If ur catch can is connected to the air intake of the turbo, try just having that line breathing to atmosphere so there is no vaccuum action sucking the oil from the head.
If the problem is still there try get some cam cover baffles. I think tomei make them. Helps stop the oil making its
Way out
Try fitting it together without the diaphragm and see what is stopping it from going together tight. U need to measure the gap (crush) that the mating surfaces have and then
Measure the thickness of the diaphragm.
This should tell u if there is a design issue.
There must be something stopping it in between the surfaces
yes i have thought of that, but on the circuit most cars without the cooling mods run at an even higher temperature than designed, you also need to take oil viscosity into consideration when talking about tolerances
It might have driven perfectly without it. But with it it should be even better.
He should know what pinging sounds like. Its hard for us to diagnose sounds. We are just giving possible causes
Even a few taps of piston to valve will bend the valves. If it hasnt been damaged yet then it might not be contacting.
Try turning the vtc on at a lower rpm and see if the noise is still there.
It might be pinging
does it only happen with a full tank? i have heard of the carbon canisters syphoning fuel out of the tank, never seen it myself but been told.
can you see anywhere that its leaking from?
By changing the cam gears u affect the tune alot with a d jetro due to the map sensors, if it was using airflow meters it wouldnt be as bad.
Try pitting the cam gears back and see if it fixes it. Then readjust them when u tune it
Steve after looking at ur airbox yesterday its a pretty poor design how they have the top filter just sitting in there. It needs to have a lip underneath the filter not just on top. If u fitted an underside lip and also a thin t bar crossing underneath also it will fix ur issue and not create any flow restriction
