  1. The big plus side of having compatable international rules in all series is the fact that cars can travel overseas and have a good run at it. Building cars for each of the series to compete in other countries is too much. Noel makes a good point, those front running cars are very cool too watch. I think this year has changed the game, NEMO racing did an insane job of resetting the benchmark. I don't like the idea of making rules to ban cars but another class may be in order, AERO class or PROTOTYPE class to put these cars in. Making rules is never easy but could incorporate the footprint of the car, such as no more than 10%(?) extra width / length protruding, tube frames etc. As hrd-hr30 said maybe slicks allowed in that class also, as the aero etc has taken them way out of the realm of tuned street cars.
  2. It was a great event, congrats to the organisers. I was there with Mark Berry and his team from Wed lunch time practice. The R32 GTR did have AWD problems on the first couple of days. It was very frustrating but ended up being hydraulic issues. Once it was sorted, the car spoke for itself. Putting down a 1:34.66 was beyond all our expectations (it was basically the same car as last year with 40kw more). We were really just hoping to get into the 1:35's. If you look at last years times, the 1:34.66 would have been first place in open class. Mark said he loved the AWD Controller II, and that it allowed him to find the balance of the car and get the power down early. I was stoked that he loved it so much, having my product tested and proven at the top level feels pretty good. The R34 GTR was a totally different setup. As Mark had removed the ATTESA out of the car, I had to design a complete new system for it. Anyone who saw the car run last year and then this year saw the results. The car got the power down and we were pulling over 2G lateral (my sensor tapped out at 2G as in the design stage Mark thought we would not see that sort of load). The car was capable of a low 1:29 but we didn't get to put that down at the event. We were having temperature problems which seem to be due to aero and Mark was running the lower power setting all weekend. Even so, on one lap we had a sector time almost 2sec quicker as Mark headed around the back of the track, the temp rocketed and he had to back out. Our final attempt was stopped short due to the oil down of the Cyber car. The Pro 1 group was cancelled for the clean up, and the track was slippery after that. Working with Mark Berry and being on his team for the weekend was awesome. Those guys are very professional and worked together as a well oiled team, making me feel welcome from the outset. It was an experience I will not be forgetting for a long time !! I was speaking to Mark today and he said there are no secrets and that I can post up data logging etc from the event. I will put together a write up and get it up on the web. Paul Ruzic

  8. Hey Everyone, The 2012 season is about to commence so I thought I better put up a post about what we are doing this year. The calendar is up at www.timeattack.com.au and has 17 events listed !! We are running 2 full 5 Round Series, one at QLD Raceway and one at Lakeside. These are points based and the new classes for this year are up on the website. We have doubled the classes from previous years having the breakdown Street / Performance / Outright for each class group. The class Extreme Performance has also been added to capture the top end cars like Mark / Drew's R35 GTRs etc. See http://www.timeattac...nt/view/87/136/ The AWD Shoot Out event was very popular last year so we are running one at QR and one at LAKESIDE. We have also added RWD shoot outs as these guys wanted in on the action as well. The ANNUAL NISSAN EVENT will run again for its 4th consecutive year. This event keeps getting better and better. You may have seen coverage in last months Performance Imports magazine. Scattered between these events are timed practice sessions and 2 sessions on the National track at QLD Raceway for those who want to put down a time on the big track. I invite you to check out the website and if you want to get involved this year, email me at [email protected] See you at the track !! Paul Ruzic
  9. Hey Guys, only have a few spots remaining now at Feb 4 Lakeside event. Email me on [email protected] if you want to join us at the track Paul
  10. Yes I can get aftermarket sensors and the ones I supply I have the calibration tables for ready to go. They are all quality sensors, Bosch, VDO etc. On the number of points for Oil Press vers RPM, I understand what you mean by having points every 1000rpm but in practice this would probably become troublesome. Tuning the 4 points can take a couple of tweaks as on the track the oil pressure does drop slightly as the oil gets hotter. We tuned the 4 on the dyno, then had to adjust them again at the track with fine tuning. On Alarm Acknowledgement, when an alarm goes off the screen shows that alarm "LOW OIL PRESSURE", if more than one alarm goes off they are in the priority order you assign to them. With up to 4 on the screen. If you have assigned the Alarm Light, Buzzer or both to an alarm it will go off. You have two choices for clearing it: 1. Set the auto clear mode, this will clear the alarm once it has gone automatically. With this mode there is a user settable minimum hold time, so you dont get an alarm flicker (such as oil surge) and then when you look at the screen nothing is there. Set the hold to 5 or 10 sec and you will always have the chance to glance at the screen and see what the alarm was. 2. Set the alarms to only clear when you press the acknowledge button. Then they will hold until you clear them.
