Will 255/40zr17's Fit On A 17x7.5" Rim
salad replied to WTF-33R's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Not recommended. 235/45 are bulgy enough on 7.5" rims. -
Yeah, around ~1.41 was the time I recorded. It's very hard to drive without brakes, I'll be the first to tell anyone that. It's better that you backed off instead of trying to keep pushing like I did last time. Your brakes are still usable...

Good fun day Few skylines out there too, mostly in the 1day licence group. Managed a best lap of 1.24.1, Oh so close to my goal of getting into the 23s. Probably could've done it with another session, but pads were getting low and so was fuel, didn't want to chance it. The Lucas pads are OK, the pads themselves didn't seem to fade heaps, but it was noticable after 5 or 6 laps, but no where near the fade of the Bendix HDs. I think most of my fade problems were because of the fluid, felt like there was a bit of air in there. They held together, but they have worn down a fair amount now, about 1mm till the indicator thing and they were pretty much brand new when I went out. But for $55, you cant really complain Now the rest of you, get out there soon! Oh, and bring a jerry can of spare petrol I used about 2/3s of a tank in ~25laps (3x15min sessions), with only around 180rwkw, so you guys with big power should guzzle a fair bit...

Went back out to Mallala and pulled 1.24.1, 1.6s faster than my previous time, so I was stoked. Only thing that changed was brake pads, running TRW Lucas (not great, but for $50, cant complain). Still got fair bit of brake fade, mostly fluid as I ran out of time the night before and didn't flush it. Feel there's still more left in it as it's still a bit too oversteery, and a bit from brakes. Oh and new semis would be nice, these ones are rock hard

I use the Blitz DSBC Spec-R and have had no problems with it. Works great and super easy to set up, only two things to set. Have another dyno sheet of it holding 20psi the same, but havn't got it scanned. It doesn't have anywhere near the features of the ACVR or the SBC-iDIII though, sometimes I wish it did have those other things, but it's pretty rare that I do. All I ask of the controller is that it keeps the wastegate closed for as long as possible and holds boost steadily. This one does that, and it cost me $300 2nd hand

Gates at 8, driving starts at 10, be there before then to make sure you have enough time to sign on and get ready if you need to do anything else. Would anyone going like to meet on the way? Say at the Caltex on Pt Wakefield?

Which Pineapples
salad replied to Proximity Motorsport's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
You can buy replacement bushes, like the Noltec ones. The installation process is FAR harder and more time consuming than pineapples of the C-style solid cradle bushes. I dont know of any alloy bushes that replace the stock bushes, only the C-style which is used in conjunction with the stock one to crush it down and become pretty much solid. -
The whole mentality of myself buying them was "$55!?!?!?! How can I lose!?" Only time will tell now, I'm tossing up whether or not to chuck new rear pads in tomorrow or not... There's a fair bit of meat left in the Bendix but they wore down really quick last time. Maybe I'll just toss a coin

Adjusting Ride Height With Bilsteins?
salad replied to BAMR33's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Spring compressors. If you dont know what you're doing, it's probably a good idea to get a workshop to do it for you, it could end badly if something goes wrong... -
The pads I've got in right now are TRW Lucas. Available from ABS, the fronts cost me $55, going to get some rears soon as the Bendix HD in there now probably wont last... I've been told they are used by a few Saloon Cup cars so they stand up to the heat alright. I'll be able to tell you exactly how they do after Saturday though Just going by feel on the street though, they are miles ahead of the Bendix HD, so I'm quite interested to see how they fare with proper hard driving. My friend's Bendix Ulitmates seemed OK, he didn't have the problem of them falling to pieces like my HDs, but his car is a full stripped out track car, so a good 100kg lighter or so. Not too sure what the go is, other people have used them on the track and they've just crumbled after a few laps.

