reconmend an internal ex mani for 25/20
Mesmer replied to RBVS's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Its good to hear people are getting good results from these. I haven't even got my one on the head yet so i have no practical knowage of how they work in the real world yet. Its just I was a little bit dissapointed in the clean-up & weld quality inside the runners on my one but if it works. :cooldance: I will have my engine back together in a week or two so i'll let you guys know how it goes. John PS thats a nice markup they are putting on those at autobarn. :uhh: -

This is good news for me... i was starting to think i'd wasted my money. Now this grinding? where? is there much of it to be done. i have just got my head back and have not test fit it yet. Also discopotato yes i know there are some horrible aussie custom ones floating around and like you said aussie ones tend to favour the long runner equal length design. I think i saw a few threads on the short runner jap manifolds vs aussie ones on here and performance forums ages ago. John -
What hubs for s13/r32 brake conversion?
Mesmer replied to s13n1's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Hey sorry to throw this a little off topic but does anyone know if the later model skyline hubs bolt onto hr31 import struts? I'm just about to complete my front brake upgrade and with r32 stuff and would like to change it to 5 stud if i can. I've also been looking at those s13 hubs on option 1 garage and cant help but wonder if you could find someone/somewhere to make them up cheaper then that. The custom hubs would also be nice if your current wheels didn't clear the caliper. I know the rear will need z31 turbo hubs but i can wait to do that when i find some. Also whats the min offset you can run with the 4pots if anyone knows? Thanks John -

I have got one like r31 power's to slap on my rb25 but i have to say it doesn't really look like any sort of improvment maybe even more restrictive then the stock log. It wouldn't really suprise me if people with these things are loosing power....but they look pritty from above. :headspin: Live and learn i guess but i would be going for something custom next time round or a jap one and not a cheap pre-fab thing. I got a plain bearing "t3/4 hiflow" done to my rb25 turbo and i like it but given the price of new /second hand bolt on upgrades floating around the place i would be looking for something aftermarket. doing it again i would go for a complete turbo not just the hiflow but new ones are alittle exxy as you say and you always take a risk if you buy second hand turbos. RB25DET Engine bits
Mesmer replied to Mesmer's topic in For Sale (Private Car Parts and Accessories)
Sorry but only turbo i have is my hiflow and i have to keep that -
I have some rb bits laying around that I don’t need anymore. -Rb25det head, intake/exhaust manifolds, cam covers, injectors, throttle body. Just cleaned been cleaned up by head place - $650 -Rb25det block, crank, rods, oil pump & sump. $450 -Rb20det head with valve gear but no cam covers or cams. $300 I need some GTR rods or r32/33 brake calipers if anyone wants to swap. Open to reasonable offers on anything and please contact me if you want me to separate anything. Please E-mail: [email protected] Thanks John

The rb20/26 inlet cam gears bolt on the same a the exhaust ones (4 bolts) but the rb25 has one large hollow banjo style bolt that holds the vct gear on. So without modding the center of the cam aswell as the front bearing surface the stock vct gear wont fit so you need the rb20/26 pully. John

I would think that seminar is about how to tune motec products and using there software/features/etc with only a little on EFI tuning in general. Now for basic tuning. For anyone that doesn't know yet you will need a wide band O2 sensor for this so dont try doing it with a stock o2 sensor with jaycar or autometer a/f gauge they are useless at anything other than idle Fuel: fuel needs to be trimmed to effectively hold the correct a/f you wish to run at any given RPM/load point 12:1 ish on boost i think is about the normal safe tuning point with 14:1 being stock for idle/low load operation. The higher the a/f ratio the more on the edge it is so to speak. Timing: Timing should be done on a dyno. Timing is increased until maximum torque say from idle to max torque. Then should be decreased little by little as boost and rpm increases. Some things i have read say about 1-2 degrees for every 1 psi but it all depends on the engine. Also dont forget the economy side of things. Onroad datalogging can come in handy for this tuning a ecu for max power is easy its getting the thing to drive like a stock car thats hard. Hi-way and low load areas should receive at least the same attention that high load/boost does as it will make the car alot nicer to drive 99% of the time. Pre-school tuning class over B-mans disclaimer applies John

just curious here but what do ppl here do work wise??

