interesting post and im quite interested after comparing the 2 pistons on the acl site. http://www.aclperformance.com.au/NissanRB3...rgedPistons.htm RB30 http://www.aclperformance.com.au/NissanRB2...rgedPistons.htm RB25 in the previous page its mentioned that some height needs to be taken off the rb30 block for the 25 pistons to work. how does that affect compression ratio's in general and how much needs to be taken off. looking at the heights there you would assume .7mm. is that correct? im trying to keep to acl pistons as im told by the distributor that they are made by ross and i can get them for cost (pistons + rings are around 600bucks). as i want to go for 350kws atw i think its probably a better idea early on considering the cost vs forgies and replacements and the fact my block needs to be bored already.

i think the sad reality is that the gtr just got smoked some civics and the like are incredibly fast. there are a couple here in nz that look standard and run low 11's / high 10's. sure the gtr is a great car but that doesnt automatically mean that because you own one means that your instantly fast. thats almost adopting the holden v8 drivers mentality

im going to get flamed for this one but the sr20 is a better engine. it has vvt, a higher compression ratio, heaps more torque so rightfully produces more power. it takes a heap of supporting mods to get a t28bb up to 220rwkws however. (i also own an s14k's so know a little about them) realistically you would only expect 200kws atw on an sr vvt engine that doesnt have things like exhaust manifold, upgraded afm, cams etc etc if you think about it the rb26 is nissans flagship 6 cylinder engine whereas the sr is their flagship 4 cylinder engine. building the rb20 better than the sr doesnt make sense from a marketing prospective.

for outright power id also be inclined to go for one turbo as opposed to 2 when you look at some of the faster gtr's they all seem to be running single turbos. 2 that come to mind are reece mcgregors 7 second monster and the gms mag n turbo gtr thats running low 8's also on a single when you consider they only run one wastegate, one exhaust etc it would be cheaper in the long run and looking at the times those cars produce, faster also

a t28 will be a downgrade they come standard on the likes of the s14/s15's. think 2.0 4 cylinder vs 2.5 6 cylinder and compare them side by side and the rb25 turbo is quite a bit bigger

cheers for the information, certainly helps ill take my block to the engine rebuilder tomorrow and get them to measure the pistons and see what they think. friends meant to be piecing the engine together for me howver isnt so confident on the amount of movement the pistons are making in the bores. the next size of piston i can get is .5 oversize which would then be 20thou over meaning ive got plenty of room for movement. now to just figure out whether im going forged or na rb30e pistons and finding the part numbers (a small mission)

how does the thou comparison work compared to mm's eg what is 10 thou in mm's?
-
jap performance in wellington do them think the site is japaneseperformance.co.nz or gtrshop.co.nz is the other half of their business
-
that sounds very good and means i dont need to throw out my block will most manufacturers of pistons stock up to 30 thou over as i sem to find 10 being the limit on what i have seen? please give me links to correct me if you can

Ive got my rb30 block here all ready to have pistons bought for it however noticed on one of the pistons a marking of 10. Im presuming this means there are 10thou oversized pistons in there. There is slight piston slap (movement in one piston) so im wanting to know what i can do with this block or is it more worthwhile to simply buy another one. Sleeving it could certainly be an option however with the blocks around 150 bucks i dont see that being a huge issue.

one of the leading turbo experts here in nz swears by the mitsi turbos (trust or greddy dont make them) ive seen plenty of examples on evo's where the td06 turbos are flowing better than the garrett gt equivilant. they are both a good turbo and im sure both of them would do the trick and nicely. i also agree that new technology isnt always best. its more about getting a turbo that has well proportioned wheels/housings etc the garrett gt2540 is a great example of a new turbo with poorly proportioned wheels and housings and subsequently its a lag monster.

