Popping Noises From Exhaust On Down Shift.
scathing replied to iseekool's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Its pretty normal. All of my cars have had a little crackle on over-run if I've been giving it the beans, stock or otherwise. -
Need Help With "controllable" Exhaust/muffler
scathing replied to Japav's topic in V Series (V35, V36, V37 & Infiniti)
A mate had one on his S14. With the valve closed, it was as quiet as stock but on his FI car he lost like 20rwkW compared to when its open. When open, it wouldn't be noise legal. -
Test Pipes And Downpipes?
scathing replied to sethaiyaar's topic in V Series (V35, V36, V37 & Infiniti)
There are some people who've run test pipes on their FM platform cars, that I'm aware of. I don't know the exact power gain, but the exhaust gets a lot louder and raspier. Resonated test pipes will fix the latter. It is extremely difficult to spot, since the cat doesn't really sit under the car and the car is so low. Actual power gains are minimal, being NA and all. Their main benefit over a high flow cat is that they'll be a shitload cheaper. -
Pics = proof of existence. Hopeless, or cynical? I call shenanigans. For the cost of trying to fit a complete R35 drivetrain into a Z33 chassis....you may as well have just bought a complete R35. I could almost understanding fitting a VR38DETT into a Z33 and running it in pure RWD mode, but if you're going to retain the transaxle and AWD there's no pro in putting it in a Z33, and plenty of cons. I know of a guy in Qld who is building a monster Z33. Drivetrain out of a V35 AWD, and with a properly built VQ. At least the platform for the drivetrain are the same, so the bits mostly fit.

I've ridden in an R35 (not driven), and the way it comports itself makes it feel boring. Sitting in the passenger seat reminds me of an AMG. Its silent, its fuss-free, and it has such a rock-solid feel to it that there's no sense of engagement with the vehicle. Its a similar cry I've heard about any quick AWD car. The grip is so immense that you have to be doing ludicrous speed for it to feel like you're driving the car, rather than just riding along as it sorts everything out for you.

I should be there. I'll post it on 350Z Tech.

Review: Nismo Twin Plate Coppermix Clutch Kit
scathing replied to scathing's topic in V Series (V35, V36, V37 & Infiniti)
More than that, I would estimate. I got mine at a discount through Pro Concept (who sourced it from an official Aussie distributor), and installed it cost me about $3K back when the Aussie dollar wasn't poo. You could privately import one from Nengun or something for a bit less, but when I looked the difference was a couple of hundred bucks. -
For the guys in Melbourne, I'll be down late April and the 350Z guys are meeting up. http://www.350z-tech.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=41292 Feel free to come along.

Tuscan Speed 6 (listen to its sound when tiff starts it) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-bJ3U8gutYs Aston Martin V8 Vantage http://www.topgear.com/uk/videos/man-fight...?Phrase=vantage Most of the modern Euro V8s (M3, RS4/R8, AMGs) sound horn as well.

Shit. All I get is wind noise. That's why I uploaded those videos sans sound.

Its a wet skidpan. You won't see much wear on the tyres. Certainly less wear than a dry track day.
-
If you like oldschool cars like that, check out the Classic Throttle Shop in North Sydney.
-
Alternatively, what about a skidpan day? http://www.drivingsolutions.com.au/driving...driftschool.asp $200 a head, minimum 10 people. More people doesn't lower the price per person, so it depends on how many people we get interested. If we can get around 20-25 people, booking out Wakefield for a private day won't cost much more than a regular open day. We can carry passengers on a private day, though. The track is booked pretty solidly this year, however.

I'm trying to arrange a 350Z cruise at the moment: http://www.350z-tech.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=41289 If we combine this again, that wouldn't be too bad. I'll cross-post suggestions.

This is why vs threads should always be sent to the Wasteland, have a pillowcase put over its head, and shot.

Poms From Skylineowners.com Go To Nuremburg

Tell me about it. Hitler got away with murder in Nuremberg. -
It has a bigger beard than the standard Typhoon.

I used to own a Manfrotto 241v. Manfrotto is one of the most famous camera mount producers, and the 241v was a nice piece of kit. My issues is that suction cups don't sit on curved glass very well, which ruled out my side mirrors. I eventually went and got a set of Oregon Scientific ATC2K cameras, which I race tape on to the exterior or use their straps etc for the interior. Video quality, I've been told, is better than the GoPro's. Video (with links to others) can be found .

Skunk 2 Plenum Spacer Kit
scathing replied to V35DRIVER's topic in V Series (V35, V36, V37 & Infiniti)
I've linked this to some guys from 350Z Tech who were looking for plenum spacers locally, so you might get a few blow-ins from there. If you can offer them a discount, I'm sure they'd appreciate it. -
I'd want more than that, even at an OEM "safety margin" tune. A VQ35DE blowing that kind of boost through most of the TT kits available on an internally stock motor makes 280-290rwkW, with a linear power delivery and good response all the way to the cutout. The APS kit is ADR legal, and a lot of guys are getting around daily driving them with the only necessary upgrades being an oil cooler and new clutch. In terms of drivability the thing delivers power like a stock S15....just over twice as much. The VQ37HR flows better in the head, has stronger internals, and has more displacement. Assuming the fuel system is up to it, 320-340rwkW should not be a hard ask at half a bar with well matched turbos with an otherwise stock engine. Something like this setup, with a pair of HKS GT-RS' making 340rwkW at 8psi. 300rwkW in a more conservative tune shouldn't be a hard ask for the HR.

Potenza Re55 Life Expectancy?
scathing replied to abu's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
I used to run Falken RS-V04s on the street. They were a very soft compound as well. I did a reasonable amount of street driving on them, and 2 track days. 8000km, and they were gone. -
Correction - at 18 we legally get considered adults. It's an arbitrary number. There's no mental or biological metamorphosis between 17 years and 364 days and the day after that just makes people mature and sensible. They might be more mature than at 16, but that doesn't necessarily mean they're mature enough. There are plenty of 18 year olds who are still too stupid to be allowed to operate heavy machinery. Plenty of 21 year olds too. 25, statistically, seems to be when people calm down behind the wheel. At least enough to be given a lower risk rating by car insurance companies. Then again, I haven't seen any proof that its not approximately 7 years of driving experience that doesn't cause the drop in accidents. Hopefully most people have the mental capacity to pick up most of the skills they need to cover almost all the situations they're likely to find themselves on a public road. When people get used to something they get blase about it. When something is new they go out and run amok, and exploring the limits of this new found freedom. After a while, when you've "been there done that" people tend to stop.
