  1. On my car i drain the water from the turbo around the front of the engine where the gtr's do as stock. Otherwise you end up draining hot water back into the block which isnt a hugely smart idea. This here gives you a good idea. 30e pump will be fine but id sleeve it just to be sure. Its 150 bucks so why not. I got my Tomei restrictor from nengun.com but i think you can find them on trademe now. If not go into an engine reconditioner and ask them to make you one with a 0.5mm hole. Block the front and put this one in the rear (or other way round, check this out).
  2. If my problem continues im going to get a low pressure pump to feed the surge tank. Ive been told by a few different people that this works well.
  3. This problem is incredibly common with RB's and 044's. I myself have this problem with my car. I put in a fuel cooler in front of the grill to temporarily see whether it worked and it does, however im still not too confident about having a few litres of fuel hanging off the front of my car. By doing this, my surge tank no longer retained the heat it use to, and my caviation and fuel cutting problems seemed to go away. It would still occasionally cut when the car got quite hot. Ive since changed pumps to one i know doesnt cut and will remove the fuel cooler and test to see whether it was perhaps just a dodgy pump.
  4. I personally think they are just taking you for a ride, it was probably their fault but they know you really cant do much about it so have decided to charge you to rebuild it. Its a lot of hassle to get an independant person to look at it then take it to a small claims court, but then you would probably at least get your money back. That said, id say you have probably done $1200 bucks worth of damage to GCG's reputation as a result, so dont feel too bad.
  5. I think its a little easier with the 1.06 housing as well due to the shape. Im not a massive fan of how mine looks and may heatwrap the screamer pipe to make it look a tad tider, but the cars a race hack so i shouldnt care too much. I brought this housing brand new for 250NZD from a friend who didnt use it, but i think they are normally 450AUSish. Its cheaper to weld into the housing and replace it if you ever sell the turbo than spend a huge amount on a 60mm wastegate.
  6. Here are a couple of before/after pictures of my engine after putting the gate out the housing. Pretty much identifical to r33 racers setup. Works brilliantly as well my car now holds boost to the psi right up to redline.
  7. Ive got the manual here and nothing about 25psi. 21psi is the 7psi inner spring (mine is yellow but the manual says they are orange) and the 14psi outer spring (manual says red but mines orange) measurements of the springs (best way to know what they are) 7psi inner spring - length 78.0mm (says orange , mines yellow) 7 psi outer spring - 91.0mm (i dont have this one) 10 psi outer spring - 96.00mm (says yellow, however mines red) 14psi outer spring - 90.00mm (says red, however mines orange) hope that helps. Cheers
  8. On the last page i posted a picture of the Heat Treatments Racing Gtr. For those that dont know, this is the car that holds the GTR world record. It has the wastegate mouted off the exhaust housing due to better boost control. If the fastest rb26 in the world has issues with controlling boost (or its so much better from the housing), id say its probably not solely a manifold issue.
  9. i also wonder whether having the gate coming out of the housing is much better for spool. considering the fact that exhaust gas spools the turbo, having it run through the exhaust housing (and therefore wheel) rather than been bled off, must be a tiny little bit better flow and responce wise?????
  10. ive got a 30/25 in my a31 although i do have a laurel bonnet on it. it fits cutting a little bit out of the bonnet even with the stock rb25 plenum. nice to see another one anyway.
  11. Thanks mate, that looks good. I found another from the Heat Treatments world record holding GTR. This is from their new turbo setup (looks nasty). http://www.htlracing.co.nz/images/200935020th002_008.jpg - I thought the distance between the housing and the gate is quite interesting.
  12. do you have any pictures mate. would love to see how it looks
  13. dont know if these will be of any help to this situation, but they will to someone eventually
  14. you dont have any pics of your modifications do you trent? would be interesting to see how they look. will have a search now for that thread also and leave up a link if i can find it.
  15. here is an original picture of the manfold. URAS do you have any pics of your modified ones, would be interesting to have a look. id also be keen to have a look at a few that are straight out of the housing. its since had the wastegate pipe moved further into the gas flow, and ive upgraded for a 48mm gate (from a 44). i think just putting it off the housing will solve the problem once and for all hopefully. the manifold maker has been mucking around with this for ages now and i dont really want to spend the $$$ on a 60mm gate even though that will fix the problem. will be interesting to see what sort of power i can get. 8.5 comp ratio with stock r32 head with valve springs and camgears 1.06 housing. 310kws came on the .82 on 19psi.
  16. how do you guys control boost with those sort of setups? wastegate mounted off the exhaust housing? i changed from a .82 to 1.06 (havent yet retuned) and added a bigger gate (44 to 48mm) and it started to boost creep madly from there.
  17. Yeap, i installed the spring myself. Its the red one, although it measures the same as the orange one. Has anyone had boost control issues when changing housings?
  18. The turbo manifold had heaps of problems and would overboost with the Tial, so the manifold maker put the wastegate feed pipe more into the manifold. I didnt drive the car but this apparently fixed the problem, but it creeped a little bit (ie 3 psi). Whilst the car was in the shop i changed exhaust housings to the bigger one and gates to the 48mm Turbosmart. The spring in the gate says 14psi and my car happily hits 21psi before i back off as its too nuts really to test on an open road.
  19. What do u mean by that mate? Its one of the older series gates and the only options are to change the spring. Its mounted in a real dog of a position so i was hoping to get some feedback prior to changing springs etc.
  20. check the afm, my guess is its that
  21. To the guy with the GSR, i hope you know the GSR is actually the heavier version. Nice cars though. You can get one in NZ for around 6k at the moment. My car ran 11.9 with 310kws and a boost problem. That was on M/T Et Streets with a best 60 foot of 1.7. First time racing this car so times should improve on that.
  22. Hi all. I have recently upgraded my turbo from a .82 3540 to the bigger 1.06 housing. Feels one hell of a lot faster thats for sure. At the same time i also had the offer to swap my Tial 44 to a Turbosmart 48mm gate as i was getting a bit of creep. Its in there now and i only got to drive it for the first time today. Questions: The manual pdf from turbosmart themselves gives completely different spring colours to the sizes when i measure them. Ie the spring that is plainly orange in their books should be Red. A friend also has a similar gate and has this same problem. The spring in there at present is meant to be the 14psi spring, however my car is boosting happily to 21psi before i back off due to running out of road. Id rather try and figure this out before sending it to a dyno operator to test and bill me accordingly. Are these spring issues normal, and what experiences are others having with these gates? Ive got it plumbed as per the manual with no boost controller on it as yet. The Tial did hold boost and im a bit suprised this one doesnt seem to (or isnt accurate to the spring sizes) Love to hear any comments
  23. Hi disco, i ended up tracking one down so will post up the part number for everyone. Its Volvo 202711 and its definitley a big ugly plastic filter. Is there anything else i could use (that may be a little nicer looking) that would go into the feed lines instead of the surge to pump line.
  24. Hi all, Ive got a fuel setup in the boot of my car that I would like to have another fuel filter installed. From the surge tank to the pump i run a half inch line and would like to put a fuel filter in there. Otherwise im quite happy to mount something into the -6 hose from the fuel tank into the surge tank, however dont know what i could use that would work and not cost the earth. My 044 has particles of stuff from my tank lodged in it, so obviously the sock isnt quite doing the job 100% Any advice would be great. Cheers
  25. Hi mate, feel free to ask any questions re tuners. Have had a few cars done over the years