when re ringing an engine where do people get their chromoly rings from also? have been quietly tossing up whether to just go standard pistons still set on the forgies just interested?
-
the reason i have always wanted to go forged pistons is im planning on running a gt3540 or t66 at around 25psi and going for 350+kws. the more rugged the piston the better as im also going to be entering it in a number of burnout competitions. ive also got acl race bearings for the build, aftermarket valve springs, gtr headgasket, and will be running (most probably) a r33 gtr pump with oil restrictor(one blocked and a 1.5mm restrictor). 700cc gtr sard injectors with gtr resistor pack what are the pro's and con's of decking the block etc. in laymans term is this like shaving it? with the CP pistons ive also been told that they dont come with rings which would be extra?

why do u guys need to hide them (from nz)?

ive just come up with a wee dilemma unfortunately right down at the stage when my engine was going to go off to the shop to be machined on placing order of my pistons the chick at the shop couldnt find the code on her computer. id previously been told by a rebuilder here that acl make a good cheap forged piston for the rb30/25 engine transplant. i rung the distributor who gave me the part number 6mkry9608. when speaking to the distibutor he informed me this was a new piston and would end up with a compression ratio of 8.5 on the rb25de head. he seemed very knowledgable and spent ages talking to me on the phone about the pistons. i never thought to question it. i liked the idea of acl as the girl i know whos at repco gives me her staff discount which obviously saves a lot of money when building a forged engine. i went home now and checked them to find they are the rb30et pistons and would give me a horrible 7.1 comp ratio http://www.aclperformance.com.au/tech_p_cast.htm they make a standard pistons for the na rb30 also part no 6mkry9301 (Not listed on their site) however this isnt forged. what i was wanting to know is part numbers for other piston manufacturers that make forged pistons for this conversion. i know cp do and cubes has mentioned wiseco do (one place i rung previously said they were also 7.1 ratio) but was wanting to know all the others and specific part numbers for these. cheers

Using An Rb26dett Power Fc On An Rb20det
SirRacer replied to armbrusb's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
keep us posted on how this goes as im also interested in adapting some kind of power fc to my car -
you would want to go wrecker hunting and find an rb30 block. otherwise i can only envisage it being a waste of time
-
i think you are very correct so thanks for the post when looking at them from a distance the 1 isnt visable however upon further inspection it is, thanks for the info ours both seem to be covered in paint overspray which hinders the numbers
-
hey there, ive just brought some sard 700cc rb26 injectors and wanted to check their validity. ive searched for a long time through google trying to find the part number just to confirm what they are. i wont be able to have them flowed and checked for a while hense the reason to do this they have a blue cap and are denso part 95500-0830. so far i have only found people who "think" they might be this and that any help would be great cheers

Electronic Boost Controller Is The Best?
SirRacer replied to double overhead sun visors's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
ive got a mate who installed one of the new greddy e01's into an evo8 (was living in jpy at the time and had hks kansai do it) and it just couldnt hold the boost to save itself. he then took it off and installed a evc and everything was fine. personally i run the old style profec b and absolutely love it. the boost curve you could also draw a line with a ruler its so level and easy to adjust. dont really need all the fancy features so havent needed them as yet -
badr33 car sounds very good. heard it drive off saw it down at petone the other day after the 2hot2handle cruise i think. was in the black s14 k's
-
the initial 7 second pass has a low trap speed as the trans wouldnt shift into top gear. incredibly impressive considering this reece now has a new turbonetics turbo system on board and will soon be knocking on the hks drag gtrs times. the r33 doesnt conform to any class regulations so in some respects they really cant be compared

have you got any oil pumps to go with the adaptor? -
Wts : Used Rb26 Nissan Oil Pump
SirRacer replied to FATGTR's topic in For Sale (Private Car Parts and Accessories)
are these still for sale? im interested in taking the r33 oil pump, where in Au are you located? arent they also different hense the need for an apaptor on r32 gtr crank? please pm me re this -
had anyone yet been able to confirm what oil pumps are reccomended for what power levels?
