  1. The Z06 is already a quite modified version of the base Corvette. So the ZR-1 would be like a Nismo version of the V-Spec.
  2. Probably if they found out a massive gaggle of hoons are planning on showing up without asking. If Nite Shift had bothered to call the guys who run Homebush and arrange it, they would have found out if P6 was opened or closed. Clearly they didn't, and if the site operators got wind of this unofficial meet (especially given the behaviour at every other Nite Shift and Dreamworkz meet that's been held there) they'd probably panic and call the cops.
  3. The Signal to Noise Ratio on there is terrible. Its one of the biggest car forums in Australia, and so for the handful of guys you get who do have a clue, you get a lot of pre-pubescent idiots and so many hard parkers that FineLine would have a stroke. I used to go through their technical forums for comic relief, when I was having a bad day and needed something to laugh at. Its gotten better since when I was more interested in Silvias a few years ago and read the forum occasionally, but the reputation sticks.
  4. I remember when questions about these eBay goods were posted about once a month. They're shit. I like how they've bolded the "you will like it" bit. All I'm seeing is some massive dodgy bloke standing over you prodding you in the chest, with an "or else" after it.
  5. Toyota's considering pulling out of F1 anyway, given the fact that they're doing badly for the amount of money they're pouring into the program....and how the lack of results hasn't affected their bottom line.
  6. Ignoring the cost of petrol needed to run a 2 ton V8/V12 in 20 years, the cost of servicing this car with all its electronic gizmos is going to make servicing it more expensive than buying it
  7. But that's just it. If your reason for buying the car is for how it feels when you're behind the wheel carving up your favourite road, then who cares if it looks like a smashed crab? However, if the point is that you want a car to make an entrance as a status symbol, then the car should look good. Its one reason why I much prefer the Rolls Royce Phantom to the Maybach. The former looks like a Roller, and has presence and heritage. The latter looks like the cross-eyed designer from Morgan designed the front end of an S Class.
  8. The new 7 Series looks better than the old one. Its not beautiful, or even particularly purposeful, but its relative blandness is far better than the taxi ad of the old car.
  9. Nissan "claimed", but they either lied or they were wrong. The Bugatti Veyron came out in 2005, a year before the Z-Tune, and runs a 9.8s quarter mile. Its a second hand car that Nismo modified. How can anyone call that Nismo's "production car"? What its "got to do with your opinion" is show people what your opinion is worth. And anyone who buys a 2WD Skyline has no place calling anyone else a "poser". No, this is a forum with people who own or like Skylines, but who also have level enough heads to see things as they are. Most of the guys here aren't blinded by their own zealotry towards certain brands. If you want to talk Civics, Integras, Preludes Accords then I doubt you'll see much love for them here since they aren't all that impressive, but the NSX and S2000 are proper sports cars.
  10. Yeah, but they lie about it.
  11. You drive an R33 GTS-t, Mr Pot. Nismo bought used cars that Nissan had already sold to the public, and then did them up. The fact that Nismo offers a warranty is irrelevant to whether its "production" or not. Its also arguable if 20 vehicles counts as a production run. The other cars you named were not "modified" at the factory. They were constructed at the factory, brand new, in that configuration. The Z-Tune, being a refurbished used car, is nothing like the vehicles you've named.
  12. The ZR-1 was not on Sport Cups. It was on Sport PS2's, which have a UTQG of 220. The Bridgestone RE070's that the GT-R uses are UTQG 140. The GT-R is on softer rubber, with a slightly more aggressive tread pattern.
  13. Not if we descend further and further into a police state. Off topic, but that's just f**ked. People want to talk about cops unfairly cracking down hoons because "normal" people drive fast (like the two middle aged Commodore drivers that killed that old couple in a Camry on the Great Western Highway in Sydney), but its just a part of the systematic removal of our freedoms. Back on topic, I would agree that these guys should have been busted for speeding and the like (even if, like Matt, I disagree with construction zone speed limits being active when there's no actual construction taking place) but calling them "hoons" is a bit rich.
  14. Looks really hot. <3
  15. I'm in a similar boat (not HWP, but a police officer) and certain behaviour gets described around him at social occasions that he doesn't go all moral crusader about. I see it as unfair because having an attitude isn't illegal. The only cops that go looking for any reason to bust someone have an "attitude" themselves, and so I don't see why a civilian should have to pass a test that the officer themselves clearly failed.
