i've had a similar problem before... my problem was that the timing was out just a fraction, but enough to make my car stall... i got the timing adjusted and set the idle a little higher...
i have an AVCR and it is awesome! does not spike at all... a lot of people like the blitz and HKS units as well as the profec B... i think if you use one of those you are getting a good unit... depends on your budget i suppose...
i recommend EKW thats where i got my boot badge from after someone stole it... only cost me $65 then about $30 to get the lock adapted to my key (from a locksmith)...
I have always taken my cars (current and old) here for any electrical work... it's out west but still quite far from melton...

i just got tyres from bob jane in box hill... gave me a great price on 235/45/r17's (Goodyear RevSpecs) they also have a 4ws alignment machine there...
i love all the versions and play it as often as i can... my local arcade just put an old skool copy of super street fighter 2 :D i have a few versions psx/ps2 as well...
I thought the timing for an RB25DET was 15 deg. I'm pretty sure thats what the Nissan sticker says under my bonnet. i have a very smooth idle... it has been set to 740rpm... according to my rsm it is never more then +-10rpm!!!
