  1. Probably drives a rotary.
  2. It will require some serious fabrication to make it workable. Have you considered running AWD with the VQ35DE, and supercharging it? I'm not sure if you can get turbo setups around the front driveshafts given the lack of room but it would be a fair amount easier. Turbos aren't out of the question, especially if you do what Top Secret did and do a single high mount behind the engine. The V35 Skyline had an AWD option, so the parts are out there. The AWD system is also semi-intelligent, proportioning power pro-actively rather than reactively. If you have a look at the Hyper Yellow Time Attack JUN Z33, its also AWD with a VQ block. The Zele cars have factory support, and from what I've heard they're either reskinned GT-Rs. Its full GT-R running gear, so otherwise they would have done some major work to make it fit in a car that's physically a different size.
  3. I'm not really into 4chan, to be honest.
  4. If you don't like his GT-R, I think his flatmate has a 350Z for sale.
  5. Mechanics tend to buy oil in big drums rather than those off-the-shelf bottles. Why not go ask them to sell you one of theirs?
  6. NSW State elections are on soon. I'm voting for the other guy.
  7. Yay, even more P-plate restrictions that probably won't make a lick of difference in the road toll. Because the War on Drugs and Prohibition has shown the effectiveness of "zero tolerance". Not to mention the stellar effort that "never negotiating with terrorists" has done for world peace. And God knows that young people never drive unlicensed. Yep, because the general population strictly adheres to the "no handset" laws and so obviously we can expect good compliance and constant enforcement of this rule. Awesome. So instead of 4 fooli sik bros in one car, we'll get 4 fooli sik bros in two cars dragging each other. And more under 21's drink driving because they can't run a reasonable designated driver system, and can't rely on public transport to get them anywhere (let alone home). Can't see any dangers there........ Business as usual, then. Source The government's last bunch of knee-jerk initiatives were highly effective at killing more people - I can't see these being any better. I suppose it is an election year, though, and won't somebody think of the children? And to those officers who are potentially reading this, we both know you have discretion in enforcing these hare-brained new laws. I wouldn't presume to tell you how to do your jobs, but I would suggest (as an Australian citizen and a stakeholder in the public road system) that we work co-operatively and reasonably together to reduce the road toll despite the best efforts of the ivory towered geriatrics who are unfortunately making these short-sighted and inevitably ineffective rules. There are some people (like that Maurice character, who Vic police kindly gave said discretion and he unfortunately abused) who deserve to get punished a lot more than what they got, but the "us vs them", "zero tolerance" mentality historically doesn't work. And not all of us are complete clowns.
  8. Do you have an EDFC? And is the front behaving the way you want it to? I'd recommend stiffening the rear sway bar up a bit, and giving it a go. If its close to the balance you want, you can then use the EDFC to fine tune (especially in wet / dry conditions). If its still understeery, stiffen the rear bar some more. I'm using Flex+EDFC in my Z33 and I've got my adjustable bars set to full hard front and full soft rear (its too taily with hard all round). I still get the steering response I want from the stiff front bars, and I use the EDFC to adjust the dampers to fine tune the balance.
  9. How do you know that my hobby isn't burying treasure and living out my pirate fantasies? Or I'm a furry, and burying stuff is foreplay before I go shag my partner while we're both wearing dog costumes? Different tastes, etc.... All I'm saying is that appreciation can only go so far. I appreciate guys who build track-focused Integras, even though I don't like FWD. I appreciate people who are into hang gliding, even though I'd never strap myself to an oversized kite and jump off a cliff. This, on the other hand....taking a reasonable car and a reasonable amount of cash and coming back with something unreasonable. He could have built a car like Shonen's. Instead, he built something that looks like a dog ate a paint box and then vomited all over it.
  10. I do. Other responsible road users do. People like you don't. It says more about you than it does about the cop. If a car thief ring was being organised through the Internet providing the results of them casing your ride, you'd probably be singing a different tune. Or how about people bragging about how they keyed or badged a bunch of cars at so-and-so? Or those clowns at Noble Park Maccas posting their "exploits" up, etc? How often did cops used to get laughed at about all these people opening bragging about their illegal activity online, but the cops were too old and slow to even know about the Internet? Of course, the article does say its only a "part" of their investigative techniques. Given how many people are co-ordinating things through the Internet (legal or otherwise) these days, or idiots bragging about it afterwards, having detectives look for evidence online is hardly a stretch. Its gotten a complete f**kwit in a Silvia "named and shamed" out into the public consciousness, so he can't go around anywhere without everyone knowing that he's a complete f**k knuckle that brags about acting like a complete tool. So, all in all, I'm pretty stoked.
  11. Just out of curiosity, if I dug a massive hole and shovelled 2 skip-bins' worth of $5 notes into it, could you appreciate the amount of time and money I spent doing it? Assuming you weren't allowed to go and dig it all up afterwards, of course.
  12. I ran a search for "Silvia canary" and didn't find anything before I posted it EDIT: Oh, they didn't quote the article at all.
