warpspeed, thats another reason why i want to quiet her down. i can't afford to cop a fine and then have to pay more money to change it. hey doxximus, how big is ur exhaust? does it drone at all?
-
hehe, believe me GTR-80Y, quiet is all good! Steve, that sounds like a cheap option but i want to reduce the noise outside as well. friends tell me they can hear me leaving and know exactly where i am till the next block.
-
definetly is in my opinion. the exhaust on the NA car is louder and drones. iv'e never heard the droning noise in the turbo, it mite be loud but doesn't drone. its the drone noise which is killing me atm. weird, from say 2000-3000rpm it will drone at constant speeds, if i hold it at 4000+rpm there is no drone and sounds quite nice. thanks MegaGTS4, i will be going to exhaust place on friday and asking for a chambered resonator, now hopefully i'll sound like i know what i'm talking about and don't get ripped off! thanks for the help everyone.

s13 silvia fronts are ugly as i reckon. stick with the classic pop up lites and a nice front kit. i definetly agree with NIZ30, the strawberry kit is nice. i've still yet to see one in melbourne. the 94 onwards 180sx have the black rocker cover engines, same as 200sx. i use to have a 1.8 180sx, still like em, but i lurve the skylines!
-
also forgot to ask, what is a baffled resonator?
-
damn, i'll mention that wen i goto the exhaust place on friday. im pretty sure they can shorten it a bit, because i notice that the muffler is sticking out a lil too much for my liking. thanks for that.
-
is ur noise the lifter noise?? eg. a tap tap tap kinda one, or a tick tick kinda one? the noise u have mite not be related to anything these things hehe. the lifter noise is quite loud, i had it on my old celica.
-
where abouts r u? if ur in melb, u can take a look at my R33 GTS (non-turbo, manual). $15,400. email me for more details [email protected]
-
im not too sure, but a few skylines have this and i've heard that its the fuel injectors???
-
hey blind_elk, wouldn't the piping have to remain a certain length, just enough to reach the rear muffler? how can it be shortened? with the 2nd resonator in, its actually quite good wen the car is cold, not very noisy at all. wen i accelerate it also sounds ok, its only when i remain at a constant speed eg 100 on the freeway that it starts to drone. thanks for the replys.
-
alrighty, i've decided to go with the conventional chambered type muffler. but, will that mean more work because the inlet is on one side and the outlet is on the other so they have to change the piping from the outlet back? sorry to sound tite, it just that i've got exams and shiat coming up so i haven't been working for a few months already hey warpspeed, ur in melb as well right? any places u recommend me to goto that won't rip me off? i mite ring around a few places on monday seeing as nothing is open on a sunday.

ok, this is what i plan to do, any feedback would be appreciated. i plan to replace the 2nd resonator (hotdog shape) with a 2.5" oval shape muffler (the exhaust is 2.5"). should i get a 2.5" straight thru oval shape or just a normal 2.5"? would it be just as loud with the straight thru? bear in mind i don't really care about flow anymore, i just want to take the drone noise out with minimal costs! would a straight thru muffler just be the same as a resonator? whats the difference? bc, from what i fink, at the moment i've got no mufflers! just a small resonator followed by a 2nd hotdog shape resonator, followed by a apexi styled straight thru muffler (which isnt really a muffler bc its straight thru?) shiat, sorry for the long posts. also, would a 2 & 1/4" muffler after the resonator make less noise?
-
thanks guys. i already wasted $88 putting in the really small resonator which is like the size of the pipe. i regret doing that now, i should've removed the hotdog like resonator which was already on it and put in a big oval shape one instead which is similar in shape to the standard exhaust. the exhaust place wasn't very helpful. but damn, im outta cash so i have to wait till i've paid my bills then do that. so do u guys think that if i put in an oval shape muffler in it should take out the drone? its very annoying driving on freeway and going up hills and stuff. i just wanted a grrrrr noise. not a wooooowoooowooooo noise. although the grrrr noise does sound quite nice until the other one comes in. anyone turbo guys out there with a smaller muffler and stuff wanna swap with me?
-
hey guys i just bought a 2nd hand catback exhaust with a canon style muffler and it extremely loud! it already has a resonator in it, a hotdog style one and it is still loud. so loud that it drones wen i'm driving on the freeway. the exhaust is 2.5" and my car is NA. i just went to performance exhaust and put on a 2nd resonator, however this resonator looks just like the normal pipe only a tiny bit bigger and it doesn't seem to have helped much. besides changing the muffler, what can i do?

Gearbox/Clutch Places

damn, that is a lot of cash!!! can i ask whats been going wrong with it? my baby's been very good so far. no probs at all -
just wondering, how do u clean the filters such as apexi and blitz? they all say that they are re-usable, but the don't tell u how to clean them. do u just wash them with water? i had a k&n pod and that was easy because i just used the cleaning kit i bought for it.
-
yups, same thing happened to me wen i had my celica. clutch was slipping and i didn't realise, still kept trying to rev it wondering why it didnt move hehe. would b reving it past 3000 rpm and the car would accelerate so slow but then i just took it real easy on the clutch and kept going with it for a few weeks until i had cash to change it. perhaps u should do the gearbox and clutch at same time to save some labour costs.
-
ok, thanks for the reply. i'll go check out how much the hose is. hehe, i already gave up trying to change it, the hose just sucked onto the tip and wouldn't let go. stuborn thing.
-
hey guys, i'm in the middle of changing the fuel filter and have losened the hose clamps on it, but i cant pull the hose off!!! the damn fing is like just stuck, feels like its sucked on and won't come out. is there a method to pull of the hose? or do u just use excessive force and yank it off? i don't want to damage the hose or anything, coz it looks like its kinda stretching a bit. thanks

damn, there goes that idea then. i feel the need to put some money into the car actually, i want to sell it and get a turbo. i've seen a few decent GTS-T's in my email from j-spec and geoff. only problem is, 1. i need to sell my car first to get the money to bring one down 2. if i sell my car first then i'll have nothing to drive until i can find another one, and knowing my luck after i sell the car i won't b able to find a decent one straight away. there were 2 93 GTS-T grade 4.0 going for less than $15,000 plus rego and stamp duty, so all up it would be around 16-17k i guess.

thats what i did as well, got the oil changed, then a few months later changed it again and put in the nulon g70. the 2nd time i did it the oil actually was still quite dirty, maybe from stuff in the gears. but now its fine.
-
yer i know not many ppl have sitc in their car, is there a reason for this? coz its not worth it? i looked on the apexi site and it doesnt even have it there!!!! strange. yup i got an na turtle but i heard that a safc together with sitc will still make a difference in the na. dunno if its true. so was just wondering, mite be better than putting an exhaust on as i can always remove it when i sell the car.
-
hey guys, i just wanted to find out more about the apexi S-ITC. been looking around on the net, but i can't anything more than it works well together with a SAFC and it advances timing. is it hard to get it installed an tuned? or can most ppl do it.
-
hey funkymonkey, u got any other mods besides extractors? how many kw does ur car make?
-
i think Jay's right, try the cheapest option first i use to have problems with gear change, crunching from 1st to 2nd. changed the oil, put in castrol vmx 80 and some nulon g70 which someone else recommended and it worked a treat. very smooth changes even in the mornings. wouldn't hurt giving that a go since it'll only set u back $30 or so.
