  1. Not necessarily. The KA24DE saw duty in the US-delivered Silvia in a longtitudinal mount. I'm pretty sure old-school Pintaras are RWD - my mate had a TRX with an FJ20 - and I don't think anyone makes an FR with a latitudinally mounted engine.
  2. Nissan definitely has to sharpen the GT-R within the next 2/3 years. Porsche is updating the 911 Turbo, including giving it a twin-clutch transmission and a bit more power. Since that's what Nissan regards as its competitor to the GT-R, if Porsche is shifting the goalposts then so must Nissan.
  3. The new NSX is running Honda's first sportscar-oriented adaptive AWD system, which has been the GT-R's party piece since the R32. So, "F1 inspired" with its 550hp V10 or not, giving the new NSX the ability to make use of that power (which separates powerful cars like Yank Tanks from fast cars like the GT-R and Porsche Turbo) has brought Honda to where Nissan was 20 years ago. Its just occurred to me that Honda copying Nissan started in true Honda fashion, with rice. The stickers on the first "hot" NSX gave the car the same letter suffix in 1992 that Prince/Nissan put on their top-of-the-line sports car back in 1969. Even the colour of that decal is the same. And that's a 23 year jump. First its the badge. Then its the AWD. Maybe in 2031 the NSX will get turbos and round tail lights too. They might even hire a European to run the company, who then drops the NSX name and just calls the successor the "Honda Type-R".
  4. Quick, better call ACA so they can do another expose on P platers.
  5. For prior cars. But if they're developing a sedan based on the PM platform, it probably won't. For example, both the Z33 and V35 are FM platform cars but the wheelbases are different lengths. "Platform" doesn't necessarily mean the physical chassis. It means engineering hardpoints, like suspension and drivetrain design. Since the R35 has been panned as being a bit cramped for rear passengers, were they to make a PM-based sedan it would have to be longer than the GT-R to meet the minimum comfort requirements for this class. The GT-R isn't exactly a small car, and so a sedan variant based on the same platform is going to be more M5 sized than M3. No shit, Sherlock. No-one's talking about adapting the V35/36 chassis to fit the R35's AWD drivetrain. They're talking about using the GT-R's PM platform to build another car. It will sit above the V36 in size. And yes, other cars built around the platform the GT-R uses will be released. Pray that they're building a sports sedan, because if they're not that only leaves a SUV or some even worse prospect....or lose money, at which point they'll just can the entire GT-R project.
  6. I'm looking at a new box too, so can I get a PM with the business name?
  7. Jitterbug! Come down here. Do track days.
  8. The RAYS Duraluminium nuts need to be hand tightened, or otherwise you'll destroy the thread. If I remember correctly, they're meant to be torqued in the low 90Nm range. I also destroyed a set...by letting tyre monkeys at the shop use rattle guns on them.
  9. FWD drifting
  10. That means they're parallel imported, right? So, no local warranty aside from the retailer warranty? Bit of a worry if the tyre shits itself and puts you into a pole.
  11. Because he already owns one, so its not like he's in the market to buy either. The question is, should he upgrade or not? With the money difference, he could do quite a few mods to the V35. If we're talking about already owning, say, a V35 350GT and thinking about the NSX then the price difference is a lot narrower. He never said which one he owned, but if he's comparing the two I would assume he'd have something like that.
  12. Maybe they did, but like others here they mistook "standard everything" as being the car completely untouched, rather than just standard hardware. Its a bit too late to correct the guy after he's said it. There's already been a bit of news about the Haltech R35 GT-R, and their ECU does modify boost as well as the timing (and possibly fuelling).
  13. Depends on what you want from a car. A V35 is more luxurious and practical, the NSX is a better sports car. If you were thinking of trading in the V35 because you wanted something more like a Z33 then I'd recommend the NSX instead.
  14. Noel - I love you.
  15. Get a bicycle. http://www.metacafe.com/watch/163511/bicycle_drift/
  16. Fark, that's good! I got about 17,000km out of my RT215s. They still had a little bit of tread on them, but they were on the indicators, and that mileage includes a trip to Melbourne where I was cruising for 900km each way, and it rained on the way there and on the way back. If you can get that much mileage out of RA1s, maybe I should consider them for street tyres. I think the UTQG for the RA-1s is 40-100 though (depending on testing methodology), whereas the RT615s are 200. Maybe I just drive mine too hard.
  17. If it doesn't work as soon as you get it, always take it back to the retailer rather than a third party so they can't fob you off with a "oh, your other guy must've broken it" bullcrap. Still, the Trade Practices Act will back you up. If you get this other mechanic to say "It was broken when I inspected it", plus with your statement that it was borked before and you called them up and they said to go elsewhere, they'll need far better lawyers than yours to worm out of it as the balance of probability is in your favour.
  18. The R1Rs have a UTQG lower than the RT615s. They're on par with the RE-01Rs. Theoretically, if you work on the "less life = more grip" principle then they should be better for grip, but not longevity.
  19. I've driven the car for over a year, street and track, without rotor shields. Personally, I don't think its necessary. However, I'm sure the OEM installed them for a reason...I just don't know what. I'm using Maltech lines too. V-Sport is selling Goodridge braided lines for about half the price of the Maltechs, but I'm not sure of the Goodridge's ADR status.
  20. RA1s are an R-Comp. RT615s are an S-Comp. The former will grip harder, but last a lot less mileage. What kind of range did you get out of the RA1s?
  21. Pretty sure it was the factory bracket. Had it installed by Pro Concept and they didn't charge me for a bracket. When I asked, they said they didn't need to custom make anything. You will have to cut away the rotor shield, of course. Some of the bolts may not be the same either. The brake lines definitely don't match, so make sure you get the OEM Brembo lines with the calipers or, like me, just get braided ones.
  22. Just found this on 350Z-Tech. For those people looking at running 18" rims with a very thin barrel, or 19" rims, rather than trying to source the OEM Brembos from an early model V35 or Z33 with its 12.5" rotors, why not go a step up and source the brakes from the new Infiniti G37 Sport and get 14" front rotors, and 13" rear ones? Vendors in the USA are selling full OEM-spec kits for USD$1700 (plus the cost of the custom mounting bracket), which is about the same as the AUD$2500 I paid for my OEM Brembos back when I upgraded. Aside from bigger rotors, the Akebono calipers are also larger. Not sure about relative quality, but if they're a proper Nissan part they won't be as bad as other unknown random brands. At the very least, this should drive down the cost of the Brembos as people upgrade to an OEM quality big brake setup. If I can get confirmation that these will fit under my 18" TE37s, I'd consider offloading my Brembos.
  23. 255-275 widths are what most tyre manufacturers recommend as a range for 9.5" wide wheels. You can go outside that, if you don't mind stretching or ballooning.
  24. $370 a corner or thereabouts, at last check.
  25. I run FK452s and I quite like them. I came off RT215s so, when I first got them, they felt very loose, but after driving other peoples' cars I've realised that they perform really well for the money. They're also the only affordable tyres that come in my size (285/35 R18), but I'd get them even if I had more options.