  16. The ZR-1's standing start stats are almost identical to a base GT-R's. Even with its massive power and torque to weight advantage for better rolling acceleration, without cornering ability it'd still get smashed at the Nurburgring. Its even moreso considering its rolling on UTQG 220 tyres, not the GT-R's UTQG 140's. Harder tyres, 2WD and a traditional manual gearbox. Its got plenty of brute force, but it still has to have some chassis and setup nous to put that power down to only 2 wheels with a slower gearchange.
  17. I doubt it. Compared to its Japanese brethren, it differentiates them. Most of the fast Euro supercars are NA (Enzo, Carrera GT, Zonda, etc) and they're still quick. The Nurburgring "production car" (and I use the term very loosely) record holder is a NA track day special. It works for them. I'm more disappointed with the new NSX's front/mid engined AWDness than its lack of turbos.
  18. There's a DC5 Integra that drifts in the US courtesy of a S2000 engine/driveline conversion. Nissan UK has built motorsport Micras that have run mid-mounted SR20DETs and VQ35DEs. Hartge has fitted a E39 BMW M5 V8 engine to a 1 Series. There's a track-only BMW sedan that I've seen at an Eastern Creek day that runs an old BMW F1 1.5L turbo engine. Its not running qualifying boost, of course, but its still insane. Some Elise owners in Europe slot the Rover V8 into them. Some VW Van owners fit Porsche engines into the back. No list of crazy engine swaps is complete without talking about the Bullet Roadster.
  19. Leading a cop on a high speed chase is [insert a synonym for dumb that won't see my warning level rise further]. I hold that police should be held to a higher level of compliance to their legal responsibilities than regular folks, given their legal privileges. Police abuse of power, and the corruption that goes hand-in-hand with it, is one of the hallmarks of a society that's the opposite of Australian values. If someone can't, or won't, uphold the entirety of law consistently and without discrimination, they shouldn't be a police officer. However, I know that cops are also humans and they experience frustration. So when they see some random dickhead acting like a toolbag and then bragging about doing wrong, its understandable (but not acceptable) that they get the shits and take it out on someone who might not be doing something wrong.
  20. Well, considering they won't give it the "R35" designation you're technically right. The "R35" will only be the GT-R coupe. But, Nissan will build another car with the same underpinnings to recoup costs, and since SUVs are going out of fashion I'd say a sports sedan would be the logical choice.
  21. Does it not occur to you that the poor standing the police have among the populace (not just car enthusiasts), especially highway patrol, stems from their poor attitude towards motorists? Hang on, I thought cops were just meant to uphold the law. Shouldn't the only thing that makes them a "target" be the consistent committing of crimes? Or has self expression, which I am aware isn't constitutionally protected in Autralia, actually become illegal? Its this power trip "poor attitude" behaviour that generates most of the fuel that the negativity comes from. If you guys weren't cops and tried the "say bad things about me which are technically legal but I don't personally like, and I'll make your life difficult" schtick, you'd be called bullies and thugs. The last time I checked, there was no law permitting cops to hassle people who aren't breaking the law. There were laws against it. Is it any difference, in principle, to seeing all these police spokespeople bagging out young car enthusiasts on the TV and in the newspapers, or copping attitude from the police during "random" breath tests that required them to overtake a half a dozen cars in order to pull them over? Especially when they're basing their prejudices on the behaviour of people in another country. If the cops, as a whole, don't like being profiled based on a visible minority then maybe they should practice what they preach. I don't have a problem with the police force as an institution, and I respect what they do for the community. But, like any organisation you'll get bad segments. Responsible car enthusiasts will join the public's chorus to denounce the actions of some idiots within the ranks. By the same token honest cops should have no issue with the calling out of cops that tarnish the Force's image by going against its ethos of upholding society's values via the law by, first and foremost, always complying with it. Its a police favourite, when the issue of privacy and police powers for inspection comes up, to say "if you've got nothing to hide then you have nothing to fear from people looking". By the same logic, if you're not an arsehole cop then you've got no reason to take offense when people say some are because they're not talking about you.
  22. SR20VET is found in the X-Trail, so its also a latitudinally mounted engine. A GTiR's SR20DET (with the quad throttles) makes more power, stock, than the U13's SR20DET. I think the blocks are stronger and the GTiR uses a T28 to the U13's T25, as well. It should be cheaper than the SR20VET, and will certainly be easier to find in Australia.
  23. After looking at pictures of the Pintara and Bluebird, yeah I probably am thinking of the Bluebird TRX. And according to Wikipedia, the KA24DE powered Pintara was FWD. SR20 is the only reasonably feasible option, I'm afraid. SR20 > RB20 anyway :flamesuit-on:
  24. Get Craved to powdercoat them for you, in whatever colour you want.
