When you say upgrade the alternator wiring, could you elaborate a bit more?

Had this problem myself, I took off the needles, started the car, then while idling put the needle back on so that it read 0km. Next I got the girlfriend to take her car, we went on the street, side by side and checked 10k, 20k, 30k, etc, just to make sure they were spot on... Worked for me, hopefully should sort your problem out too!

That "knocking" behind the radio sounds like a common fault in 33's which has to do with the aircon unit, do a search and it will surely come up with some results. To fix it, you need a $60 odd part and a bit of patience but it is doable