  13. MAURICE John has learned a useful lesson — don't sing when you get a canary. The car-crazy 22-year-old from St Albans collected a police "major defect notice" in South Yarra that deemed his Nissan 200 SX convertible unroadworthy. The yellow notice — known as a "canary" — was stuck to his windscreen by Acting Sergeant James Robbins of the Stonnington traffic management unit. John got pinged for two bald tyres at 11pm on August 12 last year at a roadblock in Chapel Street, but Acting Sergeant Robbins generously gave him an hour to get home rather than have his car towed away. John stupidly didn't take up the chance, choosing instead to drive on and party on. Unbeknown to police, John was a disqualified probationary driver who gave a false name. Two days later, under his user-name MR-GTIR/S15, John shared his Saturday night experience with users of the nissansilvia.com car club internet chat room and boasted of his getaway. He wrote: "Saturday night, cruising through Chaps looking for a car park so I can go 2 Chasers! The usual cops that are always kickin back in front of Chasers/KFC, wasting taxpayers money … "I got done for having 2 semi-racing slicks on the back which were a little bit bald! Motherf---ers. It was 11pm. The officer gave me till midnight to get the car home or it would have to be towed! I tried negotiating with him 2 let me drive it tomorrow, but didn't happen. "Anyways they let me go. I was more pissed off that I had 2 go home & get another car when Im in front of my destination. "So, instead I go around the block & park in the multi-level car park behind KFC … Walked straight in and rocked all night!" John signed off by revealing that he peeled off the notice and "then busted home!" It was revealed yesterday in Melbourne Magistrates Court that among the visitors to the chat room was the diligent Acting Sergeant Robbins, who regularly scans such sites as part of the unit's investigative work. When John pleaded guilty to five offences — including two charges of driving while disqualified — his lawyer Tony Danos said Acting Sergeant Robbins recognised his client "as the one he pulled up the night before". Mr Danos said John should have known better, but decided to "have an evening out and boast about it on the website, which brought him undone". Magistrate Angela Bolger said driving while disqualified was regarded as a contempt of the law and a prison sentence was mandatory for a second offence. John was jailed for one month, the term suspended for 12 months, fined $400 and had his licence cancelled for a year. "We all await with interest the posting tonight on the web," Ms Bolger commented. John, who regards himself as a "spirited driver" rather than a hoon, later told The Age he was "shattered". "There's a lot of people who will say bad luck, but (Acting Sergeant Robbins) got me off the road so, well done, he caught me," he said. Acting Sergeant Robbins told The Age the unit monitored car club websites as an intelligence-gathering exercise to follow car modifications, user conversations and to "monitor specific individuals". 14. Unfortunately that close mindedness is why BMWs can sell for a higher premium than Nissans. Reality may not be statistical, but unfortunately your brother's a marketing parasite so he doesn't live in reality.
  15. Would anyone consider a Quaife front diff (torsen type) and a 1.5 way Cusco / ATS clutch-pack type in the rear? That way you can get the progressiveness of a torsen LSD in the steering end, with a positive clutch-style engagement in the rear? Or would that just unbalance the car? That is assuming that Quaife makes a front diff for the GT-R.....
  16. CE's should look great on your car, as would RE30's.
  17. Any update on the pics? I am a little interested.
  18. www.wrx.org.au, or do they not like "lesser" Subarus? What about www.mrtrally.com.au? MRT loves Subarus and they're run by a proper workshop / rally team.
  19. If you get the cursive writing stickers too, you'll be up to 30kW.
  20. There are some companies that will let you rent a Smart ForTwo at $5 a day, but they're covered in advertising so you need to fit their "location criteria". I was tempted to put myself down for one, and if I could rent one for a few days get a custom catback made up (with no mufflers), a super-loud BOV, and one of those massive PC speaker kit that I could power off the ciggie lighter and go cruising the city on a Friday night in it.
  21. Imagine in two years what kind of condition it'll be.
  22. Yes, yes, I'm a bit of a 'tard.
  23. 10/8 is very stiff for a GTS-t, but with the right spring rates you'll be OK. My Z33 runs 12/12, but since they came in a coilover kit the ride is actually quite good. I get quite a few compliments from people who say my coilovers ride remarkably well on the road. What sized rims are you running? Bear in mind that the job of the suspension is to control the movement of the wheel, so the weight of the wheel you're running is also a consideration when it comes to optimal spring rates. I'm running 17" rims at the moment, and I found it a little bumpier than stock (but well within the bounds of acceptability for my intended purpose). But when I borrowed a mate's 18" rims with semi slicks, the ride actually smoothed out over corrugations contrary to the accepted rule that bigger rims and ultra-stiff R-Comp sidewalls decrease ride comfort. I remember reading somewhere that you can have wheels to big and heavy for your suspension, since your springs and dampers weren't engineered for that much unsprung weight and so its too slow to react. By the same token, having too little unsprung weight means your suspension will react too quickly as there's less inertia from the wheel, and your car ends up feeling oversprung and underdamped. Which is why my current rims are for sale, pending my 18's arriving. Its possible that 10/8 will be passable on 18-19" rims, as long as the dampers are well matched. I'm no suspension expert though, so this is all hearsay and personal experience.
  24. 'fraid not, dude. I just ordered 18" TE37s for the car.
  25. Its cool. As I said, I won't have new rims for at least 2 months so they might still be here when you've got the cash. The spot is Milsons Point / Kirribilli. The Harbour Bridge pylon pics are on top of the Harbour Tunnel air vents, and the Opera House pics are in front of Jeffrey St Wharf. The shot with the bridge and Opera House in the distance is McMahon's Point.
