  1. But the mechanism which was pushed down needs to be moved into the up position. With the boot engaged in the locked position can I actually access that lever. I think the tongue from the boot lid prevents me from accessing it ?
  2. How can I open my boot, on my 1996 GTS skyline. Should I see a locksmith / panel beater / mechanic or is there a simple way to attend to this? My son was playing around with the boot mechanism and he pushed something into the down position. Now I can not open the boot from inside the cabin. It seems the cable has somehow been disengaged, when I pull on the lever as there is no resistance . The key hasn't opened the boot for many years so I just open it from inside the cabin. I think the lock was replaced many years back and no key came with it. It has opened flawlessly from inside the cabin. What are my options for fixing this. All my tools are in the boot. :verymad: :verymad: . Of course so is my spare Tyre. thanks in advance
  3. You can sue me if you want to but you don't have any contract with me so your case will fail ! Likewise the only defendant you could even possibly think of suing would be whoever you made a contract with. Buying at auction is very risky , but then again you can pick up things dirt cheap. So as mentioned earlier many of your rights are excluded when you buy at auction. Not what you wan tto hear. Best to give up now. good luck.
  4. I have had mine since 1998, coming up to 196,000km and I am very very very happy with it. Not sure why you want this as a first car. Boot is a bit small but I guess family isn't a consideration. Rear seat doesn't have a fold down for a surfboard. Question is , how well maintained is the one you want and what parts will need to be replaced in the next few years. Remember its 15 years young. Fuel is not as good as a modern car , and it likes premium better, but I have switched to LPG,anyway. I would choose a turbo if I had my choice again, but it has plenty of power to get you into trouble if you haven't had a lot of experience. The back is a bit light so be careful of it swinging out if you are careless driving. The 4 door is not allowed into Australia unless you have owned it overseas then requested a special dispensation to import it, unlike many of the other skyline models
  5. 40210-AL800 bearing replaced FLHS. Very quite Lifetime use should be in the region of eg 500,000km or more

  9. I definitely have a bearings problem at the very minimum. Making the turn right actually increases the sound on the left front bearing, because of the additional load , putting pressure on the left front bearing. must the unit be replaced or can a specialist bearing compAny fix it? What's the best solution and why? confirming part number is 40210 Al 800
  10. I cant work out if I Have a bearing problem, at the front left, or if my tyres are causing the noise. It sounds like a low rumble increasing with speed. No play in the wheels and turning left and right quickly at low speed doesnt seem to generate any significant noise or anything unusual. There is a slightly more rumble noise on the turning component of the tyres as they turn. i jacked up car and tried to move the wheels sideways but they seem pretty solid. No lateral movement. If I move the tyres backwards then forwards there is a slight clunk. Just roting the wheels they seem almost quiet.( it is not noiseless) Can I ask what tyres you are running . I am running 225 45 18 dunop venturo at 41 psi PSI is a bit high but from all repeort s this level gives better handling. What tyres are you running? What does your noise sound like ( any addtional details)
  11. I need to remove the carpet from the passenger side area. How do I do this without damage? There is a GPS unit installed which I have to access There are 2 screws holding the carpet near the feet which I removed . I can remove some plastic paneling near the door.......Almost. I cant pull the carpet away from the side wall. is this how it works . How much muscle should I use Does the aircon duct cover pull off/ slide off/in one piece and shouldn't be touched? I fear i will do damage and wont get it back to the original pristine condition.
  12. If the turbo pops/is stuffed, then what are the better options (rebuild/exact same replacement /better alternative replacement?) What sort of man-hours to remove and replace Turbo?
  13. Thanks Miguelone , BTW I have done 198000km in my 4 door gts skyline. great car I have series 2 , what is Type S?...................sedan?
  14. I guess my fuse is blown and I guess my cigarette lighter isn't working so I cant use my GPS. My fuse box is in Japanese on the RHS below the steering wheel. How do the fuses come out. Are they ejected by pushing a black button or do they come out one by one. I have unsuccessfully pulled fairly firmly but reluctant to use too much effort. Which fuse is the cigarette lighter and does anyone have a tranaslation of the Japanese characters for the other fuses?
  15. Lets say the oil needs changing , according to manufacturers specs and isn't changed! What noticeable signs or symptoms for the driver will show................( before the motor seizes and before significant damage.) (I tend NOT to do the kilometres but tend to change beyond 6 months and more likely 12 months or more. One car is just used occasionally on weekend eg, 120km to coast and back, whilst the other is a daily but still less than 5000km a year)
  16. Does the fuel gauge in a 1996 skyline GTS show the amount of fuel on the gauge even when the engine is off and the key is out , Thats what my gauge shows after having the fuel tank fuel pump replaced. I have been driving around but the gauge doesn't seem to want to drop.I will monitor it for a few more days , but what is a possible cause of this fault, of the gauge always reading full .(assuming I am not mistaken about when I last filled up.) Is the float part of the new fuel pump or is it a separate item inside the tank. As I run on LPG I haven't paid much attention to the petrol gauge.
  17. Its a 40 min drive, minimum, for me, there, and difficult to get back home if the car needs to be left there all day or over night.
  18. me to. Going to yatla is too far.
  19. Try this hypothetical problem. the car in question is bought and sold by 5 people in 5 days then you buy it based on the timing belt information you saw as per your post. will you still say the company who did the timing is still responsible? If you say yes, then at what point do they NOT become responsible. Unless their is a contractual relationship with Mr X ,you cant hold others responsible. That is the point you must understand. I know it sucks but you have to take the consequences when you buy at auction.
  20. I don't think you have any resolution possible since their are no contractual obligations existing with Mr X or his company and yourself. How could they perform fraud on you when they don't even know you!? Only the prior owner,I dont mean the Auction House, would be the person to have recourse against Mr X or the Company. You were fortunate to get any money out of the company. Also buying at auction means you are not covered by the trade practices act so unfortunately its Caveat Emptor( Buyer beware).Auctions are exempt the normal laws which protect consumers.
  21. Any updates on LPG fuel consumption? On a Melbourne -Brisbane return trip I got around 13.9 litre/100km, with luggage on the roof on my return trip with 4 passengers and luggage loaded with family. The modification of a dump pipe seems to have given it acceleration like a rocket with the turbo winding up much earlier !
  22. your LPG figure,11-12 litre/100km , looks way too high. It shouldn't be between 15% and 30 % at most of ULP
  23. Small cars and country wild life could be a disaster, Xenon lights are a must if you leave after work
  24. My 1996 skyline GTS speedo, odometer and tacho meter in the cluster are not functioning properly or not at all. Where near indooroopilly or Sherwood can I get this cluster attended to. I am not game to take it out and risk getting a second hand unit , I believe there was a place of sherwood rd but I cant locate it
