R34 Gtr Build
dahandfull replied to JEM Dyno's topic in Members Cars, Project Overhauls & Restorations
Bobby, Well a reputable japanese company - HKS could be considered as one.. "i think you dont know much about the R&D involved when making a one off design!" bit unfair you saying that without having any knowledge of my background. "as john wants it to" - does that mean his engineering "tolerance or allowance" is much finer than what other companies designed? im sorry, i don't mean to sound/come across rude, i just want to understand and have you explain to me the lengths you are going to with reguards to the R&D. Does this engineered design manifold make enough of a difference to actually have a marked effect. I mean, if such a thing was put on, i dunno, Mark Jacobson's drag car, would he cut 5tenths off the time? -

Bobby, So looking at it from a VM point of view (even if money is no object, its still relative), in your opinion the amount of money/time spent on the manifold setup is worth the benefit over a reputable aftermarket item?? ie; if manifold X is purchased for $1000 and yields you a 100rpm advantage, does you creation of $10000 yield you <than a 1000rpm advantage? (you manifold is better than 1rpm/$10) make sence? Hopefully some more questions for you soon if you don't mind. Great build and thanks for the info. -

fun123 - from memory the head port its quite expensive process. i couldn't tell you how long the actually porting took because of all the other work i had done during the process. give the guys at gt a call and you can work out with them if it would suit your application to go this road (other porting work might suffice). Well the time has come and im thinking of parting with my GTR. Any interested parties drop me a pm and we can talk. Cheers. -
sold... Thanks

and wat would the minor 3rd gear issues be? -
Well i have some left over camshafts that i need to get rid of. There is a bit of history that goes with these cam's so i will do my best to explain. A few years ago i blew my standard rb26. I spent quite a large sum of money with workshop 'A' rebuilding me a motor with parts i provided and some parts he supplied. After the monumental f*k around with him, i picked up my motor and bits a pieces and had it sit in my garage for a little while. Once i saved enough money, i took my car to Gt Auto Garage to have the motor checked over and the best way to proceed to get my gtr driveable agian. After a lengthy discussion i went with a whole new setup which meant i ditched most of the parts from the previous build with workshop A (motor was never started and i sold off lots of the parts not needed). These camshafts are one of a few bits i need to get rid of, but the difficult thing now is to prove what they are. I have no reciepts and no way to prove that these are ProCam Tomei Cam's, short of someone buying them and not carrying out the headwork needed to accept the swing of the lobe. So my questions are; - I want them gone but how do i prove they are 270deg and 10.8mm lift? They do have a stamp on them already to say which is exhaust and intake. - How much to sell them for? - Ill put $500 but open to offers. Love some feedback please, and to the people that know me, references wouldn't go astray also Pics will be up tonight once i get home. I can have Gt Auto Garage vouche that they were never used other than bolted into the head. Thanks for your time. Mike.

bigmikespec - exactly what i was wanting. something that i interpret as a true japan style gtr... just had a dyno run this week for a "check-tune" and made 468kw AND 590Nm @wheel's (all 4), pump fuel and 20psi and prolly say thats at 7,900rpm p.s. thats also with a full exhaust system (hi-flo cat, muffler & exit muffler. HKS silent hi-power) -

would definately be challenging the too low fine. at a "guesstimate" ?? how can that happen? they actually have a device that they are meant to use at some different points around the car.

Marlin - Im a little scared to go full sequential. Im thinking i might try a gearset first... but im definately keen on replacing the stock brakes and a weld in cage for serious track time -

If your in Brisbane and need a tune, GT Auto Garage @ Newmarket..... They are a pro HKS dealer and Dave the tuner there is top notch with fcon. I have a Fcon Pro and i have no faults whatso ever. Check out my build and see what they have done for me. I don't know of other tuners that travel to HKS factory to learn product information and recieve training, esp with tuning. -

BOOST31 - Thanks bud.... Ive tried to keep it pretty unique while looking truely JDM style lol What i like the best about it is we are still using pump fuel & we havn't even cracked 20psi yet to make all this power & torque. I want to run a few more km's before that happens. 25+ and e85...... oh dear!!
