  1. Got a R34 gt-t atm that has a microtech hard wired to it and after having lots of issues with black smoke and generally running bad i went to vern at dynolink in townsville. Got it running heaps better but still not 100%, he recommended switching to a Link ecu for better boost control and other nifty stuff. Just wondering if anyone has had much experience with this brand of ecu and whether it worked well for them. Cheers
  2. have a greddy profec b spec in my R34 GT-T and because i was unhappy with my first tuner i gave to another guy to tune. However he says something is strange with the greddy boost controller. I haven't witnessed it personally but he says that he can't switch between modes on the controller and everytime he tries to use the adjuster knob the LCD screen just displays 'OFF'. Anyone have anything like this happen before and had it fixed?? Or is my controller farked and time for a new one?
  3. speaking of cats. Has anyone tried the apexi hi flow cat advertised on nengun.com?? I've gone through 3 metal cats (or cheap chinese rip offs with badge on it) and am looking for different brands.
  4. Got a 34 gt-t with about 90,000 kms. Got a microtech in and with the way it's tuned at the moment i'm getting good power from when the turbo spools up (4000rpm) to redline (7000rpm). However the gain in power between 6000 and 7000 is unreal. A friend (300zx owner) tells me it is common to increase the factory redline and after reading a couple of threads it appears this is the case. Which interests me as i'd like to extend this power range. So basically I'm asking if i can increase the redline, and if so, what's a safe limit. 5. While we're on the topic of 300 rwkw neo engines, i also have a 25det Neo engine with 310 rwkw on 18 psi boost. However the power isn't coming on as strong as i'd like it. My tuner says he can get it to come on harder but he's worried about the engine as he hasn't had much experience with the neo engine. Don't have a dyno graph to show you but basically the turbo kicks in at around 4000 rpm and rather than a sharp jump and easing to 300kw, it's basically a straight line building up to it. It felt quicker when i had it tuned for 250 kw due to the majority of the power coming in between 4000-5000rpm. Question is, is there really that much concern bringing it on harder, apart from the expected wheelspin? 6. Okay I've looked everywhere and i have no idea where the hell i put the manual. Can someone please send me a msg on how to do this.
  7. My car is at my tuner getting a plenum installed and after a long wait he's got it back together. The battery was out for about 3-4 days and now he can't get the immobiliser on my mongoose M60 to deactivate. The battery appears to be fine, and it seems to be held out at the ignition stage of start-up. So we entered the over ride and were able to get it to start. However now it seems like the remote isn't working and we have to enter the over ride every time we want it to start. Anyone got any ideas on what's going on??
  8. that's why i was asking, if someone has done it before and had troubles it would've been nice to know. The plan for now anyways is to get the plenum and see how it looks against the Ls1, if there is too much mucking around i'll just buy the q45, as you said, no point buying a 1000 dollar plenum and putting a bunch of holes through it. Will update this thread when it gets here.
  9. http://www.carmate.com/product_details.php...&p_id=12273 this gear is on sale at carmate for $250 atm, and being completely clueless to my car (let alone the electronics side of it), i was wondering if i need any other gear for my r34 gtt to put these in or if we got any tutorial threads for it, as i really hate these crappy compliance lights.
  10. short term just 300 rwkw, long term, prob around the 400 rwkw.
  11. Am going to throw a greddy plenum (33 gtst version) onto my 34 gtt, and have been looking around for the 90mm q45 throttle body to throw on it. However my tuner has got a 90mm Ls1 throttle body lying around and he says we should be able to use that. Has anyone used this throttle body before?? Other question, is there really that much benefit to be had in having the 90mm throttle body compared to just using the 70mm r33 tb with adaptor. Would like to know in case the whole 90mm Ls1 thing doesn't work out. Cheers
  12. i hate the new games that put so much effort into looks and useless quirks and get to the release date and say "oh yeah, gameplay, forgot about that" sequels to awesome pc games that cut right down on content and quality just so it can run on xbox's and playstations. games that take too long to be released (starcraft 2 )
  13. I know many people have asked about throwing the getrag from the 34 gtr into a gtt or previous skylines, which is apparently a no go due to the awd thingy. But i was curious as to whether or not anyone has pulled one out of a supra and thrown it into the 34 gtt. Just curious as i may be looking for stronger boxes in the future.
