HWP do the same basic training that general duties get (I assume the asshole training is some extra module they do afterwards since most general duties cops don't have the attitude problems necessary to join HWP). Which means they're not incapable of sorting out fights and robberies any worse than a general duties copper. EDIT: Also, doing that would increase the chance of a HWP copper getting punched out, stabbed or shot, while decreasing the chance of it happening to a general duties cop. I'll leave that to the reader as to whether they think that's a good thing or not. The point being made is: given the amount of fighting and robberies vs defecting people who aren't doing something stupid behind the wheel of the car, why aren't these cops getting repurposed? The Police force's management knows they've got X number of graduates a year, why not shift more of them to doing something society has greater support for given that they're not exactly short on things to do? I've got no issues with cops cracking down on illegal runs or defecting cars that have a dangerous level of metal in their rustbuckets, but random guys doing laps at low speeds? Maybe I'm old fashioned, but I'm a fan of busting people for what they actually do wrong and targetting people who are an actual menace.

The knuckle-dragger who told you that must have specialised in rotaries in their last job or something.

There was meant to be an "if" between "but" and "Nissan". I'll edit the post.

18 Inch Tyres For V35 350gt
scathing replied to Rickal's topic in V Series (V35, V36, V37 & Infiniti)
I've driven on NS2's before. They're not a bad tyre. They're just not a good one. If you want something to get from A to B, then they're fine. They're durable, they work reasonably well, and they're cheap. $200 seems a bit steep, though. Tempe Tyres sells them, in 40 profile, for $150-175 each.....and you can probably talk them down. With a higher profile, I'd expect yours to be cheaper. -
What To Buy As A Daily/track Car?
scathing replied to jrocket's topic in General Automotive Discussion
Either: * Silvia with SR20DET. Lightest of the bunch. * R33 with RB25DET. Biggest engine. What you choose depends on what you can afford and your driving style. The R33 has a longer wheelbase and should therefore be more stable in the high speed stuff, but the S13 will be more nimble. Finding performance mods for any other cars should be easy as they're all popular. S13 should be cheaper to maintain, though. -
No, Nissan Australia does not support cars that are not its own. There will be a range of differences between the two cars (notwithstanding the language barrier on the menus and the ECU tune, at the very least) and Nissan can't partially support a car while adhering to its "service" levels (and I use the word "service" lightly). So rather than providing "best effort" support on the things that aren't on their local models, they make a decision to not support any of it. Its not uncommon practice for any OEM. They have channel partners who invest in each other to deliver the car from factory to customer, and supporting a vehicle bought outside the channel is back-stabbing people who've given you money. There is no inference that Nissan Japan sells inferior cars to what Nissan Australia will be obtaining either. The inference on superiority is in the assurance on the product as it is delivered. Nissan Australia cannot guarantee that the vehicle was not damaged in transit, which they have to do on their own vehicles. When a customer buys a vehicle that was damaged in transit, they expect it to be fixed under warranty. If its a Nissan Australia vehicle, then it gets done. If its a grey import, they'd refuse....but if Nissan Australia had already supported this grey import R35 prior (especially for a different warranty claim), they will inevitably have an argument over why they're not covering it in this instance. You'd think it was cut-and-dried that its nothing to do with Nissan Australia and therefore not their responsibility, but having worked in warranty support for an IT company I know that people will buy stuff from the dodgiest of places where it got damaged rather than failed due to manufacturing, and expect the OEM to cover it anyway. Its about covering your own arse while setting customer expectations. I don't like it, but having been on the other side I see why they do it. ** EDITED FOR CLARITY **

Its OK. The colour charts are stuck on the wall. They can just point and grunt, which may be all some of those salespeople can do.

Best Exhaust For A V35 Coupe
scathing replied to wabbo69's topic in V Series (V35, V36, V37 & Infiniti)
Dual 3" is too big for a VQ35DE, unless you're building a race car. Even a true dual 2.5" isn't ideal unless you're running FI. The peak power gain over a 2.5" that goes to single is barely noticable, but what is noticable is the drop in midrange. The best exhaust I've experienced for a Z33/V35 is the Fujitsubo. Its quiet down low but gives a good note up top, the rear tank and tips look almost stock (which I believe allows you to retain the stock rear diffuser) and its great quality. Out of curiosity, is there any reason why you don't want to change the "front manifold" (and are you referring to the headers/extractors or the intake plenum?)? -
The Z06's strength is its endurance capabilities, hence its success in ALMS, and why Corvette fanboys bring up running for longer than "one lap dashes". There are plenty of street cars that will set a blistering single flying lap, but then overheat all its fluids and pads after a half a dozen. It is an issue experienced more by turbo cars than NA, due to the higher heat per unit volume they generate. It is a valid comment, but if Nissan built the R35 anything like the R34 Z-Tune (which was engineered for all the components to be able to handle 15 minutes at "time attack" pace on a circuit) then it would more than holds its own over a longer distance.