  11. LAKESIDE, Sat FEB 4. TIMED PRACTICE LAPS Hi Guys, Welcome back for 2012 !! The first event of the year is at Lakeside. It is a Timed Practice session. I have added a few of these through the year for new guys to come and have a go and for the experienced racers to get some testing done. As always the groups will be based on lap times, so if you are new and just want to have a go let me know and I will put you in the correct group. This year all track days will run both AM and PM sessions with 4 Groups of cars in each half day. This will ensure plenty of clean laps and sessions during the day. You will get 4 runs on the track of comprising of 7 laps (1 warm-up, 5 hot, 1 cool down) per half day at Lakeside. Driver training is available at events if I get the minimum bookings to get the instructor. If you are interested in training please let me know ASAP so I can secure the trainer. If you have any questions about the events please send me an email. I hope to see you at the track !! LAKESIDE EVENT INFORMATION Morning Session: Arrive 7:45am. 12. There is a serial port connection on the unit. It is used to connect to a Laptop to set up the unit, download calibration data etc. You can set all the alarms etc from menu screens as well. I usually put in the calibration tables for you if I know the car and sensors being used. The serial connection can also be used to connect to the datalogger for logging the EM PRO II information. It will now also be used to connect to a GPS for the lap timing option. The EM PRO II unit is $499, comes with two stage shift light and warning light and alarm buzzer. Also includes looms and external buttons. I will have to get current 2012 pricing on all the sensors etc. I can get Oil Pressure Sensor, Oil Temp Sensor, Oil Sensor Spacer Plate, Intake Temp Sensor, Water Temp Sensor (usually just sniff factory though), Fuel Pressure Sensor, Boost Sensor. If you have an aftermarket ECU (such as my GTR runs a HALTECH) you can copy the calibration tables from it into the EM PRO II and sniff off their sensors). I have tried to make the sensor interface as flexible as possible.
  13. It uses individual inputs for the channels. You can either sniff off factory sensors such as water temp, or add new sensors. Usually you sniff water temp, add Oil Temp, and Pressure sensors, (add / sniff air temp depending on car), add fuel pressure and boost sensors. The unit lets you put in the calibration points, its easy Voltage versus value. I have the calibration tables for a lot of sensors and if there is one I don't have I can do the table if you send me the sensor then add it to the available list. It does not do knock as per PFC. It will have the Lap Timing feature in it with the new ones that are coming now. That is what I am adding over the Christmas break. The guys at STZ Auto have one of my data loggers and will also have the new EM PRO II in their race car for testing etc. On a side note they are also testing my tyre pyro unit (3 sensors for tyre temps across tyre surface) that interfaces into my logger. To use the Lap Timer a GPS signal will be required. Some of the features I have added that I think are "nice" are the advanced oil pressure alarm that allows you to put in 4 pressure points against RPM points. That way you dont have to wait until you have a minimum oil pressure (such as 10psi) while the engine is still at 7000rpm (for example, set that point up at 60psi). The other one is the fuel pressure alarm that is linked with boost, you put in the rising regulator scale factor and the fuel pressure is tracked against the air pressure in the engine. Again getting a much more accurate alarm.
  14. Yes I did finished it !! I am currently building another 10 units now. Ordered the PCB's the other day. Its like you read my mind

  21. Hey Harry got to agree on the tyre ruling. At this years AWD Shoot out we ran different rules to the usual Time Attack series which included a tyre wear rating, and the guys were very happy with the classes. I have had a lot of good feedback and will be basing next years series rules on it.
  22. Send me a PM or email [email protected] very happy to help you get started etc and get you involved with our track days !! Paul
  23. Still got places at this event if anyone want to join us. Just email [email protected] or shoot me through a PM.
  24. I will be there driving or shot gun this year. Also put me down for donating 2 x Half day track days at QLD Raceway TIME ATTACK for the raffle. Great charity and love to help out. Paul
  25. Yes its coming. Takes a little while to build one of these systems. I should have some screen shots etc and a better idea of when the first one will be testing in the next few weeks. Its progressing well so far.
