What broke on Lindo's car?
-
I havn't checked oil pressure before, but the right amount of oil was coming out of the oil feed line, so I'd say oil pressure is about right. I am planning on getting some gauges soon though, how soon, I'm not sure... As for oil filter, what should I be looking for when I open it up?
-
^^^Yeah, but then there's the issue of tyres and brakes. They're off the hook this time cos of the short notice
-
Hmm, well, that's no good... Yours didn't crap out though did it? When I pulled the turbo off, I pulled the covers off to have a look and there was a dirty great big puddle of oil in the comp cover, cooler pipes were also full of oil, I'd hate to see what's inside my cooler... When it was on the dyno it also blew smoke and tuner had trouble getting it to not ping, with 11:1 AFRs, if I'm not mistaken excessive oil in the intake can lead to an engine pinging easily. But can just a replaced rear seal somehow cause the bearings to fail? (if not done properly, obviously)

Damn you's! But yes, brakes is something that really needs to be addressed at the track. I had a set of Bendix heavy duty, near new, and they lasted around 20 laps, then they were down to metal. Having the pedal sink to the floor and you not slow down at 190km/hr is pretty interesting...

You'll be fine with circuit work, just dont change too hard and you'll be fine C'mon, it'll be great fun havin a punt around the track
-
Are you saying you wont go in the dry? Any particular reason?
-
Ah, bugger, fair enough. I'll hold you to being at the next one though

You would have been lucky if anyone answered within 18mins... But, a search goes a long way http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/in...amp;pid=3139189

These are in my car already

Hi, very short notice I know, but who would be keen to do a grip practice (NO DRIFTING) at Mallala this Saturday? BOM says the weather is going to be "mainly fine" at the moment, but it is a bit early to be telling the weather. Either way, if it's dry, I'm really keen to get out there as I havn't had any track time in a while now. If anyone's interested, the cost is $90 (+$20 for 1day temp CAMS licence if you do not hold a CAMS licence), there are 6x 15min sessions throughout the day. Everyone is split into 4 groups, carts, open cars, CAMS licence holders and 1day licence holders. Only need a car, a helmet and non-flamable (eg cotton) wrist to neck to ankle clothing. If anyone's interested, let me know, wouldn't mind having some company out there, all my friends are wussing out of this one Cheers Showza

Yeah, I know it's going to be damn hard to do, and I doubt anything will come from it, but ohwell... I'll just go with the bad mouthing
-
Yeah, easier said than done when you're down $800 with nothing to show for it.

On the dyno I did note a bit of smoke coming out and on the drive down there, my mates told me that I was blowing a fair bit of smoke when I gave it a bit. If this is the case though, how would I go about proving it??? Obviously he's denying that he's done anything wrong.

Yeah, that's what i'm trying to find out at the moment, but it seems like it's a bit of an odd one. But I'm in no rush to slap a new expensive turbo on yet, gotta get to the bottom of this first... I cant really see how it is Bill's fault, but I cant see how anything else has gone wrong either? Only thing I can think of is the stalling, but my car's done that heaps of times before and I've never had a problem with it before...
-
Only modified things after the turbo had blown, but now I find out that it was fine the way it was originally, so now I need to get new banjo bolts and screw around with it more... He's the guy that did the rear seal and then have the turbo conveniently blow straight after and the guy to give me the incorrect oil flow rates for the turbo (I trust the makers of the turbo more than a guy that works on them)
-
OK, I've gotten onto GCG another way and found out that the GCG highflows need around 900cc/min to survive, which is exactly what was measured out of the oil feed line. So now I have to figure out why it's been starved of oil... MTQ suggested that somehow something may have been stuck in the line, but then somehow, relieved itself, this seems a bit odd though. The only other thing I can think of is the car stalled a couple of times on track, but I started it again straight after. Someone mentioned coking before as the bearings/shafts/races were all black instead of blue. I was always under the impression though that only plain bearing turbo suffered such huge problems from the car stallin unexpectedly or something. Any help would be great Cheers

Good guess from a week in advance Good race though, good to see Raikkonen and Ferrari back in form.

Clutch Recommendations

I'm not too sure for you, I'm getting the cushioned button as I still want some drivability for my daily, but need a lot more bite than an organic. Have driven an Extreme cushioned button and it was nice. For you, I doubt that would be enough... For 300rwkw, they recommend the sports ceramic or the racing ceramic, prices are getting a bit higher ($782 and $667 respectively). All prices and rated power are here http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/in...70024&st=28 -
Adjusting Ride Height With Bilsteins?
salad replied to BAMR33's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
^^^ Which is 1:1 for both front and rear of skylines, so 5mm movement of the shock/spring = 5mm movement of wheel and vice versa. You will have to do all of them to get a true indication of height, or at least one side so the chassis isn't trying to twist/flex. -

Ash and Joel, I think you two should have a look into this http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/in...howtopic=170024 I'm up for a new clutch at the moment aswell, my two year old organic shitter isn't doing too well The ones that Slide sells are not genuine and what not. Simon I know is having a lot of trouble with his, I'd rather pay the extra hundred or so for a genuine one... -
Beer Baron: Sorry is 0.9L/min and this is measured at idle. Oil feed line disconnected from the turbo and flowing into a measuring cup. Done at idle. I also have a feeling that something is not right, but I cant prove anything... Another big company have said that it has been starved of oil too though, so I dont know how it's all happened!? MTQ have said that something may have gotten blocked in the line somewhere and then come out later without noticing when I pulled the turbo out again. I dunno though, everything seems a little weird... Either way, I'm out $800 and my car is slow again Cubes: Never run 1L overfill before, think it would give a lot more blow by though. I'm gonna block off the rear oil feed in the 20 when I pull mine down and freshen it up. Think I might do the restrictor in the front one too. Figure it cant hurt. I'll take some pics of the turbo soon, everything is pretty rooted... Simon: Know of any other turbo places in Adelaide that I could get another opinion from? Still cant believe GCG didn't know how much oil their own turbos need to survive... TurboX: GCG highflow is ball bearing It's supposed to be used with the standard lines, without mods.
-
Yeah, 2 years of track work with RB25 turbos and not a single oil problem MTQ didn't know how much oil they should be getting, but showed them the turbo and they said oil starvation too. Actually started wearing through the shaft, taken about 1mm out of the radius... Then I thought, hey GCG make the highflow, they should know how much oil they require to run, but no one there knew the required flow rate either, just said designed to run off standard oil pressure. So now I know that it's oil starvation that has caused the turbo to die, but I have no idea what has caused the oil starvation. Anyone else have any thoughts? Would like to get all of this sorted before I put another good turbo on and potentially have a repeat...