In a competition like Targa Tasmania, its always skewed towards the AWD entries. Its near impossible for one day to not have precipitation, whether it be rain or snow. The stages in Targa are also quite tight, and a high powered RWD car isn't going to have the 2nd gear corner exit grip an AWD car does. Jim Richards has lost, a few times, to a WRX in a Porsche 911 GT3 RS despite all his knowledge of the roads. I was down there in 04 to watch Sullens beat Richards. It snowed on the last day, which basically decided it. But, on a dry circuit and with "equal" mods, there's no way a WRX could keep up with a GT3 RS. I think the Z06 will similarly struggle in Targa, but its not indicative of its circuit performance.

Top Gear Critises Skylines
scathing replied to skyline-driver's topic in General Automotive Discussion
The bastard's so big he was probably sitting on the thigh bolsters anyway. -
For those that follow Japanese cars, the GT-R is a classic. It just doesn't have the international recognition right now that the Porsche does, and the Vette only has "pedigree" because America exports its culture rather than a history of internatonal success. I do realise the C7R is doing really well in Le Mans, but that's a relatively recent thing compared to Porsche's international racing history.

Top Gear Critises Skylines
scathing replied to skyline-driver's topic in General Automotive Discussion
True, or just remove the soundtracks completely and just have the sound of the engines. But then it wouldn't be what they released on TV. And their arty guys chose that music to go with that filming and those cars. -
You forgot to mention that the GT-R was cheating with turbos.

Top Gear Critises Skylines
scathing replied to skyline-driver's topic in General Automotive Discussion
There never will be. This question was brought up with some executive for Top Gear. Apparently its because of licensing to the soundtrack. You may have noticed how many different songs they use, and their original license for using the music covers them for TV broadcasts only. If they were to provide a DVD they'd have to negotiate a new license the music and pay out new royalties, which would apparently make the DVD not economically viable. That's why the only Top Gear DVDs are the Challenges, since the limited number of challenges means they don't have to try and re-license too many songs. The way I see it, a Top Gear boxed set will be like that old HRT 427. The producers think that they couldn't price it to a point where people would buy it, but the people who would buy it like it so much they'd pay a lot more. If they charged AUD$45 for each DVD, and stuck it in a nice box with some other material I reckon fans would still buy it. -

He shits on the 599 GTB Fiorano in Season 10. -
Yeah, it is annoying. It makes people kind of not want to answer.

Top Gear Critises Skylines

Now who's being one-sided? He's also criticised the lacklustre build quality, the lack of traction control, ABS, or any other safety aid in a 400hp/ton car, the twitchy handling, the fact that you need to be some kind of art major in obscurism to work out how to open the door or start the car when it comes to TVRs. And lets not forget that most of the Rover employees blame him and Top Gear for burying their company after they always did demeaning reviews of anything they turned out. He's not exactly a fan of Vauxhalls (Monaro excluded) either. -
Lack of experience, I'd say. They probably don't get too many questions about Maximas and Tiidas aside from, "What colours does it come in?", "What's on the option's list?" and "Have you got anything more boring to drive?" so they're not used to questions from people shopping for a car rather than an appliance.

At what speed do they stop? What gear are they in? If you're talking about a 3rd or 4th gear roll from 40km/hr to the top of 3rd on the HSV, it would be close. The R35 will be off-boost. If we're talking first gear from 40km/hr to 160km/hr (the "old ton"), even if the W427 doesn't break traction when you grab second its gearchange will still be far slower than the R35's. The ratios should also be a lot closer in the GT-R. The R35 will be on boost by 40km/hr so the displacement advantage over a smaller turbo engine is negated. Its aerodynamic profile is better. I'd say the two sedans would struggle to keep up with the GT-R. And the F6 won't even be a competitor. There's no way FPV will permit their I6 to outpower their range-topping V8, for marketing reasons. The knuckle draggers who buy these kinds of cars wouldn't stand for it. And the Ford V8 is well off the pace. Unless FPV somehow manages to find a couple of Ford GT engines and fit them, the F6 will always be hobbled to under 300kW.

I was watching the F1 on Sunday, and a Toyota ad came on where they said "We compete in more motorsport competitions than any other company" etc etc I said out loud, "Yeah, but how many do they actually win?" A mate there, who owns a Toyota, replied back with "Doesn't matter". Wouldn't not winning in lots of races make you a bigger loser than someone who doesn't win in only a couple?

To humour you I'll answer this question directly, too. It depends on how good the rest of the car is. I've driven a 280rwkW 350Z running a 275 width Pirelli P Zero. With a rolling start in 1st gear, it wheelspun around 600RPM from redline. Second gear roll starts were completely fuss-free all the way to the limiter. If you're talking about some shithouse car with retreads on the back then, yeah, it might be a struggle. But the W427 or the new Typhoon would have its suspension engineered around its power output. If a 350Z with geometry-affecting lowering springs and 275 width tyres can cope with that amount of power and torque, so can a modern Falcodore.

Lets think about that, based on my post that we're responding directly to Amir's question in the first post of this thread? (Emphasis added by me, spelling mistake is by him) Would you care to revise your statement, given the context of his question?
-
Did you bother to read the part where Amir was asking about a roll start, which would take traction out of the equation?
-
At least they're not VLTs.
