Oil Restrictors Are They On Factory N1 Engines
silman replied to kronic's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
thanks for clearing that up. I'll take the head off, and install a 1.5mm restrictor in one of the feeds in the block whilst the engine is out of the car. By the way, here's a picture of my turbo. It looks like it doesn't have the restrictor installed (does this seem to be the case from what you see?), but i'll use the one i bought pictured above at this fitting. . and the other side; -
Oil Restrictors Are They On Factory N1 Engines
silman replied to kronic's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Please take the time to read my post carefully and reply only if you have information relating to this question. There's a lot of talk about GTBB turbo's having restrictors inbuilt that's clear from the amount of threads on the board. My post clearly specifies though, that I have an N1 oil pump, and i have this external oil feed restrictor. Sydneykid or someone with first hand experience, can you please confirm that with all RB engines, is a restrictor on the block still required if a 1.5mm turbo oil feed restrictor for the turbo is in place? (1.5mm in my RB25 application). Does the location of the restrictor make a difference to oil starvation at the sump? Or does the restrictor HAVE to be installed in the block, leadng to the head ONLY? cheers. -
Oil Restrictors Are They On Factory N1 Engines
silman replied to kronic's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Just found this post when doing a search on a question that I'm looking for the answer to. It's essential to fit an oil feed restrictor to the turbo, but is the one i have purchased in the link below suitable for my GT30/40R? http://www.himni-racing.com/index.php?main...products_id=508 (in my setup, i'm using an N1 oil pump on an rb25det)... If this is installed, is it still essential to put a restrictor in one of the two oil feeds on the block, going to the head? -

Can Someone Confirm What Turbo This Is?
silman replied to silman's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
thanks, any chance you can confirm the last 4 numbers? I purchased the turbo from GCG, it's meant to be a GT3040R. From what i've seen on some sites the GT3040R is the same as a GT3076R. Is yours a .7AR Comp Cover? -
I've done a search on here and the garrett website but can't find this CHRA #. It's a Garrett Dual Ball Bearing turbo The number on the plate is; IK 0101J 700177-5018 Can anyone identify it? The best i can find on the garrett website is a GT3076R as seen on this page; http://www.turbobygarrett.com/turbobygarre...rison_sheet.htm Cheers.

Stainless Top Mount Exhaust Manfiold
silman replied to silman's topic in For Sale (Private Car Parts and Accessories)
Manifold no longer for sale sorry. -
I purchased this manifold in January when starting the collection of items for my RB25 into a 180sx project, however recently i have purchased an apexi cast manifold and so no longer have a need for this manifold. ... It has never been used, only dummy assembled. As you can see (and have probably read before), the manifold's bolt holes did not line up at all to the factory position. This manifold has had these holes drilled, ready for perfect fitment. Included also, is some brand spanking new bolts at the collector, which are actually Toyota Supra replacement items. Here's what the manifold looks like, with a GCG GT30/40R turbo attached (that's a .7AR T04E Compressor cover in case you are worried about fitment) and it's T3 style flange. It is designed to utilise a tial 35/38mm or turbonetics 38mm external wastegate setup (or you could flange your own) ... The manifold cost me $280 brand new a month ago. Keep in mind it includes brand new studs, and the holes will definitely allow for perfect fitment to an RB20 or RB25. For sale for $280 DELIVERED Australia wide. This item is located in Brisbane. If you're in Brissy, $270 pickup - Cheers.

It's blatantly obvious what i was referring to, and i'm open to hearing what isn't exactly accurate here.

another classic example of how this moderator is not helping the forum! =( Isn't it best not to comment if you don't know for sure what you're talking about?? talk about fundamentals. I too can confirm it fits directly no modifications required. What people suggest in terms of modifying your rb25 setup, is the restriction of oil to to the head, as people have commented on this forum, that not enough oil is left in the sump at the pickup. To get around this, you can install a front mount oil cooler kit to add to the amount of oil capacity. It is recommended that a larger aftermarket sump be fitted if you intend to be constantly revving (ie drifting) or track use. But if not, then it will be fine.

Yep, also fits RB20. I agree it wouldn't be as efficient, but i weighed that up against not having to worry about a cracking manifold. The dump pipe will be a very tight fit indeed. I buy everything from Greenline. Yes definitely wouldn't risk my setup on a cheapy hks copy.

to brutally honest, your first reply was not helpfull, and didn't answer any of the questions i asked and either has your second. I'd expect more from a moderator. thanks to the rest who replied, i'm going to look at selling the tial and purchasing an hks w'gate. As for the turbo, i rang gcg today to ask if they have any experience with using an apexi/ihi turbine housing on any of there gt range turbo's to which the answer was no. Will have a custom flange built up to retain the current turbine housing i have.

Are you really in the moderators group? what's so wrong about this manifold? keep in mind the flange sits back to keep the centre of gravity towards the middle of the car. The wastegate points straight down to avoid heat issues. What exactly is so bad about it?

I've just purchased a cast for my RB25DET in a 180SX setup. (not on the road yet) The manifold is designed for IHI/Apexi Turbo's and a Greddy Type R External style wastegate. I have a GCG Garrett GT30/40R (.63AR) Turbo, and a Tial 38/40 External Wastegate though, and need some assistance with adaptor flanges. Can anyone advise where i could buy such adaptors? Is it likely that i'll have to buy a 38mm tial adaptor, and a (??mm) Greddy Type R Adaptor and have them welded together to make it join up? Thanks.

Aftermarket Baffled Sump For Rb25det?
silman replied to Downforce's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
I think you'll find it's a matter of having oil at the pickup, not necessarily the volume of oil in the system. The higher volume of oil simply assists with total cooling, but doesn't solve the problem of the depth of the area where the pickup is. Since i plan to do some drifting with this setup, i'd like to here from anyone on here who is drifting a gts-t, or rb25 powered s13 in particular -
Aftermarket Baffled Sump For Rb25det?
silman replied to Downforce's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Does anyone have the high energy sump installed and can give some feedback with before and after oil temps? can anyone post some pictures of it installed? I'm building an RB25 powered 180sx. Have just purchased a new N1 GTR Oil Pump, and want to know if i will require a larger sump, or could i get away with just a greddy oil cooler kit? how much oil does a standard sump hold? -

silman replied to silman's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
are you referring to this thread? http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/in...howtopic=101083 if so that's not giving me the info. I need to know if 255 or wider will fit on an 8" rim. Apart from this thread - http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/in...howtopic=101561 one person's suggestion is not something confirmed. also note that entering 8"* resulted in no search results. thanks. -
for an 8" wide rim, how wider tyre can be fitted?

What Cast Manifold Options Are Available?
silman replied to silman's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
I'm sorry, but no steam pipe manifold is going to hold together like a cast iron manifold will. This is precisely why manifolds are cast from factory. I've also had experience with a cast iron turbonetics manifold on my other car. I had a look through an old apex product guide here, and have seen a cast manifold, but as it's all in Japanese, and it was a kit layout picture, i'm not able to see if it's a top mount. can anyone confirm? At the very least, if i have to go for a non cast manifold, it will be a Japanese one, not a local one. All you have to do is look through all of the history of threads on this site to see the amount of problems they cause. Been there, done that.