I own a small IT sales/support business. I'm bored and broke someone save me John -
I own a old autronic SMC and i'm wrapped with it but thats just me as i like to play with things. It handles the Idle valve and ignition very well but i dont have stock coils anymore i have a 3xtwin coil packs & modules from bosch or something. Also i have to raise another point about autronic ecu's are you need to replace the trigger disk in the CAS. Now for you i would say get something plugin unless you really want to dish out the extra to get a SM2 with all the nice little extra's that the smc doesn't have. Also the smc is really overpriced last time I checked compared to most powerFC/plugins prices i've seen & the sm2 is lots more. John PS on a side note they are fun to tune if you have all the gear (Autronic WB02) and hooked up correctly.

Well that is something that you need to think about before you can go ahead, is if you can complete this engine within your budget. The head was worked over for a bit of a reco/cleanup by my engine builder and The block is in good condition std bore etc. As the machinist is a friend of mine i could see how much it is to get some of the parts preped for you if you like. Just to give you a quick idea i'm currently rebuilding my rb25 with aries forged pistons ($1250) clevite bearings see above ($70) nissan full gasket kit ($375) main bearings are still up in the air but they are cheap plus lots of other goodies that you dont really need but the little things add up. Depending on how much it costs you to get labour/machining done you may be able to get it done if your a heavy D.i.y'er (like me ) if not the labour involved will blow the budget to hell :Bang: i would think Thanks John

I dont really think it would be all that hard to put a rb25 in a 32 (i have one in my HR31) but you would need to talk to some people that have done it before. As for my motor it would need to be rebuilt with new pistons & bearings before it could ever run not to mention that it is missing a few sensors coil packs etc unless your getting a aftermarket computer i would get a halfcut for all the little bits you will need. This engine would be good for someone thats already got a rb25 on the way out and needs to get something ready to put in. Thanks John

hey I have a rb25det AFM laying around good condition. $130 +postage I'm not 100% sure if its a s1 or 2 i got it with a engine but you could check the part number against yours. See:http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/at...achmentid=18607 If they are the same numbers E-mail me for more pics at [email protected] Thanks John

express post bags are like $8-9 last time i got one so i'll just throw it in one of those or can send reg post if you would like insurance. John

paul sorry but i cant supply the vin because i bought this engine from a workshop in bits as i needed some for my engine. Also there where differances in sensors and idle control on this engine that looked newer then mine. Part numbers are in the pics below if you can read them. I'll write them out if you cant make them out. (sorry about the quality of the pics i'm trying to get my hands on a digital camera that works should have one tomorrow) Wilso I have almost a rb25 long motor in parts but missing -Crank angle sensor -oil filter block (stock oil cooler heat exhanger) & cooler -pistons -turbo -temp sensor Say $1200 for the lot and you can have the big end bearings too or if your just after some parts e-mail me please. But I have no idea how much it would cost to send the engine overseas. Sorry i'm using the box Thanks John

lol you might be onto something there paladin. But on a serious note there are more then enough hi-powered import/v8/exotics around here to put on a few good races and would compliment the indy cars nicely. Inexperianced drivers with no race licenses in performance cars racing eachother would make for good spectator/tv viewing but I’m not sure whoever runs the show would like it maybe some time trials? PS v8's should be there but only if they race after the indycars so they get rained on for a change :ghost:

Offers? will sell as a complete package if someone wants a engine to rebuild on the side

What not to do when your RB25DET gets rebuilt!!!
Mesmer replied to Steg33's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
hmm after just ripping down my 25 not that long ago that screams fuel pump/system to me. I was driving my car around for about 3 years with a autronic SMC getting experiance tuning the thing (read: screwing with the fuel/ignition maps ) finding out what works what didn't etc without a a/f ratio meter (yes yes i know exactly how stupid it was and it did end up costing me a engine) and my stock pistons didn't even look that bad. So while a badly tuned ecu can kill a engine i think that looks alot more like a major lack of fuel not just a little to much timing (what most jap chips have) for it to kill forged pistons like that without any real abuse. John -
hey does anyone have any ideas or pics on what a good baffled or gated sump would look like or bits you have seen that are a good idea to inprove on? I've got my rb25 in bits and just about to put it back together but would like to put some baffling in it as i will be doing a bit of fast driving even though its not a rb26 or gtr i'm guessing the rb25's suffer from this aswell just not as bad? BTW aftermaket ones are out (i'm a cheap bastard ) and know a lot of people that can help with the fabrication. Thanks John
-
got them if you want them would like to sell the whole block but someone else is after the oil pump so no dramas John
-
What are you after? i got a 25 sitting on the floor of my garage. PM or e-mail me [email protected] thanks John
