-engined fat arse didn't do it any favours either. Without the "fried egg" headlights of the 996 (the only 911 I like) the current 911 just looks like an overweight frog. The only design cue I like on the 911 is the fat wheels with low offset. Don't even get me started on the Cayman. Without the wing up you can't tell the front from the back in silhouette, and even then its just a slightly deformed 911. -
My girlfriend landed a job at a compliancing firm, and they've got a current-generation Cima in there. Its so baller. I want one. It'll probably be a bit more than your $13K price though.

How Can You Tell If You Have Adjustable .....
scathing replied to SL33K's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
I used to be anal about that, but in the end its just a pretty known abbreviation of "aftermarket". If people say that they're planning on putting an exhaust on the car you don't get people jumping out of the woodwork saying all internal combustion engines already have them. It's the same thing. Its when people start saying they want to "convert to a coilover setup" that I point out the stock car already has a coilover design. -
The 350Z-Tech guys have expressed an interest in meeting up and getting pies in the near future. We'll either hit up Upper Crust in Longreef or Pie in the Sky in Cowan. Most of the Z33 guys on the forums won't be up for happy lapping at night, but you can try your luck.

Speaking of Nissan Australia dealers being cock-heads, I found this from a 350Z forum this morning: Its a common attitude I've been getting from a lot of 350Z owners, especially since for most of them its their first (and probably last) Nissan. I've always owned Nissans so I suppose I'm used to shoddy service but its quite a shock for guys coming from European cars.

Yeah I was originally going to say it was a tie between the Megane and the Panamera (seriously, Porsche, what the f**k are you guys smoking?) but Ssanyong trumps everything. -
If ADR compliance is an issue, give Maltech in Victoria a call for braided lines. The product isn't cheap (mine were $400 for the set for my Z33), but other people who have used them have found them to be top notch.

How Can You Tell If You Have Adjustable .....
scathing replied to SL33K's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Some manufacturers do the adjustment differently so it may not be totally applicable. I had Koni shocks in my car for a while that used circlips to change the location of the spring perch, and had a small flat nub on the top that you had to put a dial on to adjust.