  14. thx heaps uras, well i guess the greddy is the way to go and from what i read a q45 throttle body goes well if i can find one.
  15. hey can anyone point me in the direction of that install pic uras is talking about. If found lots of threads talking about it but no real installation help. and if anyone knows what a good throttle body for it would be that'd be good as well.
  16. At the moment the cat is sitting about midway down the car, thought that'd be enough of a distance. As for pics i'll have to see my tuner to see if he kept any of em. and i'll have to get back to you on the timing.
  17. righto, well i'm talking to one of the guys at metal cat next week, hopefully we can brainstorm a little and i'll update this thread.
  18. that's the point though. I have received the last two free of charge thx to my tuner, but replacing the cat every three months isn't something i want to be doing. As for being a crappy china cat, if you know of a better brand i'd be happy to hear about it, but as far as i know metal cats are supposed to be the beez neez in australia. As for temperature collapse, i find it hard to believe since my tuner has them in most of the cars he tunes (some with 400 rwkw+) and I'm the only one with these issues. I'm not rejecting the theory completely and i appreciate the replies but it just seems very weird that the higher power cars don't suffer the same fate. I'll get the silencer taken out soon and free up the exhaust a bit more and see if that helps i guess. Any more ideas are still welcome as the issue is frustrating me pretty bad atm.
  19. didn't look like it melted or anything. Just seemed like the walls of the honeycomb structure collapsed on themselves. The inlet to it wasn't too bad but the outlet side all collapsed to the center. My tuner seems to think the black smoke is the cat disintegrating as you say. But being on the third one now and it looks like it's doing it again seems strange.
  20. cheers
  21. Can anyone point me in the direction of a dealer that supplies greddy intake plenums for r34 gt-t?
  22. About 6 months or so ago i put a high flow 'metal cat (brand name) ' on my r34. After a while i lost performance and after talking with my tuner we found that catalytic converter had collapsed. Seemed a bit strange since metal cat are supposed to be a pretty good brand. So we threw another one in and a couple of months later, same deal. We pulled it out and my tuner contacted the dealer and got a new one from a different batch (dealer seemed to think they might have had a problem batch). This one was a lot better however it is now starting to show the same symptoms as before. -blows black smoke as the turbo comes on and throughout most of the rev range there after. Leaves black dots on the rear of my car. Black smoke is usually a sign that the tune is far too rich but my tuner assures me that is not the case, though the a/f ratio does dip just below 12 for a few hundred revs. One of his ideas is that the exhaust stream is too hot for the cat, which doesn't make too much sense either since i'm only running 14 psi and 250 rwkw (after fresh tune). Another mechanic told me that my silencer is restricting the exhaust too much and could also be doing something there (3.5 inch turbo back exhaust, silencer takes it to about 2-2.5 inch at muffler). I want to take it to 300 rwkw soon but there's no point until i get this issue dealt with. If anyone has gone through this before or has any idea what's going on your help would be greatly appreciated. Car: R34 gt-t 3.5" turbo back exhaust metalcat hi-flow cat microtech ecu 600hp turbo (was doing this before turbo install as well however) 650cc sard injectors (as with turbo, was a problem before injector install) pod filter 600*300*75 hybrid intercooler running 250rwkw at 14 psi boost
  23. No plug in. Had to hard wire the ecu. If i knew what i know now i probably would've travelled out of town for tune jobs. But shit happens, would be a giant pain in the arse to pull it out now. But the guys does pretty decent work so it's not all bad.
  24. i'm using a microtech in my 34 gtt at the moment. It's pretty much as they say, a bit rough in the low revs and can be a bit heavy on the fuel. At the moment i have 250 rwkw and for every 45 litres i throw in i get about 300 km (flog it here and there but mostly highway driving). Not the best fuel economy i've seen. Would probably go the power fc if you can. The only reason i went microtech is because that's what my tuner prefers to use.
  25. Basically I've had a couple of friends tell me that the r34 gtt has a 5 speed version of the gtr's getrag gearbox, but i was under the impression that it was pretty much the same as the r33 25det gearbox (and some of the stuff i've read here points that wasy as well). So... 1. Which actually is it? 2. Will the redline shockproof be okay for it. 3. Will it handle the 300 rwkw i plan to put through it (with a C's short shifter installed as well). Also, if anyone can recommend a diff oil for the 34 gtt as well that would be good.
