blew my 25 bottom end about a year and a half ago, did the rb30 conversion myself, got the bottom end with 160,xxx on it for $90, used the timing belt from a 96 model vw something for $99 new, had an oil return welded into the sump for $10 and engine crane rental for the weekend was like $60 from memory.. so all up around $300, it's really not rocket science, definently check out the rb30 conversion thread at the top of this page. engine is still running strong pushing 250rwkw + 30,000km later and it's not had an easy life

i had the firing order mixed up, duh! thanks for your time anyway mate =]

Hey all, Just wondering if anybody has the pinout for the engine side of the r33 series 1 ignitor pack, more specifically which cylinder goes to which pin. I started installing a wasted spark setup, however I made the assumption that the "1 2 3 4 5 6" written on the top of the pack corresponded to the cylinder, when infact it must correspond to the firing order if this were the case then it should go cylinders 1 to 1, 2 to 2, 3 to 3, 4 to 6, 5 to 5, 6 to 4, but she still misfiring anyway thanks for your time marcus

if you were to use the 26 block you'd also need to block off the original and tap in an external oil supply for the vct, much the same as you would on an rb25/30, and also have the sump welded shut

is it possible to get somebody outside the car while you do a run past to see what the smoke smells like, atleast this will tell you if it's oil or running rich.. if it's running rich then it's in the tune, if it's oil then perhaps there is still too much oil in the sump and it's creating excess pressure which is causing oil to leak out past the turbo seals.. just a thought

haha, some of the responses here are pretty funny displacement isn't the be all and end all of an engine, the ls1 puts out more power than an rb26, yet it weighs less.. if you want to argue about emissions then you should probably get your facts straight first fuel + air = power, more power = emissions... then again IMO if this is selling for 120,000 the GTR is the clear winner when it comes down to bang for your buck..

hey mate nice car, bargain for that price! just curious to know why you decided to use the high comp pistons in the rebuild? anyway gl with the sale, free bump -
Rough Idle, Major Backfiring And Grey/blue/whitey Smoke
aphid replied to Mr_GaZZa's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
sounds like a combination of a few problems.. hissing sound would be a boost leak for sure, it it's coming from around the injectors make sure the injector O rings are seated in the manifold properly, if it smells like fuel at all around there this would probably be your problem.. the "WRX symtom" is more than likely a loose or dirty plug on one of the coils, or perhaps the transistor pack (if it's a series 1) ontop of the cam cover ornament.. blue smoke is usually oil, but if it smells like fuel then you probably mean black smoke, which would indicate the engine is running rich, which also points back to a boost leak hope i helped, marcus -
i've had similar symptoms to what you're describing.. turned out to be the engine temp sensor

Just A Question About Screamer Pipes
aphid replied to r33cruiser's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
You must agree though due to the laws of physics, an identical exhaust without the wastegate plumbed back into the exhaust (screamer pipe) is always going to flow better than an exhaust with the wastegate plumbed back.. -
actually it'll do the opposite, make the air less dense actually richening it, however because the combustion mixture is hotter it will reach it's flash point sooner and therefore knock easier get the car tuned asap, or if that's not financially viable do a little home tuning on the ignition map.. do a map trace to find out what cells the car is knocking in then retard the ignition in those sections.. Pauls PowerFC FAQ will tell you everything you need to know

lol i swear these forums are aj city.. i got half an hour into attempting to polish my gee reddy ripoff plenum before f**king it off today what do people usually use to get into all the nooks and crannies associated with plenums and more tricky jobs?

i might add - As you take off the car feels dead before about 3000rpm, where it feels as if something snaps and she takes off.. My initial thoughts were perhaps the BOV wasn't hooked up properly, as you here the turbo spooling fine and acceleration through the revs didn't feel consistant with the way the turbo was boosting (no boost gauge in the car so can't check it ) Further investigation revealed that because the car has been converted from N/A, there is no boost tap from the intake manifold for the BOV, and it has been T'd from the carbon canister.. This seemed to me a very logical explanation as the carbon canister could provide inconsistant pressure levels and could be letting the BOV stay even a slight bit open causing a measured boost leak.. When boost got to a certain level, or the space inside the carbon canister finally presurised, in this case at around 3000rpm the BOV would slam closed and air would no longer be escaping, hence the sudden jump in power output.. Timmy has told me now that he has tested this out and there has been no change in how the car drives, so that theory out the window although I would like to try it for myself It should also be noted that we tried the PowerFC out of my car inside his to check that all the sensors were fine and it wasn't the stock ECU shitting itself and doing the old rich n retard, so it's doesn't look like it's a computer issue either.. Just my 2 cents

actually there was a holden ute getting around that definently wasn't bought new by the police, but was being used by there hoon squad on thursday nights to come out and see what was going on, there was also a honda accord euro spec doing the same, but this was the current year model so it could have been bought new...

yeah, got done for teh illigal drifts out in the middle of an industrial district at 3am.. Cops rocked up while i was pulled over and a huge cloud of smoke behind me, didn't actually see me doing anything, but I was obviously guilty.. anyway they impounded my car and gave me the notice to appear in court for driving without due care and creating excessive smoke and noise (whatever it is), and at no point in time did they take a statement off me.. went to court, dressed in a suit unlike half the other drink driving bogans that were there, had my best mannerson show and remoursfully (sp), pleaded guilty. The magistrate then asked if I agreed with the cops statement from the night, which was actually complete bullshit, they'd written down that I was sideways doing over 100km/h, to which I said no that is incorrect.. the magistrate then went off her tits at me calling me an idiot and a few other things, making out that I was a complete tosser for wanting to spend my money on cars and the like, then said I was either lying to her face now or I lied to the police at the time.. I then told her that I had never actually signed any statements apart from the form handing my car over, she looked over the documents then said in a really low and threatening voice "Get out of my courtroom now before I take your license" and I didn't look back.. end of matter didn't even have to pay for the tow haha

Help Needed- Something Went Pop!
aphid replied to Duke's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
yup it's a cooler pipe for sure and if you popped a piston it wouldn't be idling for long -
marcus love you longer argh so jealouse, makes me think i should start dancing or atleast start investing my money the car even came with it's flare, how mint is that?! if you decide to get rid of that i call first dibs congrats and welcome to the forums!

New Fuel Pump! Is It Needed Near 200rwkw?
aphid replied to r32matt's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Best bet would be to change them out before they do go, as the density of compressed air/fuel in the combustion chamber increases, so does resistance, putting more load on the coil packs which will eventually cause them to fail Splitfires are proven to work but they're also a rip off.. If you're handy with electronics it doesn't take long to wire up 3 bommodore coil packs in a wasted spark type setup -
the laws of physics suggest otherwise.. A correctly designed and made muffler will have very little impedance on flow, but a pipe going straight through is always going to flow better

Hey guys, Just curiouse as to know whether or not the intake manifolds between the r33 rb25det head and the r34 rb25neo heads are interchangable? I would've thought that the ports would be pretty much the same but somebody has told me that they're different.. Just want to confirm Cheers, Mark

i must add - 5 seconds before the CAS came off the car was sideways between two others on i think turn 3 then BANG.. things could've been alot worse
