They were never going to get 90 entries for Calder, it is generally 50-60 max. An no, Calder was going to be much more than $10,000 to run, that's the stupid thing about all this.

Guys, Let me give you my perspective having the organised the WRX championship with some other people for a couple of years. Calder, and most other tracks for that matter, started charging clubs 50% upfront on the booking of tracks about 2 years ago. A track day costs a minimum of $10k to run, so you need to fork out $5k up to 10 months in advance (Calder) if you get a date late in the year. Now multiply this by a few track days and it becomes untenable for car club, even the size of the WRX club (600 members) to justify such a huge financial commitment. We pushed back on a lot of these requests for advanced payment and won a few, but also lost a few, putting bookings at risk as well. Sandown, P.I. and Winton have come to their senses I suspect, however as we all know, Calder are now pricing themselves out of the club track day market. To run the WRX Calder day on the fifth of July was going to cost $350 per entry to make it viable on what Calder was quoting. Unless Calder management pull their collective heads out of their collective ar$e's, the WRX club will never go there again. I'll be talking to Neil Choi from the ALFA club and Lindsay Coleman from the Marque Sports Car Club to see what their thoughts are, as I go to alot of their days. If anyone knows the m/sport directors of any other clubs, it would be good to get their opinion on Calder as well. At the end of the day, there will always be a championship at the WRX club, yes it will be smaller as there are now fewer dates to go around the same number of clubs. I suspect, and I have said this in a previous post, that there will be fewer individual events being put on as well, as entries start to dry up (V-Power Racing fuel will be $2.00 before XMAS I'm sure of it). So Jesus ( I love that) - what this club needs to do is probably start talking to other clubs in preparation for next year to piggy back off their events, if we want to run an 8 or 9 round championship, as the WRX club will not have that many rounds next year. I'll let everyone know what these other clubs thinks when I am able to chat to the relevant m/sport people. Regards Andrew

Ok, is it just me or is everyone else LOL at the most prominant tool on the bench being a 12inch shifter?

I have been thinking about giving BBGTR some love as the mechanical bits are finished, however the body needs a bit of attention. Then what do I get in the mail tonight, a business card from MICOLOUR sent by SAU. Nice one!!! They look like they do good work judging by Anthony Snellings' car. Over the Christmas break we will see if it can't be brought back to an acceptable standard.

I'm going down to P.I. for the AROCA track day on the 5th. Need to get a full day in to see what my car can do with dry weather and number 3 big end working the way it should

Hi, I have been using Pagid RS-14 (Black) race pads for years and really like them. I'm up for a new set and note that they have a new compound out, the RS-15, that is supposed to have 20% more friction than that RS-14's with the same rotor friendly properties. Has anyone used these and what are your thoughts? Regards Andrew

Yep, totally agree. Having used a plug-in Autronic on my MY00 STi they were the bees nees. Good luck in the new venture.

eye carumba - the hair. My 16 month old daughter doesn't even have that much. Just saw this thread. Glad we caught up at Sandown as I knew it was close. Now get working on number 2, she needs a pit crew.

ok cool, the link now works. But no flames shot for me By the way, nice concept and look forward to the show

linky no worky....

An extra 40kw does wonders - more straight line speed outweighed less corner speed and reduced braking performance.
-
Sorry, probably gave the wrong impression. My braking force was down on last year, just have a look at the minimum longitudinal G's - they are 1.34 for Sunday and I was getting over 1.41 G last year. I had a scan back to some old data and I have never got 1.5G's under brakes on any track is what I should have said, at least in the data that I have saved. I agree with turn 2, a few times I thought I was going into the ditch, I just turned right and hoped for the best. With the shitty corner grip I was getting, I was getting lousy exit speeds, no doubt giving me a lower top speed. I was not pushing the car after the spin as I wanted to drive home.

Some data from the day - unfortunately for me, my fastest session (session 3) hasn't logged properly so no comparison base for next time - I'll be flying blind! Best theoretical time with all fastest logged sectors was 1.20.6 - shows how inconsistent I was on the day with a fastest of 1.21.8, blah... Looking at lat and long G ratings the track wasn't as bad as it felt as I have never recorded more than 1.5G's under brakes (1.41 G's last year, however my pads were nearly shagged on Sunday and should have changed them) although the corner loads were down at bit, would normally see 1.35 - 1.4 G
-
New PB for me at Sandown - 1.21.8 New engine is the only real change - power about 365kw ATRW (detuned from 377KW for circuit)

Good to see all you blokes finally entered, at one stage I thought I was going to be there by myself. Ditto on the health of the car, after P.I. I was a shattered man - but now.... Track was diabolical down the back, I looped coming out of VB corner and saw Matt come down mega crossed up and just prayed he missed me, which he did After locking up my rear sub frame the car feels as if it has too much rear bar or not enough front - very taily, but it could have been the track too. Was looking to match Snowmans times given what are pretty equal cars (from what I know) but alas, in the last session he bent me over. It's good to have a carrot though.
-
We will get at least 4 sessions, generally 5 sessions as most people pull the pin late in the day so you rarely leave feeling short of track time. 13 GT-R's and counting

Best $1,200 I ever spent. I have never gone to a track with it and gone slower at the next attempt when the car specs were identical. DL1 FTW!

I'm in. Car is ready after a bit of unscheduled maintenance and a visit to the EPA.

da-da!! Racepace FTW

Does it turn over on the starter with the plugs pulled? Does your fuel pump prime on ignition? You have spent a sizable chunk of cash on your motor, why not take it to someone who knows what they are doing before pulling the motor?
-
was thinking about it, however going to the WRX day at sandown instead.

Hmmmmm.