Swapping Stock Suspension To Coilovers
salad replied to dan.1337's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
If you're just taking the stock suspension out and putting coilovers in, you shouldn't have to pull struts apart and then wont have to worry about wayward springs -
PM sent, guess that's the upside of the situation... You shoulda seen the rotors! Managed to save 'em though, so slotted rotors had to wait, I was alright with that though, I'm a cheap bastard

You just have to have a bit more common sense than me and back off when you feel tyres start to go greasy or feel brake fade coming on. I wasn't that smart and came home with brake pads looking like this

Luke: Yeah, you'll have a ball out there, great feeling when you qualify well too. Word of warning, dont expect much track time for that $160 though... Joel: Yes I run an oil cooler, it's a el cheapo one, but it seems to do the job very well. If you'd like some more details, I'll PM you where and how much it cost me for all the stuff. Basically I got an oil cooler and an oil filter relocator kit for under $200, and then as my car is still daily driven, I added a thermostat for another $100. The grip practices at Mallala are quite often, it's really good Lots of track time too, compared to what you get at a drift night now. Used to be better value for money drifting, but now the tables have turned (due to drift getting so big that there are a lot more people doing it, but the same amount of track time for everyone). Well drift is probably still cheaper as the car doesn't have to be in as good a working order (i.e. brakes, tyres, cooling, etc) and you're only going through scrap tyres instead of expensive brake pads and expensive tyres

OK, but god help you if you're not at the next one! Chances are it'll be me that doesn't make it to the next one though

^^^Liver's the one you need for alcohol I think you can survive with only half of it though, or something like that

Swapping Stock Suspension To Coilovers
salad replied to dan.1337's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Rear is 2x 12mm nuts for the strut top and 1x 17mm nut on the upright, front is 2x 14mm nuts on the strut top and 1x 19mm nut on the upright (per strut of course). The nuts on the uprights are quite tight, so a breaker bar is handy, strut top nuts can just be done with a ratchet or normal spanner. So nothing special. If the stud on the hub doesn't want to line up with eye of the new coilover, jack the LCA up till it does line up. Just make sure you use jackstands and everything is safe -
Yeah, I'm going in G1, it's partially to give the car a bit of a run as I'm a little skeptical about my car with all the other crap that's gone with it lately. Mostly just because I'm on holidays though and I've got nothing better to do.

Clutch Recommendations
salad replied to mr_rbman's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Yeah, I've driven a couple of cushioned buttons now, one in a silvia and one in a 32, and loved both of them. So much more grab but nice to drive. Not too fussed on how long it lasts, I've made my HD organic last 2 years and 27,000kms so far and its still going OK, just really doesn't have the bite that I want. Running around 170rwkw and lots of track drifting (clutching a lot, especially with a no-midrange RB20 ) As long as it lasts similarly to this one, I'll be stoked. C'mon people! Get in on that groupbuy! I want that extra $50 or so off! -
I'm also going to say that how the cop treats you has a lot to do with how you treat him/her. I got pulled over a couple of days ago in my 32 for taking off a bit fast from the lights, not real fast, didn't break traction or anything and then stopped at 60 (probably went a little over, maybe 5km/h or so). Anyway, guy pulled me over, asked for my licence and to pop my bonnet, and having read this thread before, I thought I was screwed. Guy checked my tyres and a good long long under the bonnet (thankfully didn't spot a couple of things that shouldn't be there, even though they were very obvious...) and then asked me "where do you do your fast driving?", I replied "Mallala", a slight pause and then he said "OK, just keep it there" and left. I was very polite and co-operative with him and I'd like to think he returned the favour. But then again, if you get a cop that's just had a bad day or something, there's not much else you can do...

Lock Bar For R33 Skyline
salad replied to HavnFun070's topic in For Sale (Private Car Parts and Accessories)
I've hit a wall at 140 with a "cheap" and no problems. Granted that was an airbag, but it still did a fair bit of damage! About a year of track driving with mine, drifting, circuit, semis, road tyres. Yours does look very good quality though. I assume spherical bearings in the inner joints? -
Has anyone put their name down yet? I'm keen as and have money waiting. Edit: Already have clutch now...
