I'm a maybe, but chances are I'll be working. CB stands for "Citizen's Band". The police don't use CB for their radios. The cops can show up based on the tip and try to bust you for something (either catching you red handed, or getting you to admit guilt), but unless the person reporting it in is willing to testify they pretty much have zero evidence and can't do too much regarding that accusation.

Hey, the Holden Monaro would be quick too....if it wasn't a Monaro.....and it wasn't a Holden.

You guys missed a pretty good drive. Flies everywhere, unfortunately. http://www.au-z.org/gallery/350z-tech_2007..._jenolan?page=1

Its not bizarre. A "race" is, by definition, a contest. The speed and acceleration you achieve is irrelevant. If two of you take off.....that's a contest. Do it on a public road, and you just perfectly fit the description of a "street race". If you're by yourself and you punch it at a set of lights to the speed limit, you're probably less likely to get done...but there's probably another road rule they can get you for.

Coilover Brands
scathing replied to r_speedfreak_r's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
The one thing that coilover literature doesn't tell you, and what makes or breaks a coilover kit, is the performance of the dampers. They can crap on about how they're made (mono tube, inverted, whatever) but its the interplay between the spring and damper rates are what makes a car handle well in an initial impression (the construction and materials used will only really tell you how they'll last when hammered for a while). The other thing is that suspension setup is very personal. Everyone's driving style is a little different, and so the feel you get from the car is also different. The only thing I can suggest is to try a couple of cars out with the parts you want, and see if you like it. That's what I did when I was shopping for coilovers for my car. -
Ferodo Ds2500 Pad Price
scathing replied to gtr fan's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
The only pads I've run in my Z, aside from stock, are DS2500s and now Endless CC-X. I've found the DS2500s to be excellent, and at their temperature limits far better than the CC-X pads. I know people who've done track work on the DS2500s and EBC pads in their Silvias, and hate the latter. FWIW, I use Motul RBF600. -
Does it? This is the only forum I'm on (and I'm on a few) that gets "school holiday shit stirrers", or lots of people talking about how they did XYZ on public roads. That said, I'm not on ns.com.

I recce ran it yesterday. The open, flowing nature of the roads really suits our cars. Its something you can leave in top gear and effortlessly "waft" on the midrange. Yeah, the surface wasn't ideal though.....and it wasn't much better going to Oberon.

My context for short shifting is to change gear before you hit the cutout. I think that's the common understanding. I get the feeling your confusion is over "flat changing", which some people interpret as being clutchless and others consider to be "not lifting off the throttle".

Raul, forget the R888s. Everyone knows the Ultimate Nankang Challenge is now what all the cool kids are doing.

When Ramjet takes this proton pill the crooks rake in the dollars.

As long as you're not losing a great deal of power, a higher cutout gives you a bit more rev range to play with. Even if the power curve falls away a little, it can still have advantages. I'll put it this way. My generation of VQ35DE has a stock redline of 6600RPM. I've bumped it up to 7200RPM. When me and a mate in similar cars were at Wakefield, we'd come out of Turn 2 and head up the hill. The distance to the next corner means that he hits the cutout probably a second before his braking point. That means he either has to bang it off the cutout, lift off the throttle, or grab another gear (and go back down a gear for the corner). All of which loses time. I just keep my foot pinned, and so I keep accelerating (albeit slowly) up to our braking point. Even though I'm not making a great deal of power in that extra 600RPM, not having to stop accelerating gives me a major advantage in terms of my point to point speed. Its the same if you're in a corner where your revs are up near redline. If you grab the next gear you lose a lot of punch, but with the stock cutout you might find yourself too close to the limiter. Just remember that you can always short shift a car, regardless of what it revs to, and all else being equal the car's behaviour doesn't change. Allowing the engine to overrev past the cutout, on the other hand, is a lot more difficult.

Surely you'd be yelling "shut up" first, and slamming your laptop lid down.

Don't those hardcore GT-R motors spin to 11,000RPM?

What if its someone's mum's blue Mazda2? I don't know if it has frangipani stickers on the windows, but if it doesn't I can probably arrange to buy some.

I wasn't saying he was going to drive like an insane bastard just because he's a P plater. I was saying he was going to drive like an insane bastard because he clearly doesn't care about obeying the requirements that come with holding a license. He doesn't give a f**k about buying a car he's legally allowed to drive, why will he give a f**k about dangerous driving, speeding, or any other safety-related things? Driving around on a car that you've got no insurance on is uncalled for. Being young and only buying a 2WD Skyline, chances are he's not going to be loaded enough to replace someone else's car or pay their medical bills out of pocket when he crashes.
-
You left out "stop being a dickhead and buy a car that I'm legally allowed to drive". I hope that, when you crash, you don't hit anyone else with your insurance-less car.
-
Thanks mate. I'll go look for it when I recce run, either tomorrow morning or Monday morning. The guys have been raring at the bit to go out for a spirited drive, hence the time. I might arrange something a bit gentler and thus a bit later in the day, especially now that we're heading into summer and people might want to do lunch up (or down) the coast. Arrange a V35 meet, and invite us

If this "Floyd" guy is racing in a "performance car series", it still means he's building a car to regulations. If I just had a blank slate to build an SS Commodore with $50K in mods with no restrictions on what I could do, it would still be a fast car. The original Group A GT-Rs were not cheap to run the times they set, especially once you factor in inflation. One big advantage the GT-Rs had, aside an adaptive AWD system, was that they were far more expensive (in terms of the donor car as well as the level of preparation they got) than a lot of their competitors at the time.

Yeah, because cruising up Lane Cove Road, and then down Pittwater Road, across the bridge, and then out to the inner west is for Terry Tough C#%ts. I suppose if you're driving a boat you're going to want to keep it near the water. If you think that cruising up dead straight, traffic lighted, heavily populated, low speed metropolitan roads is the best Sydney has to offer your GT sports coupe, it just goes to show how low your standards are.
-
Its not that interesting, if you think about it. I could spend a tenth the cost of a V8 Supercar on an SS Commodore and probably get it to within a few seconds of the V8 Supercar over a single time-attack lap too. That doesn't mean that HRT etc can't build a fast car. If I'm not building to regulations, and therefore sinking a lot of money to "work around" artificial restrictions rather than the limits of physics or current engineering, I could build a beast of a taxi too. Everyone on here will have, by now, seen the video of the Mines Ultimate Response R34 GT-R and how the BMI drivers reckon its faster than their GT500 cars under acceleration. What's the likelihood that the Mines' car cost anywhere near as much as the GT500 vehicle?
-
I've got some spare polarisers, if you want to improve your economy further. Then there's that FirePower pill thing. Does anyone have a translation on how it actually works?
-
So does that mean Hondas and Renaults are quicker than V8 Supercars and GT-Rs?

Confused! Need Help On Whether To Buy R34 Gtt Or S15
scathing replied to pablo101's topic in General Automotive Discussion
hmm.......... Some things are rare for a reason, and that reason isn't necessarily positive. I'm not sure why that's important. Offset by more weight. A truck has more torque than a car, too. As opposed to the Silvia, which was discontinued before the R34.....?
