Parking your Skyling at shopping centers
_turtle_ replied to Guilt-Toy's topic in General Automotive Discussion
hey akeenan, where abouts in melb do u work? the worst are people who don't respect their car and who definitely don't respect other peoples cars, i see some ppl in their shiat box (and sometimes expensive cars) just rip it into the parking and then open their door wide without worry about knocking the car parked next to them. i hate getting dents on the door from other ppl.. -
the hks super dragger isn't as loud as the apexi n1. the diameter of the hks muffler is a lot bigger, its quite large and aborbs the nosie more. unlike the n1's.
-
neoGT-25, get extractors like meggala said, don't get the apexi n1 if u don't want loud. get a hi-flow cat then 2 1/4" exhaust with a straight through muffler, if i were u i'd go for the oval shape ones and not the canon style ones. don't go for 2.5", its too big, na needs some back pressure. else down low it won't go. and thats about all i'd do for an na boys, i'm selling my car soon, will post some pics up wen i get them scanned. the exhaust was a waste of money, but i just had to do something to the car coz it was so standard i don't think the power fc does anyting for an na.

couple of months back i took out the spare tyre and drove around without it. then i had to do some grocery shopping, buy some drinks and stuff like that. couldn't put it on top! coz the covering that is there is so weak that it just caves in! so yer, i reckon this thing is a good idea. i'd be interested in it. i don't think it bounces around that much with the carpet covering it.

Oil Change Intervals (opinions)
_turtle_ replied to Boostzor's topic in General Automotive Discussion
i read somewhere that if u take it on the track, u should change it afterwards. same with the gearbox oil as well, if ur going to thrash it hard then its best to change it more regularly. else every 5000kms is the go. -
alright, i'm glad we all agree now

including a gtr skyline?

Jimx, my steering wheel doesn't move or anything wen i go over bumps. but i do reckon my shocks are buggered. how do i tell if i have aftermarket supsension? anyone got any pics of the standard ones? my car is defintely lower than factory height, theres not that much room on top of the wheels and i've just got factory wheels. also, roughly how much are cheapy shocks? coz i'm planning on selling the car in the next few months, as soon as i get a full time job happening after final exams. so i don't want to spend too much on it, i will also be taking it for a full service too, so i'm kinda short on the cash flows. i think ylrgtr has some springs (rs brand?) for $200 for sale. but then my springs might be fine and its just the shocks. also, i would then have to take them somewhere to be fitted (more $$$), as u have realised i don't know shiat about suspension! thanks
-
i would say that is correct.
-
wen u say remove the back one, do u mean the one closest to the airbox? or the other way around?
-
Damn, money u have if u can afford to get a brand new exhaust from Japan! They're very pricey. If time is a concern, get the exhaust fitted on a saturday, most places are open until lunch time, just get in there early. With the hi-flow cat, I was quoted for around $250 for one think, somewhere from 200-250. All i remember was the guy telling me what a good price it was hehe. This was at Daalder exhaust. It was for a 2.5" one, 3" will probably cost a bit more. Good idea to get the front pipe and dump pipe from japan as well. Anyways good luck with it.
-
damn, would've saved u some time & money. what exhaust have u ordered, did u get a 2nd hand one? catback i assume? u could almost put the new exhaust on urself if u could jack ur car up high enough. ur new exhaust should bolt straight on. just 2 bolts at the front to the cat and then the rest of it goes into the rubber holders. which area are u in? mr muffler in mitchan charged me $40 to put mine on. took like 15mins. any exhaust place can do it. don't let them charge u more than that. only problem is i dunno if the exhaust can fit in ur car to take it there!
-
i totally agree with that. my exhaust is finally fixed up, sounds very nice now. just a deep purr. took it to daalder exhaust in boxhill. 1st resonator they put on didnt do much, was still loud, went back and they changed it for free. better than ringwood place where he wouldn't guarantee me anything & said it may help it may not. rs73, i didn't realise that u already had a hks super drager muffler, if that were the case u should've just went & got some custom made exhaust to fit it, would've cost around $150. if u haven't ordered the catback system from japan u should keep the hks & get the piping done.

there was a big thread on whether or not to remove the mesh. whether its safe to and wot performance gains etc. do a search on it. or maybe that was on sdu forums? can't remember. i would if i could get the damn afm out hehe.
-
ahh, thanks blind elk. i thought they suppose to replace bushes and rods for compliancing. the dodgy guys. not that i know what they are, i just remember that for my 180sx i had them replaced. was fairly cheap. i mite go get the shocks replaced. if i drive over those drains or small ditches, tram rds etc i can feel every bump. speed bumps r no good either. will they know which part no. to put in or is there some local model car equivalent i can tell them about which will fit straight in? don't want 2 take the car there and then they'll go "oh, this ones an import fish, we'll have to order it in" and then charge me double. atm, my car is quite low, from what i can see it doesn't look like aftermarket springs are in there, just looks like the normal colour.
-
i think that was my problem, i couldn't get the clip off!!! hehe.
-
hey guys, just need some info on shocks and suspension. sorry, but i dont know too much about them. say, if my ride was bumpy and i could feel all the bumps and stuff on the road whilst driving, would changing the shocks help this. can someone give me a rough price of how much a new set of standard shocks would cost including fitting. i dont' want to get ripped off at the mechanics. would changing the suspension also help? car seems to bounce around a bit. also, how much would it cost for some standard suspension cost including fitting. thanks btw, i hear this clunking noise wen i take corners hard coming from the rear left. i think that it mite be something loose because it sounds like it slides across a bit and then slides back wen i straighten up, but i also think that it may b the suspension because i can't find anything loose. could it be suspension?
-
dude, what is AUTO1. and where is it
-
im gonna sound stoopid, but here goes. a while back when i was putting my pod filter on i tried to remove it but i coudln't. i couldn't get the bloody plug off!!!! it was on soo tight no matter how i pressed it in or whatever it wouldn't come off. i thought that i was just one of those clip in plugs. any tips guys? not that i need to remove it, just would like to know how to unplug the damn fing.
-
damn, ur lucky u doing all the stuff at ur house, else labour would cost heaps. chopobo, the power at the flywheel for r33 gts is around 142 or 147kw. weighs around 1300kgs. the only things i would do to an na would be the things that doxximus listed. filter, exhaust etc. other work such as doing the cams etc wouldn't be worth it, u would have to spend some money for little gains.
-
yer i fink its a good idea. on the nissansilvia.com site they have the specs for the silvias, eg which break pads, spark plugs, etc to use and their part no. makes it easier for servicing and parts. but i've pretty much got all the number of parts i need from this forum.
-
yeah, i kinda got use to the drone as well, which makes my current exhaust sound so peaceful, but to others may think that its still sound loud it use to pop as well, doesnt do it as much anymore since i changed it. gotta admit i did like that sound. i was scared that the cops would pull me over and wack me with a fine! doxximus u haven't had any trouble with the cops from the noise? good luck with the turbo conversion, where will u b getting it done? i've been thinking about doing that as well, but i've decided to sell and buy a turbo.
-
hey boxhead, no more drone noise for me!!!! i am so relieved, it was pissing me off badly, i didn't even want to drive the car. i took it back to this exhaust place, and they changed the resonator for me, coz the boss that did it the first time was just a temp from another store and he does mostly tuning and stuff for cars so he didnt know what he was doing. now i've got on a oval shaped one, and it sounds pretty good, only drones a bit but its very bearable i'm very happy with the current system now. btw, daalder exhaust in boxhill did it for me. very pleased with their work & service. all the other places wanted me to remove my current exhaust and they'll make another one for me.
